Chapter 567 Preparing for Winter (shuhaige.net)

After He Yuhan took care of everyone's health, the He family returned to the compound.

As the weather gets colder day by day, He Yuhan has already begun preparing for winter. Since the quilts have covers, they don't need to be washed; only the covers need to be washed. He Yuhan and her mother-in-law washed and remade the winter coats they would wear.

Little Xurui has grown quite a bit; the chubby little guy is very cute. He inherited his parents' good looks, so he'll definitely be a good-looking child when he grows up.

He Yuhan made a cotton-padded coat and inner clothes for her son. Because the child would be wearing open-crotch pants, He Yuhan made two cotton pads to tie around his waist, commonly known as "butt curtains," to keep him warm, so that his bottom would be protected whether he was standing or sitting.

The child can eat quite a lot now, and He Yuhan has started to enrich the child's diet. The little guy's favorite food is the meat porridge that He Yuhan makes, and he waits for his mother and grandmother to feed him whenever he's hungry.

The little guy is very active every day, and he loves to climb on his great-uncle, letting his great-uncle and grandma run around. But his favorite person is still his mother; as long as his mother is around, he won't look for anyone else.

Although He Yuhan doesn't have a regular job, she still has a lot to do, spending a significant amount of time working in her study every day. The little guy seems to know that his mother can't always be with him, so he doesn't cry when his mother hands him over to his great-uncle and grandmother.

He Yuhan thought her son was so obedient; it would be nice to have a few more children like him.

Han Yixian started stocking up on firewood and coal for his house. He needed coal for heating throughout the winter, so he had to prepare as early as possible. He also needed to prepare some for his cousin next door.

It's getting cold, and with children and elderly people at home, we need to turn on the heating stove in advance since it's our own.

When He Yuhan woke up in the morning, she saw that the weather was a bit gloomy and the temperature had dropped quite a bit.

She boiled some water to wash her face, then instructed Han Yixian, "Brother Yi, I think it's getting cold, let's turn on the heating. That way it will be more convenient to use hot water."

Han Yi nodded and said, "I fixed the heating system a couple of days ago, and I'll turn it on in a bit."

He Yuhan said, "I'll go see if they sell mutton later. I'll make some mutton soup tonight to warm myself up. I'll invite Qihua and Yuting over for dinner tonight, and I'll also invite Brother Gu over."

Han Yi nodded and said, "Okay, I'm going to see Qi Shen today anyway, I'll tell him while I'm at it."

Han Yixian quickly lit the stove, and Wen Jinyu helped He Yuhan prepare breakfast.

For breakfast, He Yuhan cooked a pot of corn porridge, heated up the steamed buns from yesterday, stir-fried a plate of eggs and a plate of stir-fried cabbage with vinegar, prepared some of her own pickled vegetables with sesame oil, and had a bowl of kimchi.

The child was given a bowl of steamed egg custard, but the little one was still asleep, so the custard was kept warm in the pot.

Such a lavish breakfast is probably the only one you'd find in the entire city of C.

Han Xiao and Liu Zhongyi would exercise in the yard, then wash up and have breakfast.

Everyone loves He Yuhan's kimchi. A whole bowl of kimchi is always finished in one meal.

Liu Zhongyi took a bite of the kimchi and said, "Yuhan's kimchi-making skills are amazing. Just eating this kimchi alone is enough to make you eat several big steamed buns. It's also delicious with this big pot of cornmeal porridge."

Han Xiao nodded and smiled, "You know what, I crave this kimchi if I don't eat it for two meals now. And these pickled vegetables are also very good."

Wen Jinyu said, "That's right. Don't underestimate these pickled vegetables. Yuhan used a lot of good ingredients to pickle them."

He Yuhan served Han Yixian a bowl of porridge and said with a smile, "These pickled vegetables and kimchi go best with corn porridge or rice porridge. These things are not difficult to make and can be stored for a long time. In winter, when there are fewer vegetables, these pickled vegetables occupy a very important place on the dinner table."

In the fall, we pickle some leftover vegetables from the garden; if done well, it will last us all winter.

Wen Jinyu said, "I see that everyone here knows how to make kimchi, but they are far inferior to Yuhan's. Yuhan's kimchi is made with special ingredients, including apples and pears. Ordinary people don't have that kind of means."

Everyone enjoyed breakfast to the fullest. After breakfast, Han Yixian and his father went to work together.

He Yuhan watched as the weather grew increasingly gloomy and the temperature dropped, wondering if it might snow.

After tidying up, He Yuhan said goodbye to her mother-in-law and rode her bicycle out. She bought some things at the department store and grocery store, and then took out two pieces of pork belly and two pieces of mutton from her spatial storage when no one was around.

Not only that, she also took out several large pork bones to make soup, and a few lamb bones as well. Besides meat, there was a basket of eggs, milk candy and biscuits for the children, two bags of milk powder, and a package of cakes.

He Yuhan did not go straight home, but instead went to her parents' home.

As soon as she entered the door, Gu Huayang and He Haobo called out, "Auntie!" and then ran over to greet her.

He Yuhan looked at the two little ones clinging to her legs and smiled, "Did you miss your auntie?"

The two children replied together, "Yes."

He Yuhan put the basket on the ground, took out a bag of milk candy from her backpack, and gave each of the two little ones two pieces of milk candy.

The two children were very polite. "Thank you, Auntie," they said, and then put a piece of candy in their mouths.

They always knew that the milk candy their aunt gave them was the best milk candy.

Yu Huiru was overjoyed to see her daughter. "I bought them food again. These two little ones have been looking forward to your visit. They've been talking about you several times today. They know you always bring them treats whenever you come."

He Yuhan smiled and said, "Kids just want to eat good food, right? Mom, it's getting cold, so I bought some meat. I'll share some with you."
