Chapter 119 Heartache and Touching

Suppressing his excitement, Han Yixian turned his wheelchair, lifted the curtain, and went out of the room.

Du Yuhan also saw Han Yixian and waved to him, saying, "Brother Han, I'm back."

Han Yixian stared intently at Du Yuhan, as if she might disappear.

He noticed that Du Yuhan had become much darker and thinner, which was obviously caused by her being exposed to the wind and sun all the time.

As Du Yuhan approached, Han Yi felt both heartache and gratitude. Du Yuhan had become like this all for him, so that he could stand up again.

Han Yixian grabbed Du Yuhan's hand as she approached, only to find that not only had Du Yuhan's face darkened and her body become thinner, but her hands had also become much rougher.

He held Du Yuhan's hand, and looking at the calluses on it, his eyes welled up with tears. Du Yuhan's hands not only had calluses, but also some wounds. Her once fair and delicate hands were now rougher than his. This made Han Yixian's heart ache with a mixture of sorrow and pain. Du Yuhan had given him so much. How could he miss out on such a wonderful girl?

He blinked hard to scare away the tears in his eyes and said, "You came back several days later than we agreed. Do you know how worried I was?"

Du Yuhan said somewhat guiltily, "I haven't been able to gather all the necessary medicinal herbs, so it's been a few days late. But I've gathered all the medicine now, and we can choose a suitable day to treat your leg."

Han Yixian asked in surprise, "Really? All the medicine is ready? You can treat my leg soon?"

Du Yuhan nodded emphatically and said, "You'll be able to stand up soon. So don't be upset."

Han Yixian said with some helplessness, "It's not that I'm unhappy, it's that I'm worried about you. I'm afraid you'll encounter danger if you go looking for medicine all by yourself. If something happens to you, I'd rather my leg stay like this forever."

Touched, Du Yuhan reassured her, "I'm fine. I'm confident in my own safety. I wouldn't take any risks easily. Now that I'm back, you can rest assured."

Han Yixian held Du Yuhan's hand and said with heartache, "Look how rough your hands are, and you've lost a lot of weight. You need to take good care of yourself. You've suffered so much this time."

Du Yuhan quickly pulled her hand back when she saw that Han Yixian was still holding it, and blushed as she changed the subject, asking, "Why haven't I seen Liu Gang?"

Han Yixian replied, "Today is the day to buy grain. I sent him with your grain ration book to buy grain. Come on, come inside, have some water and rest."

Du Yuhan said, "I'll take the herbs out of my bag and put them out to dry first. I'm in a hurry to get back, and some of the herbs I picked in the last few days haven't dried yet."

As she spoke, Du Yuhan found a basket and put some herbs in it to dry. She also took out some herbs that had already been processed and tidied them up. Only after she had finished tidying them up did she go inside.

Du Yuhan went into the bathroom to wash up before sitting in the living room and drinking the water that Han Yixian poured for her.

Du Yuhan was gone for almost two months, and she was very worried about things at home.

She took a sip of water and asked, "Is everything alright at home?"

Han Yi replied, "Everything is fine at home. We've planted everything you arranged in the yard. Liu Gang and Qi Wen are also taking good care of the chickens and rabbits."

The vegetable garden was the same; the two of them took turns carrying water to irrigate the vegetables. It's just that the chickens weren't laying eggs as frequently as when you were home. There was nothing they could do about it; they were both doing their best.

Du Yuhan laughed and said, "It seems I still have to stay home. I need to take care of those hens to ensure they produce a lot. The vegetables in the yard are growing well; thank you both for your hard work. Brother Han, how's the rain here? Has it rained since I left?"

Han Yixian, his voice heavy with worry, replied to Du Yuhan's question, "Since you left, there's only been a light rain, barely enough to wet the ground before it stopped. The situation this year is extremely serious. The authorities have already called on farmers to begin drought relief efforts. How are things elsewhere?"

Du Yuhan, her heart heavy, replied after hearing Han Yixian's words: "The situation elsewhere is also very dire. If it doesn't rain soon, many places will suffer a complete crop failure. They can only wait for government relief."

If the government can't provide enough relief, some people might starve to death. The thought of this makes me very sad, but there's nothing I can do. One person's strength is ultimately too insignificant.

Han Yixian said, "Don't overthink it. These aren't things you should worry about. Just take care of yourself."

Du Yuhan said, "Brother Han, it would be best if Liu Gang stayed away when I treat your leg. I don't want anyone else to know that I healed your leg, except for you."

To be honest, gathering the medicinal herbs to treat your leg was incredibly difficult. Especially since two of the key ingredients were left to me by my master. I simply don't have the ability to prepare another batch of these herbs.”

Han Yixian asked, "Did you go into the mountains to gather herbs by yourself?"

Du Yuhan nodded and said, "That's for sure. Many medicinal herbs grow deep in the mountains. It's not easy to find them, let alone pick them. There was one herb that I searched for a long time before I found it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been several days late getting home."

Han Yixian frowned and asked, "Did you encounter any danger?"

Du Yuhan shook her head and said, "Although I went into the deep mountains and forests, I was lucky and didn't encounter any wild beasts, let alone people. Moreover, I had medicine to repel poisonous insects, so those insects didn't get close to me, so it went relatively smoothly."

Han Yi knew that Du Yuhan was definitely not telling him the truth. How could someone traveling deep in the mountains and forests always be so lucky as to never encounter a wild beast? Du Yuhan was hiding the truth from him so that he wouldn't feel guilty.
