Chapter 571: Psychological Attack

Jiang Jiangyu lowered his head and walked quickly out of the compound. He walked two stops and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that there was no one he knew at the bus stop not far away.

A bus wobbled to a stop, and she didn't bother to queue up and rushed on. It was rush hour, and the crowds were so tight that she felt irritated.

After taking two buses with great difficulty and spending another five cents, she finally returned home safely at around seven o'clock in the evening.

Under the cover of night, Jiang Jiangyu's face twisted and turned into a state of deep thought, constantly changing. No one knew what she was thinking about, or what she had decided.

Fortunately, I didn't meet many people on the road. Some gentlemen who were enjoying the cool air a little further away were also playing chess. The darkness concealed all ugliness, and no one paid any attention to the outsiders.

Pushing open the door to the yard, Jiang Jiangyu was surprised to find that no one was home except for the orange light in the living room, the chirping of cicadas and the croaking of frogs.

Aunt Lin heard the noise and came out of the old lady's room yawning.

Jiang Jiangyu saw her and asked, "Why aren't your family members here? Do you know where they went?"

"After dinner, the old leader took them out together. They didn't say where they were going. Have you eaten? Do you want me to cook something?"

How could Jiang Jiangyu have an appetite now? She shook her hand, "No need. You go and rest, I'll go and accompany the old lady."

The aunt yawned and nodded gratefully, saying, "I've cleaned up everything. The old lady is still awake. If she's still not sleepy by the time she gets to sleep, she'll blink at you three times with her right eye. You can feed her a pill. The bottle is on her bedside table. Don't give her too much."

Jiang Jiangyu waved his hand impatiently, told her to go and rest, and went into the old lady's bedroom.

Smelling the sour smell in the air, Jiang Jiangyu approached the old lady's bed and watched her open her eyes, glance at her, and then close them tightly again. The contempt in her eyes made her laugh out loud.

Old Mrs. Lin opened her eyes and looked at her.

Jiang Jiangyu was laughing when she suddenly covered her mouth and looked at the old lady. Their eyes met, and she suddenly felt a surge of sadness, her nose aching. She thought of the days when she had fawned over her and tried to please her, and tears streamed down her face. Now that she was down and didn't need to please her, she was still worse off than before.

Old Mrs. Lin looked at her in surprise. This second daughter-in-law was not only stupid but also heartless. She had never seen her cry so sadly. She tried to turn her head to look out the door, but found that it was closed and she could not see outside.

In desperation, Mrs. Lin blinked at her. Suddenly, she covered her mouth and cried. Did something happen to someone at home? Otherwise, why were there no family members outside?

Jiang Jiangyu wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and whispered, "Mom, I can't find anyone to talk to. What do you think we should do? If you hadn't had a stroke, you could teach me."

Dad and his family must have been using connections again tonight. My eldest brother secretly applied to move out of town, and it's already been approved. If they leave, what will happen to our Shengli brothers? No good family wants to marry them, and how can they be worthy of my son if they're so inferior..."

Old Mrs. Lin listened to her sobbing silently, paying attention to her expression, and found no signs of lying. Gradually, her eyes grew colder.

"...Mom, I nearly fainted when I heard what those two brothers said. When did my son actually get rejected? A few years ago, so many families wanted to marry us. Every year during the New Year and the first month of the lunar year, as soon as we came back, so many people would come to our house, dragging their daughters over to show you, eager to marry them to those two brothers."

When Mrs. Lin heard her grandson's words and understood her husband's intentions, she closed her eyes tightly.

Abandon? She had raised her son and grandson in the same way. Unexpectedly, her honest and upright husband listened to everything and would even resort to such tactics now.

For the sake of future generations, he abandoned his wife. Good, really good! The good man she had trained was indeed the one she had chosen at first sight. Under the subtle influence of her, they became the same kind.

Gu Ruyi didn't blame her husband. She had long known that there was only one man in the world, Zhou Jinyu, who was truly passionate and kind-hearted. All other men were just ordinary people.

