Wang Yuqiao turned her head and saw the large broom in her yard. She picked it up and chased Han Yixian away, yelling, "Get out of here! We, the Du family, have no son-in-law like you. My daughter treated you so well, and you bullied her. Get out of here and don't come back to our house. We don't recognize you as our son-in-law."
Han Yixian didn't dodge when facing Wang Yuqiao's big broom, but let the broom hit him, as if that would make him feel better.
Liu Gang anxiously stopped Wang Yuqiao, saying, "Auntie, this can't be entirely blamed on Brother Xian. He didn't expect something like this to happen. We've come to apologize to your family."
Du Haifeng watched from the side without saying a word, but Du Lianqiao took advantage of the chaos to turn around, pull Du Haifeng aside, and wink at him.
Du Haifeng immediately understood what his father meant and ran out of the yard.
Du Yuhan was writing a project proposal at the Liang family's house, thinking about what kind of house she wanted to build, when her younger brother, Du Haifeng, ran in.
He rushed over to Du Yuhan and said, "Sister, Han Yixian is here. Dad told me to tell you not to show your face so he won't see you."
Du Yuhan was surprised to hear this; Han Yixian had actually come looking for her.
She asked, "Did he say anything?"
Du Haifeng said, "He told our father about your news, the news of your 'death,' and then asked our family to forgive him, saying that from now on, the affairs of the Du family would be his affairs. He would be the Du family's son-in-law. Sister, he's acting like your husband."
Du Yuhan frowned and asked, "What did our father say?"
Du Haifeng said, "Our father didn't say anything, but our mother picked up a broom and hit him, saying she didn't recognize him as her son-in-law and told him to get out. He didn't dodge, and just let our mother hit him with the big broom."
Du Yuhan felt a pang of sadness upon hearing that Han Yixian had been beaten by her mother. Such a proud man, yet he didn't fight back or retaliate; he must feel immense guilt over her "death."
But she couldn't be soft-hearted, otherwise all her previous efforts would be in vain. She just wanted to live a peaceful life and protect her loved ones.
Being with Han Yixian meant trouble, and she had finally escaped a pile of troubles and didn't want to go back in.
Du Yuhan said to her younger brother, "Haifeng, go back and secretly tell our parents to kick him out of the house. Don't make things difficult for him."
Du Haifeng replied, "Okay, I'll go tell Father and Mother right away. Sister, don't go out for now, I'll let you know after he leaves."
After saying that, Du Haifeng ran home.
When Du Haifeng arrived home, Han Yixian had already been kicked out of the Du family compound.
Han Yixian saw Du Haifeng running back and said, "You must be Haifeng. Your brother-in-law brought you some things. Take them in later."
I've been transferred to City C, and I'll be working there from now on. Here's my new address and phone number; just give me a call if you need any help.
After saying that, Han Yixian had Liu Gang unload everything he had brought from the car. Then he handed Du Haifeng a piece of paper with the address and phone number written on it and said, "I'll come to see you again after my father-in-law and mother-in-law have calmed down. You should also persuade them not to hurt themselves. We'll head back now."
Du Haifeng quickly shouted, "Hey, wait a minute, we don't want your stuff, you can take it with you."
Han Yixian said, "This is for your sister."
After saying that, he got into the car and let Liu Gang drive away from Laohewan Village.
Han Yixian is very busy now that he's just started working in City C, and he only managed to squeeze in some time today. He'll come more often once things are going smoothly at work.
He had come prepared; he knew that without the Du family, Du Yuhan wouldn't forgive him anytime soon, and he'd feel better if he got beaten up. Unfortunately, his mother-in-law stopped hitting him after a couple of times when he didn't flinch, and simply pushed him out of the yard.
However, he will slowly try to win their forgiveness.
Du Haifeng watched as the tall, handsome man who called himself his brother-in-law got into his car and drove away with a sorrowful and dejected expression, leaving a pile of things at the door.
He rushed home and told his parents that he didn't know what to do with these things.
Du Yuhan watched with a sigh of relief as Han Yixian's car left Laohewan Village from a secluded spot in the Liang family's courtyard.
Her feelings were complicated. She didn't understand why Han Yixian was calling himself the Du family's son-in-law. Wasn't he engaged to someone else? Hadn't he already made things clear to her? What did he mean by doing this now?
Du Lianqiao and his wife looked at the pile of things at the door, and then at the road where there were no cars in sight. They knew that these things would not be taken back for the time being, so they had no choice but to take them all inside.
It's not good to leave it outside and let people see it.
After putting away the things Han Yixian brought, Du Lianqiao and his wife went to the Liang family to find Du Yuhan.
Du Lianqiao said, "Xiaohan, Han Yi said he's been transferred to City C and will be working there from now on. He also told us to contact him if we need any help at home. He said he'll come often. He left his address and phone number, along with a whole bunch of stuff. What do you think we should do with this?"
Du Yuhan said, "Since it was given to our family by him, you should keep it. If he comes again next time, just talk to him and tell him not to send anything again."
Wang Yuqiao said worriedly, "Xiaohan, what if Han Yixian comes to our village often and runs into you one day?"
Du Yuhan said, "He must be very busy with work, he doesn't have time to come here all the time. I'll just keep an eye on things. I'll also ask my three younger brothers to keep an eye on things too."
Even if we do run into each other someday, it's no big deal. I have nothing to do with him anymore, and he can't do anything to me. You and Dad don't need to worry too much.
