Song Fanxing then ran up behind Fang Jie with her small legs.
"Mom, give me the kettle."
She noticed while they were eating that Fang Jie's water bottle was empty.
Fang Jie turned around and saw the small figure. She exclaimed, "Why did you run over here? It's dusty here. Come back with your brother."
At this moment, Song Yaohui and Song Yaohua caught up, panting.
Song Yaohua: "Little sister, why are you running so fast?"
The two brothers couldn't understand how their 3-year-old sister had managed to leave them behind. When they saw her running towards them, they started chasing after her, but they couldn't catch up.
Song Fanxing didn't have time to pay attention to him and reached out for Fang Jie's water bottle.
Fang Jie couldn't refuse her, so she had no choice but to take the water bottle off her waist and give it to her.
Song Fanxing took the kettle and turned around.
The three of them had no idea what she was going to do.
After a while, she turned around and handed the kettle to Fang Jie.
Fang Jie picked up the water bottle; it was heavy, and she knew it was full of water without even opening it.
She knew what was going on, but remained outwardly calm, though she was deeply moved inside.
Her daughter fills her water bottle with water every evening and tells her to take it with her when she goes out in the morning, so she can drink some water whenever she gets tired or thirsty.
You have to admit, she was able to keep going through all that high-intensity work thanks to this kettle of water; otherwise, she would have collapsed long ago.
Looking around, everyone else had collapsed from exhaustion several times. Everyone envied her, saying that her body was incredibly resilient.
Only she knew it was her daughter's doing, giving her a pot of water every day to replenish her energy.
She woke up this morning to find that her period had started. She felt much more tired than usual while working today. With no other option, she kept drinking water and finished all the water by noon.
Song Yaohui and Song Yaohua had no idea what their sister was doing, so Song Yaohui picked up Song Fanxing in his arms.
"Mom, we're taking my little sister home."
Fang Jie waved her hand, "Go back quickly."
When they returned, they found that Old Lady Song was still lying in their private plot of land, without having moved an inch.
When Old Lady Song saw them, she started wailing again.
Song Fanxing wondered if her grandmother had been frightened into illness.
She thought she would be able to get up and walk on her own after a while, but who knew it was so serious.
She told her two older brothers about her thoughts.
Song Yaohui immediately ran to Old Lady Song, and Song Fanxing frowned and followed him.
Song Yaohui picked up Old Lady Song and ran towards the Song family home.
The boy was strong and powerful, almost as tall as an adult.
Song Yaohua and Song Fanxing followed behind.
On the way, Song Fanxing picked up a few small stones by the roadside and held them in her hand.
Upon entering the Song family courtyard, Song Yaohui carried Old Lady Song back to her room.
The Song family was all in their own house when they heard the commotion and rushed out, just in time to see Song Yaohui carrying Old Lady Song into the house.
He immediately shouted, "You little brat, what did you do to your grandma?"
Song Fanxing sighed, realizing things were getting complicated.
Song Dalong shoved Song Yaohua and Song Fanxing aside and squeezed into the room. Song Fanxing was fine, but Song Yaohua was pushed to the ground.
Song Fanxing went over and helped Song Yaohua up.
"Second brother, are you alright?"
Song Yaohua shook his head blankly; he was somewhat frightened by how his mother had become like this.
Li Zhen, Song Haitao, and Song Xiaomei also followed them into the house.
However, they did not step forward, nor did they show any signs of tension or concern; they seemed indifferent.
Song Dani and Song Erni also ran to the door and looked inside.
Song Dalong rushed to his mother, "Mom, what happened to you? Who did this to you?"
Old Mrs. Song groaned again, unable to speak.
Only then did Song Fanxing notice that Old Lady Song's mouth was crooked.
Judging from her appearance, Song Fanxing guessed that she had suffered a stroke.
Song Fanxing said, "Second Uncle, hurry up and find an oxcart to take the milk to the county hospital. The milk seems to be very sick, and the local doctor in the village probably can't treat her."
Before Song Dalong could speak, Li Zhen jumped in and said, "We haven't even figured things out yet, why send her to a hospital? What if your grandma dies on the way or in the hospital? Then things will get complicated. You silly girl, I didn't expect you to be so thoughtful at such a young age."
Lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), Old Lady Song was so angry that her face turned ashen. She wanted to curse but couldn't bring herself to say it. A breath caught in her chest, and she almost suffocated.
After hearing his wife's words, Song Dalong glared fiercely at Song Yaohui.
"Did you beat your grandma like this? Or did you three siblings do it together? Tell me the truth."
Song Yaohui stood up straight and said, "It wasn't us, it was Grandma who went to my family's private plot to pick vegetables, and then she collapsed on the ground."
Song Fanxing added, "Grandma was so frightened by that thunderclap that she fell to the ground."
Li Zhen put her hands on her hips and said to Song Dalong, "See? It was those three who did it, it was definitely them. Mom only picked some vegetables from their garden, is it really necessary to do this to her? And they blamed it on being scared by thunder, why don't you say she was struck by lightning?"
Song Fanxing: "With her old bones, she would have been struck by lightning long ago."
"See, see, Song Dalong, you see? This girl is really vicious. She cursed our mother to die."
Enraged, Song Dalong rushed over to hit Song Fanxing, but Song Yaohua immediately stepped in front of his sister.
Before Song Dalong could even get close, he felt a sharp pain in his knees and knelt down.
He knelt right in front of Song Yaohua and Song Fanxing.
Song Fanxing: "Second Uncle, what are you doing? Kneeling down like this is making us feel terrible."
Song Dalong was furious. "You brat, did you do this?"
Song Yaohua: "You fell down on your own, what does it have to do with my sister? How shameless of you to try to blame it on my sister!"
Song Dalong picked up a small stone from beside his leg, and was quite certain that Song Fanxing was behind it. If he wasn't so sure about the first two times, he was certain this time.
This girl doesn't talk like a 3-year-old at all, and her eyes are frightening.
Li Zhen helped Song Dalong up and said, "Dalong, don't waste your breath on them. Let's call the brigade leader and send these three vicious bastards to the commune. They've done this to our mother; I don't believe the brigade leader won't do anything about it."
Song Dalong immediately ordered, "Haitao, go and call the brigade leader. Xiaomei, ask someone to find an oxcart so we can take your grandma to the hospital."
He also knew that the folk remedy couldn't cure Old Lady Song's illness.
Old Mrs. Song was finally relieved. Her son was the best. That damned Li Zhen only knew how to talk nonsense and didn't care about her life or death. She would kick her out as soon as she recovered.
Li Zhen stopped Song Xiaomei from running away.
Turning to Song Dalong, she said, "It's not too late to go look for her when the brigade leader arrives. I think we should have Xiaomei go and call Fang Jie first. She has to pay for Mom's hospital bill; it was her child who caused this trouble."
Song Xiaomei glanced at Song Dalong for a while, then at Li Zhen.
Finally, Song Dalong said, "Listen to your mother."
Li Zhen smiled smugly.
Song Xiaomei ran towards the field.
Old Mrs. Song was so angry that she fainted.