"...Mom, if things are like this, will Dad make up his mind tonight? We've begged my eldest brother-in-law several times, but they won't even see us. Even my eldest sister won't acknowledge us. I never thought she would be so ungrateful. After all, you raised her. When her husband disappeared, it was us relatives who stayed with her. Otherwise, she would have died long ago..."

Even if Old Lady Lin closed her eyes, she couldn't shut out her daughter-in-law's nagging. Thinking of that idiot Lin Lishan, she gnashed her teeth in hatred. This heartless thing, just like her mother, couldn't pull her legs away from a man.

"...If Dad really did that, what would we do? You'd be all alone, with no one to interact with you. How pitiful that would be. He's so cruel. You've been with him your whole life, why didn't he go to his old leader and ask for mercy? Once he opens his mouth, who would dare to resist?"

Old Madam Lin sneered inwardly. If she could turn back time, there would still be hope. Who would care about a paralyzed old woman without her parents' home?

This was her fate. Gu Ruyi's fate. If she wanted a man who would live and die for her, she couldn't do it in this life, so she could only rely on the next.

"...Mom, that day absolutely cannot come. It would be better to die early. It would put an end to everything and even be buried in the Lin family tomb..."

Old Mrs. Lin opened her eyes and glanced at her. Seeing that she was crying without pretending, she closed her eyes again. She snorted inwardly. The Lin family tomb, she wanted it?

"Mom, I just went to the compound and heard that the Zhou family has made great achievements again. You said that their family is so prosperous, why are they still not satisfied, why are they still holding on to the past. Many people say that as long as my brother-in-law says he won't pursue the matter, then our family will be fine, and even you won't have to be dealt with.

How could they be so cruel? Your health is so poor, if they really keep you locked up, wouldn't that mean you'll die of old age in prison? Who are the people in there? How could you be with such low-class people?

Mom, many people outside look down on us now. Even my younger sister won’t come over. My brother-in-law lied to us and said his mother had a broken leg. How could these ungrateful people abandon you…”

Mrs. Lin opened her eyes and looked at her, blinking non-stop. Unfortunately, Jiang Jiangyu kept crying with her head down, not paying any attention to her expression.

Old Mrs. Lin didn't know whether her daughter-in-law did it intentionally or unintentionally, as every word she said hit the spot that hurt her the most.

Yes, no one wants her anymore! The eldest son secretly applied for transfer to another place, the youngest son is far away, and the youngest daughter is hiding in her husband's house. The person next to her is about to abandon her.

She, Gu Ruyi, never expected that she would end up like this.

After a long time, the voices of the old man and his friends came from outside. Jiang Jiangyu quickly wiped away her tears, her eyes red and swollen, and she leaned over to look at the old lady, "Mom, Dad and the others are back. Should I let them come over?"

Old Mrs. Lin shook her head vigorously from side to side.

"Okay, I won't call them over. I'll let your eldest grandson come over to keep him company, okay? If you agree, just blink your left eye."

Old Mrs. Lin blinked her right eye three times and looked at the medicine bottle on the bedside table.

Jiang Jiangyu nodded in understanding, poured out a pill, helped her swallow it, watched her close her eyes, and was about to close the bottle when suddenly her youngest son's voice came from outside.

"Mom, is my grandma asleep?"

Jiang Jiangyu quickly put down the medicine bottle, ran over and opened the door, "Be quiet, your grandma just took the medicine, don't disturb her, let her sleep well."

Lin Dingli pushed open the door, walked in, and said softly, "My dad is drunk, you go take care of him. I'll just take a look at my grandma and then leave."

Old Mrs. Lin listened to the footsteps of her little grandson stop in front of her bed. She waited for a while, then listened to him sigh deeply and walk away with heavy steps.

The moment the door was closed, she opened her eyes, stared at the door with complicated expression for a while, and then looked blankly at the nearby medicine bottle.
