He subconsciously stretched his neck and peered behind Xu Kuo, trying to find his younger brother Xu Jianguo, but only saw the empty night and the shadows of trees swaying in the wind.
"Stop looking," Xu Kuo's voice was like ice, devoid of any warmth, clearly reaching Xu Jianjun's ears. "Shi Jixing and Xu Jianguo have already gone to the security team for 'tea'."
"Drinking tea"?
Xu Jianjun was taken aback at first, then a knowing sneer appeared on his face, as if he had seen through some huge secret.
His initial unease was instantly replaced by smug satisfaction. So that's how it is! It must be that Xu Kuo has been arrested!
Secretary Shi and his good brother are ruthless enough to have him taken directly to the security team! Now, is this... bringing Xu Kuo here to show off in front of me? Or is this kid still not giving up, trying one last time to beg his "second brother" to intercede for him?
Thinking of this, Xu Jianjun straightened his back, raised his chin high, and looked Xu Kuo up and down, his eyes filled with disdain and schadenfreude: "Oh—? Went to the security team? Humph! I knew it!" He deliberately dragged out his words, full of sarcasm, "What? Xu Kuo, you've finally met your match? Is it because Secretary Shi and your good brother won't let you off the hook, that you've come to beg me?"
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became, and his smile grew increasingly arrogant: "Let me tell you, it's too late! When you hid all the good stuff back then, didn't you ever think about this day? Now you want my help? No way! Even if you kneel down and kowtow to me three times right now, I won't say a single good word for you, you ungrateful traitor! You piece of trash!"
Xu Jianjun, spitting as he spoke, felt he had regained his composure, as if he could already see Xu Kuo kneeling and begging for mercy.
However, Xu Kuo simply watched his performance quietly, his eyes fixed on him as if he were watching a clown. Only after Xu Jianjun had finished his tirade did he seem to find it the funniest joke, a deep sneer playing on his lips as he shook his head.
"Please? Xu Jianjun, is your brain greased with lard? You're hopelessly stupid!"
"Who...who are you calling stupid?!" Xu Jianjun was stung by Xu Kuo's look at him like he was an idiot. He instantly turned red with anger and pointed at Xu Kuo's nose, cursing loudly.
"You're about to die and you're still being stubborn! You little bastard! I bet you won't shed a tear until you see the coffin!"
He abruptly turned to the two security guards who had remained silent, and, displaying the same domineering manner he had at home, commanded imperiously, "What are you all standing there for? Didn't you hear me? Arrest this guy right now! Take him away! Take him away! Send him to the security team so Secretary Shi can interrogate him properly!"
He waited to see the guards pin Xu Kuo to the ground and to hear Xu Kuo cry out for mercy.
However, the two guards exchanged a glance and instead of moving Xu Kuo at all, they suddenly grabbed Xu Jianjun's arms from the left and right with lightning speed, like two red-hot iron pincers!
"Huh? Hey! What are you doing?!" This sudden turn of events completely stunned Xu Jianjun. His mind went blank, and he struggled frantically, shouting, "You've arrested the wrong person! You've arrested the wrong person! It's him! It's Xu Kuo! Are you deaf?!"
His wife was also terrified. Recovering from her shock, she let out a piercing scream: "That's right! Why are you arresting our husband? Are you blind? Arrest that jinx! It's him! He's the one who committed the crime!"
"Wrong person arrested?" One of the security guards glared, his eyes wide with contempt and disgust. "I don't think you've been wrongly arrested! It's you! Xu Jianjun!"
Another security guard chimed in, his voice icy: "You colluded with Xu Jianguo, conspired to frame him, and even tried to poison the vegetables that the people depend on for survival! You social parasites who have lost all conscience and harmed the people, not one of you will escape!"
What? !
Poisoning?! False accusation?!
These words struck Xu Jianjun like a bolt from the blue!
He instantly realized what was happening, and his face turned deathly pale! These people... these people weren't summoned by Shi Jixing, nor were they found by Xu Jianguo!
They were brought by Xu Kuo to arrest him! Shi Jixing and Xu Jianguo... they weren't there to arrest Xu Kuo, but were sent there by Xu Kuo himself!
An overwhelming fear, like an icy tide, instantly engulfed his heart, leaving him feeling cold all over and his limbs weak.
"No...it wasn't me...I didn't...it was Xu Jianguo...it was all Xu Jianguo who did it! It has nothing to do with me!" Xu Jianjun stammered, his voice trembling uncontrollably, completely devoid of any of his previous arrogance.
"Xu Kuo! Please have mercy! Let your second brother go!" His wife finally realized that things were going badly. Without thinking of anything else, she knelt down on the cold ground with a "thud," scrambled over, and tried to hug Xu Kuo's legs, wailing and crying her heart out.
"He was just confused for a moment! He was fooled by that beast Xu Jianguo! Please forgive him this time, we're all family! We'll never dare to do it again! We really won't dare!"
Xu Kuo took a step back, coldly avoiding her outstretched hand. His face remained expressionless, as if the weeping couple before him were complete strangers.
"Let him go?" Xu Kuo's gaze swept over Xu Jianjun, who was slumped on the ground, trembling like a leaf, his voice filled with undisguised sarcasm.
"Do you even believe what you're saying? When he conspired with Xu Jianguo to plot these schemes, did he ever think of letting me go? I gave him chances, more than once. From letting Xu Jianguo steal money from home, to later coveting my vegetables, to this conspiracy to frame me, even involving poisoning... People are never satisfied, and he led himself step by step to his doom."
Upon hearing this, Xu Jianjun's last shred of hope vanished completely.
He knew that Xu Kuo would really not let him go! A strong fear gripped him, causing his legs to buckle and he collapsed to the ground with a thud, crying out in pain.
Xu Kuo didn't even bother to lift his eyelids, ignoring his cries and pleas as if they were just noisy flies buzzing around. He turned and nodded to the two guards.
"Take him away," one of the security guards ordered in a deep voice.
Without further hesitation, the two men each took one side of Xu Jianjun, who was limp as a rag doll and still crying and begging for mercy, and dragged him out the door like a dead dog.
Xu Kuo glanced at it indifferently, turned around, and walked towards his large warehouse without looking back.
Having resolved the final problem of Xu Jianjun, Xu Kuo's mood remained largely unchanged. He had long since lost all remaining affection for this self-inflicted "relative."
He returned to his large warehouse, which was still piled high with all sorts of "junk" he had acquired. He walked to an inconspicuous corner with practiced ease and carefully took out two items wrapped tightly in coarse cloth from under a pile of seemingly useless old wooden crates.
