Songjiatun has been quite turbulent lately.
People would often run onto the village road and shout insults.
Some eggs that had just been laid in the henhouse were stolen, some meat that was hanging in the kitchen was stolen, and some freshly ground flour was stolen...
The captain reminded everyone over the loudspeaker to take precautions and keep their valuables safe.
People were filled with anxiety, and the entire Lunar New Year was not celebrated well.
Half a month passed in the blink of an eye, and Song Darong left with Zhou Zan before the Lantern Festival.
Fang Jie got up early in the morning and boiled 10 eggs for them to take on the road. She also packed a bag of walnuts and a bag of chestnuts for Zhou Zan.
Zhou Zan held onto Song Fanxing's arm, reluctant to leave.
Song Fanxing patted his shoulder and coaxed him softly, "Be good, go back and see your grandparents first. I'll come to the capital to see you once I've saved enough money for the trip."
Zhou Zan: "Really?"
"Of course it's true. Go ahead, but don't join the army later."
She was afraid this little cannon fodder would die quickly. After spending half a month with the child, she quite liked him, so she kindly gave him a heads-up.
Zhou Zan nodded blankly, then followed Song Darong away.
March arrived quickly, and the village organized the turning of the soil in preparation for spring planting.
Winters in Northeast China are long, so to prevent seeds from freezing to death when planted, spring planting doesn't begin until April or May.
That day, Song Guoqiang notified the villagers that they could go to the brigade to adopt piglets.
This time, Fang Jie wanted to adopt two animals and told her daughter about this idea, since she needed her daughter's support; last year's big fat pig was entirely raised by her daughter.
Song Fanxing said directly, "Mom, let's not raise two, let's raise four."
"Four heads?"
Fang Jie never even considered it.
"Xingxing, our pigsty is too small; we can't keep four pigs."
She was willing but unable to help.
Song Fanxing: "Mom, there's still a month until spring planting. Let's find someone to expand the pigsty. It'll be done in a few days."
“Our chicken coop already takes up so much space. If we expand the pigsty, we won’t have a yard left.”
"If we don't have a yard, so be it. Making money is the most important thing. At the end of the year, we can sell a pig and make a lot of money."
Fang Jie was tempted.
She loves making money the most.
It feels great to count money.
"Okay, let's adopt four pigs and then expand the pigsty while we have this time."
Fang Jie was quickly persuaded.
"Um."
Song Fanxing smiled and supported her.
When Fang Jie said she wanted to adopt four piglets, Song Guoqiang and the villagers were shocked.
"Fang Jie, are you crazy?"
"Exactly! How can you afford to raise four pigs? You're the only one working; how can you possibly have the energy to raise four pigs?"
Don't work yourself to death; it's not worth it!
"Raising pigs requires a lot of grain. Do you have any grain at home?"
Song Guoqiang also advised, "Fang Jie, don't you want to think about it again? Raising four pigs is no joke."
Their family is considered well-off in the village, but they only managed to raise two animals last year, and they plan to raise two more this year.
Fang Jie's family didn't have much grain, and their pigsty was small, making it difficult to raise four pigs.
Fang Jie insisted, "Captain, don't worry, this is a decision I made after careful consideration. My family doesn't have much grain, but my children are hardworking. They gather pig feed after school and we'll definitely be able to raise four pigs. I plan to find someone to expand our pigsty in a few days so that it can fit four pigs."
Everyone thought Fang Jie had gone mad.
Song Guoqiang didn't have much to say.
"Okay, I'll have someone send the piglets to you in a bit."
A woman with three children at home, help her out whenever you can.
"Thank you, Captain!"
Fang Jie received four pigs. When the other villagers saw this, they thought that if Fang Jie, with her family's wealth, could receive four pigs, they should be able to afford to raise two as well.
So, every household adopted two pigs, and even Huang Juan adopted two, planning to have Song Dani and Song Erni gather pig feed for them, since the two girls didn't need to go to school anyway.
Li Zhen stubbornly adopted two pigs, but Song Guoqiang initially disagreed. He knew Song Dalong's family situation; they hadn't received any grain last year, barely able to feed themselves, let alone raise pigs.
But Li Zhen lay on the ground throwing a tantrum, and Song Guoqiang had no choice but to agree. Anyway, if she couldn't be properly cared for, the responsibility would fall on their family, so he didn't care.
Thus, Songjiatun shocked the surrounding villages, because the authorities sent them two large truckloads of piglets.
Song Guoqiang gained a lot of face among the team leaders.
"Song Guoqiang, your village is amazing!"
"That's right, the people in your village are so enthusiastic. Unlike our village, we can't persuade anyone to adopt another one no matter how much we try. It's infuriating."
"Your village will be praised at the year-end meeting."
Song Guoqiang chuckled twice but didn't say anything.
He wasn't happy at all. He didn't know what was wrong with everyone in the village this year, that everyone was so energetic. Such a commotion at the start of the year couldn't be a good thing.
If they raise them well, that's fine; if they don't, Songjiatun will become a laughing stock for the surrounding villages.
The team quickly delivered the four piglets to Fang Jie.
Four little piglets huddled together in a pigpen, their pink and tender bodies frolicking about, bringing Fang Jie a moment of joy.
The two young men who were delivering piglets to Fang Jie were instead drawn to the 20 or so chickens in the yard.
They were all from the same village, yet they had no idea that Fang Jie's family raised so many chickens.
However, Fang Jie doesn't interact with the people in the village often, and basically no one visits her home, so it's normal that they don't know she raises chickens.
One of the young men asked, "Sister-in-law, when did you start raising so many chickens?"
Fang Jie: "I raised it before the Lunar New Year."
As she spoke, Fang Jie went inside, poured two bowls of water, and handed them to the two young men.
