Chapter 72: Fell into Fuwowo

Time seemed to be slowed down, and Ju Zhu Bu Xi seemed to be trapped in place by the minute hand and the second hand. Yan Mingli felt like he was working for a year in the last half hour.

But he could clearly sense a change in the members' attitude towards him. They no longer ignored him coldly, but gradually began to talk to him tentatively, and even made a good-natured joke or two.

He knew that the reason for these subtle changes was because of his little girl.

The educated youth from Beijing, the little girl who was specially asked to be taken care of by the commune secretary, embodied another kind of status and authority in the poor and remote village.

They are willing to pay attention to what she says and trust her judgment, and they are also willing to try to show the most basic kindness to themselves.

"I didn't think so before, but now I look at the boy from the Yan family and he seems to be better looking than those young men in the village." The member who witnessed the whole process of Mo Yutong defending Yan Mingli sighed.

"A guy who's attracted to girls from the capital, how bad can he be?" an older member lamented. "Back then, when his father...first came here, he charmed a lot of girls, young and old."

"That was true. Thinking back to those days... it was incredible!" Some members began to reminisce about the past, as if the tall, handsome, gentle and elegant man was still standing in the threshing ground of the brigade headquarters, smiling calmly and confidently.

"He's an educated youth from the capital, well-informed about the policies. He knew he was a member of the Five Categories, yet he still dared to live in his house and even said he liked him. That speaks volumes."

"What does this mean?" a member asked in confusion.

"The girl is not stupid. Does she really dare to jump into the fire pit?" One member glanced at the man, a trace of contempt for his IQ flashed in his eyes.

"Is there any explanation for this?" Another member was full of doubts.

We are all farmers who work hard in the fields and live frugally. How can we understand these twists and turns?

In the past, when a team leader's family married an educated youth, it was because they were powerful, poor and lower-middle peasants with good family backgrounds, and had relatives who ate commercial grain in the county.

But the boy from the Yan family is different. He is a member of the fifth category and is extremely poor. Even dogs entering his house will be rejected, and thieves who break into his house will be thrown away to avoid being killed.

It's just that Li family, they behave like beasts all day long, relying on their numbers to bully a few children. Isn't this retribution?

Such people should be sent to study classes to learn properly, and it would be best if the whole family should go there.

"What's the explanation?" The member pointed to the sky and said in a pretentious tone, "Did you listen to the radio?"

"That whole chatter at night goes on for a long time and I can't understand it." Someone shook his head. That thing gave his head a headache and he wanted to rush into the radio station and smash it.

"That's not the team's broadcast, it's the county's. It comes out of a tin box, and it's much more impressive than the ones on the village poles."

"What did they say? What does it have to do with the kid from the Yan family?" A member asked, nodding in the direction of Yan Mingli.

"I heard there was some kind of meeting and some kind of directive, something about one study, four criticisms, and five major lectures, and it was related to education. Isn't that why Yan... was put on the list?"

"The girl must have gotten inside information, otherwise she would never dare to do that. Maybe the commune secretary also got the information and informed the team leader, otherwise the team leader would have asked a dung carrier to plow the soil." Someone immediately began to analyze it in detail.

"That's right, plowing the soil is much more comfortable than carrying manure, and the work points are two points higher." Someone quickly agreed, thinking that this was the truth.

"Two cents a day. Some months in the new calendar can have thirty-one days. One work point is three cents, so a month is..." Someone counted on his fingers and scratched his head, finally giving up helplessly and asking the person next to him for help: "Can you calculate it? How much is it?"

"Boy from the Yan family, if you get two more work points every day, how much more money can you make in a month?" A member of the cooperative shouted at Yan Mingli.

"A long month costs one dollar and eighty-six cents, a short month costs one dollar and eighty cents, and February is not a leap month this year, so it costs one dollar and sixty-eight cents." Yan Mingli was stunned for a moment, then replied loudly.

"The kid from the Yan family is really amazing. Look how fast he calculated. Before I could even figure out the numbers, he already had the answer." Someone couldn't help but sigh.

"Young people, your brains are working well." A young voice suddenly interrupted, causing another middle-aged voice to say disdainfully: "You are young, but your brains are working well? What's the difference between you and a head full of tofu dregs?"

"Is it the same for me? My grades were not good when I was in school." The young man muttered guiltily.

"That's right. Yan Mingli gets first place in every subject every year. But you got me first place." The middle-aged man stopped talking and turned his head to glance at him sideways.

"I passed the exam! Weren't you very happy then?" The young man said indignantly, stiffening his neck.

"First from the bottom, tell me whether I'm happy or not." The middle-aged man straightened up, his eyes wide open with anger.

"The last one is not the first one!" The young man stared at the middle-aged man who was already getting angry, and looked around quickly.

"You little bastard, how dare you challenge me!" The middle-aged man dropped his hoe and ran towards the young man.

The young man was prepared and immediately dropped his hoe and ran towards the escape route he had just found.

"Stop right there." The middle-aged man took off his Liberation shoes and threw them hard at the back of the young man's head.

"I'm not stupid." The young man rubbed the back of his head and ran faster.

Looking at the father and son chasing each other in the field, a warm light flashed in Yan Mingli's eyes.

Although no one said anything explicitly, the fact that they were willing to chat with him still made him happy.
