"What are we betting on?" Xu Kuo retorted without backing down.
"Let's bet on whether this land can grow crops!" Liu Yuan raised an eyebrow. "If I lose, you can do whatever you want with me! But if I win..."
She paused deliberately, her gaze sweeping over Xu Kuo, and chuckled, "If I win, we'll be mother and son from now on, and you'll have to call me 'Mom'!"
"You!" Xu Kuo was so angry at Liu Yuan's shameless behavior that he laughed.
"Alright! Let's bet! Who's afraid of who!"
Jiang Xiuying stood aside, watching the two of them bicker like children, and shook her head helplessly.
My best friend is great in every way, except she's too competitive. She likes to compete and always has to prove herself right.
The group chatted and laughed as they went home.
Xu Kuo put the fertilizer inside the house, dusted off his hands, and said, "Xiuya, Teacher Liu, you two rest first. I'll go to the market and buy some seeds."
Jiang Xiuying was taken aback: "Buy seeds? Don't we still have some left over from previous years?"
“Those won’t do.” Xu Kuo waved his hand and smiled mysteriously. “What I’m going to plant this time isn’t your average crop. Just wait and see, it’ll definitely open your eyes!”
Liu Yuan pursed his lips, clearly still not believing that Xu Kuo could make a name for himself on that barren land.
Xu Kuo didn't explain further, turned around and left.
He knew in his heart that ordinary seeds could not compare to the high-quality sweet potato seeds provided by the system.
Products produced by the system are always of high quality, especially since the sweet potato seeds are specifically labeled "premium," indicating they are definitely not ordinary.
The problem is, my points are almost gone. The 200 points I got from exchanging the jade pendant last time were used to buy a sickle, fertilizer, and seeds, and now I'm completely broke. If I want to buy more seeds, I need to find a way to earn more points quickly.
Xu Kuo walked along, pondering. If that wild ginseng could be exchanged for 100 points, did that mean that anything valuable could be exchanged for points in the system?
We have to give this a try!
Xu Kuo patted his pockets; he still had a considerable amount of money left from the last exchange.
In those days, money was far less important to Xu Kuo than points, but for others, they were their lifeline!
Having made up his mind, Xu Kuo strode off to the market.
Upon arriving at the market, Xu Kuo found a conspicuous spot, took out a tattered cloth from the bag he had brought with him, spread it on the ground, piled the remaining money on the tattered cloth, and finally wrote four large characters with rough charcoal: "Holding heavy money to acquire treasures!"
This display immediately attracted the attention of many people.
"Hey, what's this kid doing? Setting up a stall to make money?"
"Sell it for money? Have you ever seen someone exchange money for money? Is this person an idiot?"
"He seems like a conman! These days, who has spare money to buy that junk?"
"Exactly, everyone with a little money goes to buy food. Who would be foolish enough to exchange money for a bunch of useless old stuff?"
More and more people gathered around, discussing the matter, but no one stepped forward.
No one believed that Xu Kuo would exchange money for useless things.
Just as everyone was discussing it, a emaciated old man squeezed out from the crowd.
The old man was dressed in rags, his face sallow and emaciated, clearly having been starving for a long time. He walked shakily to Xu Kuo's stall, his voice hoarse like a broken gong: "Young man, you...you really...you really buy old things here?"
"Grandpa, what treasure do you have?" Xu Kuo's eyes lit up, and he quickly stood up. There's hope!
"Grandpa, don't be fooled by him!" A kind-hearted auntie next to her couldn't help but warn, "These days, everyone has already exchanged valuable things for grain. Who would spend their spare money on useless things? Don't let him swindle you out of your coffin lid."
"Yes, sir, you'd better keep your eyes open and not get scammed!"
"These days, there are so many scammers!"
The people around him offered their advice, fearing that the old man might be deceived.
The old man's already cloudy eyes became even dimmer after being told that by the crowd.
He clutched something tightly in his hand, his lips trembling, wanting to say something but unable to utter a word.
Xu Kuo knew in his heart that if he didn't perform well, he probably wouldn't be able to do business with the company.
He waved his hand at the people around him: "Everyone, please be quiet. When I, Xu Kuo, do business, I value integrity above all else!"
After saying that, he turned to the old man and said in a gentle tone, "Grandpa, don't be afraid. Take out whatever you have, and I promise to give you a fair price!"
The old man hesitated for a moment, then steeled himself and slowly opened his palm.
In the palm of his hand lay a pocket watch, lying quietly.
The pocket watch has an antique style, the bracelet is broken, the dial is covered with scratches, and even one of the hands is missing, clearly showing that it has been through a lot.
The old man stared intently at Xu Kuo, his cloudy eyes filled with trepidation and anticipation.
This was his last possession; he would never have put it up for sale if he hadn't been so starving.
Right now, I just hope to exchange some money to buy some food and get through these difficult days.
"This piece of junk isn't worth anything. And this kid, pretending to be a 'high-value treasure hunter,' I bet he's just figuring out how to swindle this old man!"
The surrounding crowd buzzed and whispered, their gazes toward Xu Kuo filled with disdain and mockery.
In their view, the broken pocket watch was worthless and Xu Kuo would never spend money to buy it.
Just as everyone was waiting to see him make a fool of himself, a clear notification sound suddenly rang in Xu Kuo's mind:
[Ding! A Western pocket watch has been detected. Redeeming it will earn you 200 points! Redeem now?]
Xu Kuo was overjoyed; just as he had expected! The system really could exchange valuable items for points!
