Chapter 114 New Year's Gift

Han Xiao could hardly believe that the same eldest son who had left Kyoto when he heard his son's cheerful voice on the phone was the same son who had been so lifeless and on the verge of a mental breakdown.

He sensed that his eldest son seemed very happy and enjoying his life there. It seemed that having his sister bring him to Luancheng was the right thing to do.

Then Han Yixian said on the phone, "Dad, it's almost Chinese New Year, and I just wanted to talk to you and ask how you're doing. I also want to tell you something else. Last year's harvest across the country wasn't very good, and I'm sure you know that. There hasn't been much snow in many places this winter, and if there's even less rain this spring, there's a possibility of disaster. You should be prepared."

Don't worry about me here, I'm doing well. I'll probably be back in Kyoto soon.

Han Xiao was indeed aware of what his eldest son had said. Since his eldest son had said such things, it meant the situation was quite serious. He needed to make preparations.

But what does the eldest son mean by going back to Kyoto? Does he mean he wants to go back to Kyoto to visit him?

That would be good too. He's too busy with work to come here, but it would be nice if his eldest son came back so they could meet up.

Han Xiao said, "I'll be prepared. Take good care of yourself over there. Call me if you encounter any difficulties."

The father and son chatted about everyday things.

Finally, Han Yixian said, "Dad, I'm doing well here. Please take care."

Han Xiao breathed a huge sigh of relief after hanging up the phone. He could sense from the conversation that his intelligent, brave, and spirited eldest son had returned.

As long as his eldest son can pull himself together, that's all that matters. As for his eldest son's future attitude towards his mother, Han Xiao had nothing to say; he respected his son's decision. His wife's treatment of their eldest son was truly disheartening.

Is that the attitude a biological mother should have? Anyone who didn't know better would think she was a stepmother.

Since his eldest son had made his stance clear, he supported him.

Han Yixian did not mention on the phone that there was a possibility that his leg could be cured. Everything was still uncertain, and he did not want his father to be disappointed.

Furthermore, he didn't want to cause Du Yuhan any trouble. He had promised Du Yuhan that he would keep her secret, so he wouldn't tell anyone, not even his own father.

It's not too late to tell my father the good news when my leg is really healed.

Han Yixian also wanted to make phone calls to some friends during this trip, as there were some he hadn't spoken to in a long time except through letters. He also needed to have someone prepare a few things for him. With the Lunar New Year approaching, he wanted to prepare New Year's gifts for Du Yuhan and Liu Gang.

He had already decided what gift to give, and he just needed to send someone to prepare it according to his requirements.

Han Yixian needed it urgently, so the items were quickly delivered to his courtyard.

On the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month, Zhou Zhengye came to the courtyard. He brought a lot of things from somewhere, including a large piece of pork, a piece of beef, candies and pastries, and several kinds of sea fish, all of which were New Year's goods.

Zhou Zhengye then took out a red sweater from a bag and said, "Yuhan, this is my New Year's gift to you. I've been coming to your courtyard for meals a lot lately, and I've caused you a lot of trouble. Consider this a thank-you gift. I don't know if you like it."

When Du Yuhan saw that Zhou Zhengye wanted to give her a gift, she quickly waved her hand and said, "No need, Brother Zhou, there's no need to give me a gift. You are Brother Han's good brother, and it's only right that I entertain you when you come to my house for dinner. Besides, we also need to eat, so you really haven't caused me any trouble. I can't accept this gift."

Du Yuhan really didn't want to accept Zhou Zhengye's gift, especially the clothes.

She didn't want any further contact with Zhou Zhengye. He was always coming to the courtyard, and while she had no choice but to interact with him, she would never take things any further.

Han Yi was very displeased to see Zhou Zhengye give Du Yuhan a gift, but he didn't show it. He was secretly glad that he had also prepared a New Year's gift for Du Yuhan, otherwise he would have been outshone by Zhou Zhengye.

Zhou Zhengye had anticipated that Du Yuhan would refuse, and said, "Not only do you have a gift, Liu Gang also has a gift. Liu Gang, you've taken such good care of your brother, this is also a reward for you."

As he spoke, Zhou Zhengye took out a Hero fountain pen. This Hero fountain pen was very high-end and looked very beautiful; it must have cost at least ten yuan.

Liu Gang looked at the pen handed to him, somewhat flattered, and said, "Brother Zhou, you're too kind. It's only right that I take care of Brother Xian, there's no need for a gift. This Hero pen is very expensive, you can keep it for yourself."

Zhou Zhengye said somewhat unhappily, "Are you all complaining that the gift I gave you isn't good enough?"

Upon hearing this, Liu Gang quickly waved his hand and said, "No, no, I didn't do anything special. I'm really embarrassed to accept such a valuable item as the Hero Pen."

Zhou Zhengye shoved the pen into Liu Gang's hand and said, "Just take it. Don't be so indecisive, you're a grown man."

Liu Gang was somewhat at a loss, holding the pen that had been shoved into his hand. He kept glancing at Han Yixian.

Han Yixian said, "You should accept the New Year's gift from your brother Zhou. He's right, because he always comes here to freeload and has caused Yuhan a lot of trouble. It's no big deal for you to accept a gift from him, Yuhan."

Although Han Yixian was very reluctant for Du Yuhan to accept the sweater from Zhou Zhengye, he knew that refusing would lead to a stalemate and make everyone unhappy. So, he accepted the gift.

Whether Du Yuhan wears the clothes or not is none of Zhou Zhengye's business. He will ask someone to buy Du Yuhan several more clothes, including sweaters, so that Zhou Zhengye's clothes can be relegated to the bottom of his drawer.

Thinking about his gift, Han Yixian also decided to give it out now. Originally, he wanted to wait until New Year's Eve to give it to him. But now that Zhou Zhengye had already given a gift, he couldn't let him be the first to receive it.

Han Yi went back into the house and took out his gifts, saying, "I've also prepared New Year's gifts for you."

Han Yixian prepared a long gray woolen coat and a pair of black leather shoes as New Year's gifts for Du Yuhan, and also a pair of leather shoes as a gift for Liu Gang.

Liu Gang didn't hesitate to accept the gift from Brother Xian. He took out the leather shoes, looked at them happily, tried them on, and walked around the room excitedly, saying, "Brother Xian, they fit perfectly. I've never worn leather shoes before in my life. Thank you for the gift, Brother Xian."

Then he said to Du Yuhan, who was somewhat stunned, "Yuhan, come inside and try on your leather shoes and coat to see if they fit."

Du Yuhan said with some difficulty, "Brother Han, this gift is too precious. I can't accept it."

She didn't want to accept Zhou Zhengye's gift, nor did she want to accept Han Yixian's gift.

Han Yixian said, "Look, Liu Gang didn't refuse, so you shouldn't either. Besides, you've already accepted your Brother Zhou's gift, how can you not accept mine?"
