Chapter Six: Chasing Away the Villains

"You say my wife is a remnant of the reactionaries, but what evidence do you have?"

"What evidence do we need? Everyone knows that the fox spirit you married has her whole family gone to Taiwan. If she's not a remnant of the reactionaries, what is she? In the past, she would have been thrown into a pig cage!"

Mentioning her father, Jiang Xiuying lowered her head sadly and whispered in Xu Kuo's ear, "Maybe I should go with them?"

Jiang Xiuying's thinking was simple: since the team had already sent people, there was nothing she could do about it.

Honestly, it was enough that Xu Kuo stood up for her today. No matter what happens in the future, she will remember this man's kindness for the rest of her life.

Xu Kuo was clearly displeased upon hearing this.

“If you say my wife is a remnant of the reactionaries, then she is a remnant of the reactionaries. Then I’ll say you are the five black categories and capitalists!”

"Stop talking nonsense, we need to take them away today."

Seeing that the two sides were deadlocked, someone in the team spoke up, but Xu Kuo didn't care at all.

"You say you came from the team, what evidence do you have to prove that you are from the team?"

Those people had never encountered such a difficult situation before, and they were momentarily stunned.

"Even if you can prove you're on the right side, I ask you, what gives you the right to arrest people so easily?"

"This is a new society, not an era where you can just talk your way out of things and take people away. What's the difference between you and those capitalists who exploit the people?"

The men's faces were clearly grim; no one had ever dared to point their fingers at them and curse like that before.

Zhang Cuifen and Liu Xueli, who were standing nearby, couldn't help but gloat. The third brother had really offended someone.

However, Xu Kuo had no intention of letting these two people go.

"And you two troublemakers, don't think I don't know what you're up to. You're just jealous that my wife is prettier and more beautiful than you!"

"Look at you two, one big and chubby, the other with a shrewd look on your face. You've not only ruined this family, but now you're turning around and blaming us. Since you came in, I haven't treated you badly for a single day, you sons of bitches!"

A group of people, having been scolded for no reason, lost all patience and started hitting each other.

“There are more of us than there are only three of them. Let’s attack together.”

“If anyone dares to take another step forward, I will report them to the team. You accuse my wife of being a remnant of the reactionaries without any evidence. This is slander against the family of a martyr. You broke into our home without our consent. This is trespassing. If you dare to lay a hand on her, this is assaulting a member of the public and breaking the law!”

Xu Kuo's words were so powerful that they deterred the others from stepping forward.

In any case, any one of the crimes Xu Kuo mentioned would be enough to get them into serious trouble.

These words deeply moved Jiang Xiuying, who was standing nearby, but she was also quite shocked.

She had originally thought Xu Kuo was just a weak peasant, but his words today truly impressed her.

He spoke these words not only clearly and logically, but also with sound reasoning. What was even more surprising was that he was also well-versed in the law.

She had assumed that Xu Kuo, having only attended school for a few days, would only know a few characters, but she was surprised to find that he was far more learned than she had imagined.

Others may not know, but Jiang Xiuying had studied abroad. Even she, who had studied abroad, might not have been able to explain it as smoothly as Xu Kuo.

The others were even more intimidated by Xu Kuo. The group came in a grand manner, but left looking disheveled.

After everyone left, Xu Kuo turned around and helped his elderly mother, whose legs were weak.

"Mom, it's alright now. With me here, you can stay home without worry."

"Oh dear, what a misfortune for our family! How could we have chosen such wives for our eldest and second sons? They don't seem like a family at all!"

Ren Hongmei truly felt sorry for her third daughter-in-law. Her good daughter hadn't done anything wrong, yet she had gotten herself into such a mess.

Ren Hongmei had originally planned to plead with the eldest and second eldest sons on their behalf, but judging from the current situation, the two families are now completely at odds.

After comforting his mother, Xu Kuo turned to comfort his wife.

Only then did Xu Kuo realize that Jiang Xiuying's eyes seemed to speak, staring at him with bright eyes, something that had never happened before.

"Xiuya, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something dirty on my face?"

Jiang Xiuying was already beautiful, and her beautiful eyes stared at him without blinking. No man could resist that, and Xu Kuo was no exception.

Moreover, he was now a strong and healthy man, and soon he swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

"My dear husband, I really underestimated you before. I didn't expect you to be so knowledgeable. Also, I thought I was going to leave today, but I didn't expect you to stand in my way."

As she spoke, Jiang Xiuying's voice trembled with a sob, and a few glistening tears welled up in the corners of her eyes.

"Don't cry, this is what I should do. My wife has been bullied like this by outsiders. If I don't take responsibility, what kind of couple are we?"

Hearing Xu Kuo speak so bluntly, Jiang Xiuying blushed again.

"This, this is still broad daylight, why are you spouting such nonsense?"

Knowing that his wife was just shy, Xu Kuo chuckled and remembered the promise she had made to him.

"I behaved so well today, shouldn't you reward me?"

Jiang Xiuying let out a soft "Eh," and looked at Xu Kuo's malicious smile, feeling even more embarrassed.

In the evening, Ren Hongmei couldn't bear to waste it, so she added a few sweet potatoes to the corn porridge.

The taste was somewhat better than before, but it was still a bit hard to swallow. Xu Kuo forced himself to drink a bowl.

At the same time, he was thinking that this couldn't go on. He had to find a way to exchange all those things. If he had more things, his mother would naturally not be so frugal.

Looking at his fair-skinned wife beside him, Xu Kuo wished it would be evening in an instant. Every remaining second felt like an eternity. Once Jiang Xiuying and his mother had put down their chopsticks, he immediately took the dishes and chopsticks used by the three of them to the kitchen to wash them.

"Mom, it's getting late, let's all get some rest."

As someone who's been through it all, Ren Hongmei could see right through her son's eagerness.

"My son, your health has only just started to improve, don't overdo it!"

As she passed by Xu Kuo, Ren Hongmei carefully gave her son some instructions.

Xu Kuo felt a moment of embarrassment, but more than that, he felt anticipation.

"Master..."

When Xu Kuo returned after washing up, he saw his wife lying in bed waiting for him!
