Fang Jie: "Everyone, please make way."
The crowd made way for Fang Jie as she carried the firewood into the courtyard.
Song Yaohua immediately stepped forward and explained the whole story.
Fang Jie put down her basket while listening to her youngest son talk.
Fang Min saw Fang Jie looking dazed for a moment, unsure whether to continue performing while sitting on the ground or get up.
She was afraid that Fang Jie would kick her and Ye Fangxuan out.
Fang Jie listened to her son's description.
He bent down and scooped up his daughter.
"Star, don't be sad, Mom will sew it for you in a bit."
Song Fanxing nodded, feeling both aggrieved and touched.
The feeling of being pampered made her unconsciously dependent, and even at the age of 30, she couldn't avoid it. Moreover, she had never tasted the flavor of family affection in her previous life, so she longed for it even more.
Fang Min decided to strike first.
She said, "Sister, you really can't spoil the kids. They went too far. It's just a dress that was ruined. Fangxuan didn't do it on purpose, but they insisted that we apologize. Your son even dragged us out. How can they treat their elders like that! It's all your fault for spoiling them."
Fang Jie put her daughter down and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
He looked at her coldly.
"Isn't it natural to apologize when you do something wrong? Adults and children are the same. You don't set a good example and you want to use your status as an elder to shirk responsibility. How can you possibly raise a daughter well if you act like this!"
Fang Min knew that her older sister had changed; she found fault with everything about her.
With so many people watching, expecting her to apologize? Dream on!
She slapped her hands on the ground, preparing to wail.
Fang Jie stopped her, "If you want to howl, go howl outside!"
"Sister, how could you be so cruel!"
Fang Jie laughed angrily, "Me, heartless? Your parents died early, and I raised you single-handedly. I always made sure you had the best food and clothes, and I never made you do any heavy work. I'm only four years older than you."
Fang Jie's words made the villagers feel sorry for her.
"Being a sister isn't easy..."
Fang Jie continued, "You brought Fangxuan to my house and stayed for months. I didn't make you do any work or cook a single meal. My house only has one kang (heated brick bed), and there are three children. I let you sleep on the kang, and Yaohui slept on the floor. These days, no one has much food, so we can't keep you here any longer."
“Back then, when my two children and I had just separated from our family, we had nowhere to live. I wanted to leave Yaohui and Yaohua at your house for a while, but you disagreed, which made me very upset. However, considering that we are sisters, I have already done more than enough by taking you and your daughters in for so long.”
The villagers suddenly realized what was happening and started pointing and whispering about Fang Min.
"That's right. Even if they're relatives, they'll only stay for a month at most. Who stays for long and never leaves?"
“When Da Rong’s wife’s sister came, I remember she was dark-skinned and thin, and so was her child. Look at them now, the mother and daughter are both as fat as balls.”
"Oh dear, now that you mention it, I just remembered. Of course, she must have eaten so much of her sister's food to get this fat."
"You gain weight not only from eating too much, but also from being lazy."
"When you stay at someone else's house, if you have any sense of propriety, you won't make the host sleep on the floor for months on end."
“That’s outrageous. We can’t even feed our own family. I’m not willing to support two outsiders. Not even my own brothers and sisters.”
"They gave away grain, but in the end, they didn't receive a single kind word."
"Didn't you hear? Back then, Da Rong's wife begged her to take in their two children, but she refused. How dare she stay at her sister's house now? If it were me, I wouldn't have the nerve to do that."
"And then there's the tantrum and throwing a tantrum, it's so annoying! Oh my god, who can stand that?"
"That's right, Da Rong's wife, hurry up and let your sister and niece leave. We're all worried about you."
Song Fanxing: ……
The eyes of the masses are still discerning.
Song Yaohui went into the room, stuffed Fang Min and Ye Fangxuan's belongings into a cloth bag, and threw it in front of Fang Min.
Fang Min immediately grabbed Fang Jie's leg in terror, "Sister, I was wrong, I won't cause trouble anymore, please don't send me away!"
Ye Fangxuan ran over and hugged Fang Jie's other leg, "Auntie, I apologize to my cousin, please don't send us away... Waaah..."
Fang Jie was utterly disappointed in her younger sister and knew only to use this trick to make her give in.
This time, however, she wouldn't be soft-hearted. Her constant compromise and soft-heartedness wouldn't make Fang Min realize her mistakes, nor would it make her stand up and take responsibility.
She can't support them for the rest of their lives.
Fang Jie said cruelly, "You can go now. I'll have the brigade's oxcart take you to the county town."
An older woman outside the door said, "I'll go to the brigade and call an oxcart for you."
After saying that, the woman ran off in a flurry.
Fang Min had a snot running down her nose and was too busy to wipe it away. She looked at Fang Jie in disbelief.
"Sis, are you serious?"
"Well, my family can no longer take you in. Fangxuan is still a child of the Ye family. If you go back and say some nice things, they will let you go back."
They were still sisters, and Fang Jie advised her: "When you go back, be more diligent, find a job, and support yourself."
Ye Fangxuan was already crying her eyes out. If she had known that secretly wearing her cousin's dress would get them kicked out, she would never have done it, even if she were beaten to death.
Song Fanxing knew that her mother didn't send Fang Min and Ye Fangxuan away entirely because of what happened today; she must have been planning this for a long time.
Fang Min and Ye Fangxuan clung to Fang Jie's legs, refusing to let go.
Fang Jie shouted, "Yaohui, Yaohua, drag your aunt out of here!"
Song Yaohui and Song Yaohua had been waiting for their mother to say this. They stepped forward, each grabbing an arm, and dragged Fang Min out of the yard.
Soon, the brigade's oxcart arrived. Several villagers forcibly pulled Fang Min onto the cart, Fang Jie carried Ye Fangxuan onto the cart, and Song Fanxing handed their large cloth bags to Fang Jie, who took them and threw them onto the cart.
