Han Yixian wasn't angry at all after Du Yuhan scolded him; instead, he chuckled and said, "Thank you, Yuhan. Thank you for believing me. I heard that you mostly replaced the things you gave Gu Qishen with antiques and calligraphy. Do you like those things?"
Du Yuhan said, "I really like them. They are the cultural heritage of our ancestors, but a lot of them were destroyed during the war and looted by invaders. People don't value them now. It's hard to imagine how much of these ancient wisdom will remain in the future. I just want to leave behind more of these things that symbolize ancient culture."
Han Yixian nodded and said, "In the past, during the years of war, our country did lose a lot of antiques and cultural relics. Not many people in our country had the awareness to protect them. Now, in these years of famine, they are even less valuable. If you want, I can collect some for you."
Du Yuhan said, "Then I won't take yours for nothing. I'll trade you something. Food, fertilizer, or other supplies."
Han Yixian sighed helplessly after hearing Du Yuhan's words and said, "Yuhan, do you really want to be so clear about things with me? Even if you don't plan to accept me anymore, aren't we still friends?"
Du Yuhan said, "Even close brothers keep clear accounts. We're friends, so I can't let you suffer a loss. They certainly won't give you the antiques for free, right? I can't expect you to do my work and spend money just because I like antiques. If you agree, then do as I say; if you don't, then forget it."
Looking at Du Yuhan's determined expression, Han Yixian said helplessly, "Fine, I agree. But is the person who provides you with these things reliable? Is there any danger?"
Du Yuhan replied, "You can rest assured about that. Apart from not being able to appear in public, they are very reliable in every other way."
Du Yuhan quickly made the fried sauce, fried some Sichuan peppercorn oil, mixed some sesame paste, and picked cucumbers and cilantro from the vegetable garden in the backyard and chopped them up as side dishes.
With no outsiders present, Han Yixian became even more unceremonious, grabbing his bowl of noodles and starting to eat heartily.
Han Yixian felt that the most leisurely and happy time of his life so far was the period when he lived in the courtyard in Luancheng.
With Du Yuhan by his side every day, he felt like he had no worries at all. He enjoyed the delicious food Du Yuhan cooked and her meticulous care every day; he was truly happy then.
They were having dinner when Liang Shouzheng arrived at Du Yuhan's house with a man in tow.
Upon seeing the newcomer, Du Yuhan exclaimed with delight, "Bowen, what brings you here? How did you find this place?"
The person who arrived was Jiang Bowen.
He saw Du Yuhan and said happily, "Sister Xiaohan, I've been hired by the tractor factory. I wanted to tell you this good news, but I didn't know where you lived, and you haven't visited my home in a long time. I remember you said you were a village doctor in Laohewan Village, Xihe Township, Fu'an County, so I came to find you on a whim. Luckily, I found you smoothly."
Du Yuhan quickly pulled Jiang Bowen to sit down, poured him a glass of water, and asked, "How did you get here?"
Jiang Bowen replied, "I came by bicycle."
Upon hearing this, Du Yuhan said, "It will take several hours to get there, right?"
Jiang Bowen nodded and said, "It took me more than three hours to ride fast."
Du Yuhan asked, "Are you hungry? I'll go cook you some noodles. Drink some water and rest first."
Jiang Bowen said apologetically, "Sister Xiaohan, don't bother, I'm not hungry."
Jiang Bowen's stomach rumbled as soon as he finished speaking.
Du Yuhan laughed and said, "You're being too polite with me. Wait here, I'll go cook for you. Uncle Liang, have you had lunch yet? Why don't you eat here?"
Han Yixian also said, "Yes, Uncle Liang, we just ate too, please eat here."
Liang Shouzhen said, "I've already eaten. Alright, I'll head back now that I've delivered the person. You guys go ahead with your business."
After saying that, Liang Shouzhen went home for a nap; he still had to work in the fields that afternoon. He was also curious about who the boy who came to see Yuhan was, but now wasn't the time to ask. He would ask Yuhan properly later.
Han Yixian looked at the somewhat shy, handsome young man in front of him and asked, "Yuhan, who is this?"
Du Yuhan introduced, "This is a younger brother I recently adopted, named Jiang Bowen. Bowen, this is Han Yixian, Brother Han."
Jiang Bowen quickly greeted him, saying, "Hello, Brother Han."
Du Yuhan said, "Bowen, sit down and rest, have some water. I'll cook the noodles in a bit. Brother Han, please keep Bowen company and talk to him."
After saying that, Du Yuhan went to the kitchen to knead the dough and cook noodles.
Han Yixian noticed that Du Yuhan seemed quite familiar with the boy in front of her, and her attitude was very friendly. He couldn't help but feel a little uneasy; when had Yuhan met this boy? He'd never heard of him before.
Judging from the boy's appearance, he should be around the same age as Yuhan. Even if he calls Yuhan "sister," he shouldn't be much younger than her.
How long have they known each other? How familiar are they?
Han Yixian stopped eating and sat on the sofa to chat with Jiang Bowen, subtly trying to get information out of him. He needed to find out the background of this suddenly appearing young man.
Jiang Bowen was no match for Han Yixian, and Han Yixian quickly figured out his strengths and weaknesses.
Han Yixian learned that Jiang Bowen and Yu Han hadn't known each other for long, but from Jiang Bowen's words, he could tell that they were already quite familiar with each other.
Moreover, Du Yuhan has helped the Jiang family a lot. This is not like Du Yuhan at all.
Yuhan would never go to such lengths to help a stranger so easily; there must be some reason.
Han Yixian couldn't help but feel a sense of crisis.
Jiang Bowen was handsome and refined, with a scholarly air about him. He looked clean and pure, clearly a very well-mannered person. His family must have been a scholarly family.
Moreover, Jiang Bowen is simple-minded and sincere, and should be a very likable person.
He wondered if Yuhan would like a guy like that.
He could tell from Du Yuhan's behavior that she liked this boy very much, but whether there were any romantic feelings between them remained to be seen.
He had just dealt with Gu Qishen and thought that dealing with Huo Xicheng would be enough, but then Jiang Bowen suddenly appeared, which was really a headache.
Although Jiang Bowen is younger than Du Yuhan, who can guarantee that Du Yuhan won't like him?
Du Yuhan quickly cooked the noodles.
Du Yuhan quickly called to Jiang Bowen, saying, "Bowen, come and eat. You must be starving after all this morning. What are you doing coming all this way? I was planning to go back to the city to visit you guys in a few days."
Jiang Bowen said, "I passed the exam for the tractor factory and I'll be reporting for duty in a couple of days. I just wanted to tell you this good news. My grandfather also asked me to come and see you, and he also asked me to bring you two things."
Du Yuhan said, "We'll look at the food later, let's eat first."
As she spoke, she pulled Jiang Bowen to sit down at the dining table.
