Chapter 41 Not His Biological Child

The brother and sister carried the bowls and chopsticks to the table, and Song Yaohui helped bring out the dishes.

The family sat down to eat.

Song Fanxing ate half a steamed bun and drank a small bowl of cucumber and egg soup before she was full.

Fang Jie took the remaining half of the steamed bun and started eating it.

Song Fanxing felt a warm feeling in her heart.

Her mother didn't mind at all, and this feeling of intimacy was wonderful.

After the meal, Fang Jie instructed Fang Min to wash the dishes, while she prepared to go up the mountain to collect firewood.

Winter is approaching, and winters in Northeast China are extremely cold. She needs to hurry and stock up on firewood before the heavy snowfall. Some families in the village with more able-bodied men have already stocked up on a lot of firewood, but she lives alone and has to work very hard to stock up on enough for the winter.

We need to prepare winter clothes for the children, as they will be wearing them soon.

Song Fanxing was going to go up the mountain with Fang Jie. She was eager to go and explore the mountains to enrich the species in her spiritual spring space.

However, Fang Jie assigned her a task: to deliver food to her milk and feed her.

Song Fanxing looked unhappy with a long face.

Fang Jie was amused to see her daughter with this expression for the first time.

I thought she disliked the smell of her breast milk.

She said, "Mom just wiped your grandma's body, so you can feed her. We can do the rest when Mom comes back. By the way, you can't lift your grandma up, so go ask your second uncle for help."

Little did she know that her daughter had longed to go to the mountains for a long time, and now that she finally had the chance, it was gone.

Seeing that her daughter was really unhappy, Fang Jie coaxed her, "Mommy will take you tomorrow. Your brothers don't have school tomorrow, so they can bring your grandma your food. You can come up the mountain with Mommy, okay?"

Song Fanxing finally stopped crying and started smiling.

After Fang Jie carried her basket out the door and her brothers went to school, she carried a bowl to the Song family's house.

Fang Jie was worried that she wouldn't be able to carry it, so she served her a bowl of stewed potatoes and green beans, topped with a few slices of cucumber and egg, and placed a pumpkin bun on top of that.

Song Fanxing felt that her mother's worries were unnecessary. She was very strong and could lift a basin without any problem. If she were tall enough, she could even carry water.

When they arrived at the Song family's house, Song Dalong's family was having dinner inside, while Song Dapeng's family was quiet and it was unclear whether anyone was home.

Song Fanxing walked straight towards her grandmother's house.

When Grandma Song saw her carrying a bowl, she guessed that food had arrived. Her crooked lips twitched, and she tried to look at Song Fanxing.

Song Fanxing stood by the kang (a heated brick bed), her small stature only a head taller than the kang itself.

She placed the bowl on the head of the kang (a heated brick bed) and climbed onto it.

To Grandma Song's astonishment, a small hand grabbed her shoulders and lifted her up, making Grandma Song sit up. Then a pillow was placed behind her back.

Then I picked up the bowl again, put a piece of food in my chopsticks, and fed it to her.

Old Mrs. Song stared at her, forgetting to open her mouth.

Song Fanxing said calmly, "Open your mouth."

She obediently opened her mouth.

While feeding her, Song Fanxing said, "I'm not as patient or kind-hearted as my mother. You'd better behave yourself, don't cause trouble, and cooperate obediently."

Old Mrs. Song glared at her angrily. Was this brat threatening her? What an unfilial brat!

Song Fanxing seemed to guess what she was thinking and gave a cold laugh.

“My filial piety is only for my parents, you don’t deserve it! You’ve bullied my father since we were little, and now that you’re married, you’ve bullied our whole family. Is it just because my father isn’t your biological son? But does it really matter whether he’s your biological son or not? In my father’s heart, he has always treated you as his own mother, but what about you? You’ve never treated him as your son. Now that you’ve become like this, how have your own sons and daughters treated you? How have we treated you? If you have any conscience at all, learn to be grateful and treat my mother better.”

Old Mrs. Song looked at her in horror.

How does this brat know her father isn't her biological son?

No one knew about this except her and the deceased old man; not even the villagers knew.

She became pregnant not long after she and the old man got married, and they were very happy.

The old man prepared a rocking horse for their first child. She, in turn, made little clothes and shoes for the child.

Everything was ready, and they were preparing to welcome their child, but when it came time to give birth, she lost her baby.

That evening, the old man found a child at their doorstep; it was his eldest son, Song Darong.

The old man felt that their child was gone, and then this child just happened to appear at the door. It was fate. Despite her objections, he insisted on adopting the child. Everything they had prepared for the child ended up benefiting this foundling.

The old man claimed to the public that the child he found was their newborn child, and warned her not to tell anyone.

At first, she didn't dislike Song Darong much, until their three children were born one after another. She cared more about her own children and grew to dislike Song Darong more and more. She felt angry whenever she saw him. They had their own children, so why should they raise other people's children?

When Song Darong was young, she secretly gave him away and even tried to sell him, but the old man found out and brought him back, and beat her severely.

She dared not entertain such thoughts again, and began to mistreat him even more severely. She didn't give him food, didn't give him clothes or shoes in winter, and forced him to work in the fields. Once, he almost froze to death outside. When the old man carried him back, barely alive, she felt so sorry for him; she wished he had frozen to death.

Later, when Song Darong turned 18, the village conscripted soldiers.

In order to kick Song Darong out of the house and reduce the number of mouths to feed, she secretly signed Song Darong up for the exam.

In this way, Song Darong's allowance can also supplement his family's income, killing two birds with one stone.

When the old man found out, he got angry but eventually gave in.

Looking back now, the old man probably thought that Song Darong would be better off joining the army than staying at home, so he agreed.

I didn't expect Song Darong to be so capable; his allowance has been steadily increasing over the years. I don't know what rank he holds in the military; I've asked him several times, but he hasn't said.

The old man thought Song Darong was the pride of the family, so he asked someone to find him a wife, Fang Jie.

She had no idea how her annoying granddaughter knew about this, and she looked at her like she was a ghost.

Song Fanxing looked at her with a deep gaze and said, "I know a lot of things, including what you've done to my father and our family over the years. You've become like this now, which is probably retribution."

Old Mrs. Song's crooked mouth trembled twice as she looked at her in fear.

Song Fanxing twitched her lips, stopped talking, and continued to feed her until she finished the vegetables and pumpkin buns. Then she slid off the earthen bed with the bowl in her hand and left the Song family.

Song Yaohui and Song Yaohua came out of the classroom with their schoolbags on their backs. Song Yaohua suddenly said, "Brother, look, Song Dani and Song Erni."
