Chapter 16

Looking at the fruit trees in front of the window and behind the house, Lin Weiwan decided to put them all into the space when it was late at night.

I opened the storeroom behind the kitchen and put all the coal briquettes and wood in it, leaving only five sticks of firewood outside.

I looked at the time and it was only 12 o'clock. I couldn't stay at home. The Zhou family hadn't come back yet, and it was even more impossible for them to wait for me to cook.

After locking the door, Lin Weiwan rode his bicycle to his classmate Wang Jingjing's house. Just as he passed the door, he saw Wang Jingjing coming out.

"Lin Weiwan? Why are you here?" Wang looked quietly at her classmate Lin Weiwan. Although they were in the same class at school, they had little interaction.

"I came here specially to see you. Have you found a job?" Lin Weiwan parked the car and looked at Wang Jingjing.

There was a reason why so many classmates came to see Wang Jingjing. Among the three children in the Wang family, Wang Jingjing just met the criteria for going to the countryside. Wang Jingjing's father, Wang Fuduo, was the director of the street office in the area where Lin Weiwan was currently working.

"No, you're lucky. You just graduated and your family has found a job for you." Wang Jingjing sighed. Jobs are hard to come by these days. These past two days, she went to her relatives' house to get some cotton coupons and prepared to pack her bags to go to the countryside.

"I'm going to sell my job, what about you?" Lin Weiwan asked directly.

Wang Jingjing thought she had heard it wrongly. After a moment of hesitation, she quickly pulled Lin Weiwan into the house.

"Lin Weiwan, please sit for a moment. I'll pour you some sugar water, ah... make you some malted milk." Wang Jingjing happily ran to the kitchen.

Lin Weiwan stopped Wang Jingjing directly, "Don't worry, I just came out after eating something. If you want to, let's talk."

Wang Jingjing nodded, "Then let's go find my dad."

Lin Weiwan rode her bicycle to the subdistrict office with Wang Jingjing. The two walked into Director Wang's office hand in hand.

"Girl, are you telling the truth?" Director Wang looked at this pretty girl who was about the same age as his daughter.

"Yes, Uncle Wang, you are interested in this job. Let's finalize this matter." Lin Weiwan gave an affirmative answer.

"Can I ask the reason?" Director Wang couldn't figure out why Lin Weiwan would give up the golden nest of the motor factory. Outsiders couldn't get in even if they tried their best.

"Uncle Wang, you should have heard that a group of people who claimed to be my relatives came to my house.

They didn't go to school to make trouble, they came to my house. Even when they met me on the street, they came to me to claim to be my relatives. Now that the whole family has moved in, my job has become a problem.

They have two children who graduated in the same year. My household registration is not combined with theirs, so even if I don’t have a job, it’s okay. If I sell my job, they can have some peace of mind. Also, I want to go to the countryside.”

Wang Fuduo nodded after hearing this. This matter was known to everyone in their area. Even if it was an ordinary family, it would be easy to solve. A name of someone who wanted to take over the family could get rid of the person.

But the other party was different. A father who was the deputy director of a machinery factory, a son who was a soldier, and another son who was a doctor. There was no need for such a family to bring disgrace upon themselves by deceiving a little girl.

Hearing about going to the countryside, the whole person stood up and said, “Niece, why do you want to go to the countryside? You all know what will happen there. You…” Wang Fuduo didn’t know what this beautiful girl in front of him was thinking and actually wanted to go to the countryside.

"Uncle Wang, I want to go to the countryside to support construction for two years and train myself." Lin Weiwan couldn't find any other excuses. He couldn't say that he went to the countryside for revenge.

"Then, niece, how much do you want for this job?" Wang Fu thought for a while and decided that he could find a job for this girl and bring her back in two years. He could just mail some things to take care of her in the next two years when he had nothing to do.

"One thousand, no job, at least I want to save some money for my trip to the countryside. I also need some national grain coupons, meat coupons, cotton coupons and industrial coupons." Lin Weiwan thought that he would need help from Wang Fuduo, the director of the office, in the future. The price was not much. After all, his job was to be a cashier in the office of the motor factory, which was a job that he could do rain or shine.

When Wang Fuduo heard the price, he slapped his thigh and said, "Niece, Uncle Wang thanks you for this. I'll give you some receipts for 1,200 yuan later. It's not easy for a girl like you to live. If you have any problems in the future, come to me."

"Thank you, Uncle Wang. Could you please go with me to the Youth Educated Office? I want to go to the Northeast Black Market to work in the countryside." Lin Weiwan didn't expect Director Wang to give her an extra 200 yuan. This amount of money is not a small amount now, even though the highest salary outside is 1,600 yuan per worker.

But who knows what's going on? After all, the current salary is only about 30 yuan a month. It's not a big deal to not eat or drink for three years to buy a job.

"That's easy. I happen to know someone from the Youth Educated Office. So when can we complete the formalities?" Director Wang looked at Lin Weiwan. Naturally, he hoped that this job would be done as quickly as possible, fearing that something might go wrong if he delayed.

"It's all right. If Uncle Wang is free, we can do it tomorrow morning." Lin Weiwan certainly hoped to make it quick, as she still had a lot of things to do.

After eating a bowl of Yangchun noodles outside, the Zhou family had already returned when he pushed the door open. Lin Weiwan locked the car and strolled into the house, feeling relaxed and walking lightly.

"It's already so late, and you still remember to come back. There's no rice at home, but you didn't even bother to buy some." Old Mrs. Zhou was sitting in the living room, and her face turned ugly when she saw Lin Weiwan coming back empty-handed.

I've been spending money these days, and now seeing Lin Weiwan coming back empty-handed, I can't help but criticize him.

"Grandma, are you talking about me?" Lin Weiwan was in a rare good mood and responded to what Grandma Zhou said.

"If not you, who should I blame? You eat idle meals every day and you're the replacement of two people. Don't you know to buy things for the house? The rice jar is empty, and you're such an adult and you still need others to serve you." Old Mrs. Zhou became angrier and angrier as she spoke, and her voice became much louder.

When Lin Weiwan didn't come back, the Zhou family members got together to discuss the matter and found out that Lin Weiwan didn't agree to give Mr. Zhou a kidney transplant at all.

Gong was unwilling to give up the job, and the whole family was unhappy. They were all in a bad mood when they saw Lin Weiwan coming back.

"Before your family came, I still had a lot of fine grains in my rice jar. These days, I can't eat much with three meals a day. You told me that it's gone. Then where are my things? Who ate my grain?"

Lin Weiwan sat on the sofa and looked at the Zhou family.

"What are you talking about? You eat that little bit of food for the whole family, but no one else does?" Zhou Weibei was the first to feel embarrassed. What he thought was a done deal was ruined, and his heart felt like it was being fried in oil.

"Ah...you still remember that the whole family ate up all my rations and now ask me why I didn't buy more rations. Do you guys just want to eat for free? You all waited for me to raise a little girl, but when you didn't come to the Lin family, you all starved." Lin Weiwan looked sarcastically at the Zhou family members who were pretending to be stupid.
