Chapter 47 Translation of the English Manuscript

Captain Wang smiled憨厚ly, scratched his head and said, "Hey, this is my son Wang Wenchang's. He works at the Xu Daily and has accumulated a lot of used manuscript paper. I thought it would be a waste to throw it away, so I used it to draw sketches."

At this moment, a gentle breeze was blowing, causing the dust on the ground to rise slightly, and the smell of the team members working still lingered by the fishpond.

Xu Kuo reached out and took the manuscript paper. He glanced at it casually, and the dense English text on it seemed as familiar to him as an old friend.

He casually picked up the dusty pencil that Captain Wang had placed aside and started writing on another blank sheet of paper.

"Swish, swish, swish"

Upon closer inspection, the English manuscript actually describes an unprecedented business model for farmers' markets.

From booth layout planning and how to cleverly utilize space to improve efficiency, to hygiene management details and how to ensure a clean and odor-free environment, to customer attraction strategies and how to attract customers with special events and high-quality service...

Each set of materials is detailed and full of practical, useful information.

Isn't this exactly the operating model of the standardized farmers' markets of later generations?

Xu Kuo's heart skipped a beat. If he could get this model implemented now...

His heart pounded instantly, as if a rapid drum was beating in his chest.

With his keen business intuition, he seemed to sense a huge business opportunity permeating the air.

A picture vaguely appeared in his mind: soon a piece of land in the county town would be approved, specifically for building this new type of vegetable market.

As long as you can get ahead of the curve and seize the opportunity to successfully secure several prime locations for your stall, you'll have all the channels open up for selling fish or vegetables!

This is so much faster than making money solely from your own fishpond!

These thoughts raced through Xu Kuo's mind. He could no longer contain his excitement. He slammed the manuscript onto the table and sprinted home, leaving a trail of dust in his wake.

No sooner had Xu Kuo left than Captain Wang shouted at the top of his lungs, "Time to wrap up!"

He led his team to the end of a day's work.

Today, the fishpond expansion project has come to a temporary end. Looking at the fishpond that is beginning to take shape, Captain Wang felt extremely relieved. The heavy weight that had been pressing on his heart for many days was finally lifted.

He casually picked up the English manuscript and Xu Kuo's newly written translation from the table, carefully stuffed them into the pocket of his slightly faded work uniform, humming an off-key tune as he happily walked home.

As soon as he stepped into the house, his son, Wang Wenchang, rushed up to him like a whirlwind, his face full of anxiety, and asked incessantly, "Dad, where are those English manuscripts you brought back today? Please don't lose them!"

The dim light inside the room illuminated Wang Wenchang's tense face.

"No, no, they're all here!"

Captain Wang quickly reached into his pocket, pulled out a piece of paper, and handed it to Wang Wenchang.

Wang Wenchang's tense nerves instantly relaxed, and he breathed a long sigh of relief, saying, "Thank goodness you didn't scribble on them, or you would have caused a huge disaster!"

Wang Wenchang held the manuscript paper in both hands and carefully checked it word by word.

After confirming that the manuscript was intact, with not a single punctuation mark missing, he finally felt completely relieved and couldn't help but complain, "Dad, you scared me to death! This manuscript is no ordinary thing; it was specially requested by Shi Jixing, the temporary assistant to the county party secretary, to help me translate! I've been staying up all night these past few days, racking my brains, and I've lost a lot of hair, but I still can't figure it out. I'm so worried!"

"Is this thing really that difficult?"

Captain Wang scratched his head, looking puzzled. "It doesn't look like a big deal to me. It's just a bunch of foreign words!"

"Dad, you do manual labor every day, how could you possibly understand these things!"

Wang Wenchang rolled his eyes helplessly. "This English translation isn't something just anyone can do; it requires real skill and knowledge!"

Upon hearing this, Captain Wang immediately lost face and raised his voice, saying, "Hey, you little brat, you think you're so great about your old man? Let me tell you, someone in that village outside the county town actually translated this manuscript today!"

"Pshaw, you're just bragging!" Wang Wenchang scoffed, looking unconvinced. "Someone with that kind of skill in that remote, impoverished place? Don't be ridiculous!"

When Captain Wang saw that his son didn't believe him, he got impatient, pulled out Xu Kuo's translation manuscript from his pocket, and slapped it in front of Wang Wenchang: "If you don't believe me, look for yourself! Look at this translation, and then look at you. You still have the nerve to call yourself a cultured person!"

Wang Wenchang picked up the translation manuscript with skepticism and began to read it line by line. At first, he had a hint of disdain on his face, but the more he read, the more serious his expression became. In the end, he was completely stunned.

"This...this translation...is amazing!" Wang Wenchang slapped his thigh, his voice trembling with excitement. "This level of skill is even better than those old scholars in the newspaper! Dad, who wrote this translation? Tell me quickly!"

"Who else could it be? It's Xu Kuo, the one I mentioned to you, Brother Xu!" Captain Wang said smugly, as if he had written the translation himself.

"Xu Kuo? The one who raised fish?" Wang Wenchang's eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! How could a fish farmer from the countryside have such a high level of English?"

"What do you mean it's impossible? He's just that amazing!" Captain Wang got more and more excited as he spoke. "Let me tell you, Wenchang, don't underestimate Brother Xu. He's no ordinary person!"
