Chapter 569 Illness

Today is a day off, so Han Xiao and Han Yixian don't have to go to work, and everyone got up a little later.

When Han Yixian woke up in the morning, he knew that his wife was tired from the night before. He didn't disturb He Yuhan, who was sleeping soundly. He tucked her in and quietly got up.

The thick curtains were drawn, making the room dimly lit and obscuring the fact that it was already daylight outside. So, it did not disturb He Yuhan's sleep at all.

The heating stove had been sealed off overnight, and the water in the heating pipes had gone cold, making the room icy. Han Yi first turned on the stove to get the fire burning brightly, hoping to warm the room and provide hot water for everyone to wash up later.

He went to the coal shed in the backyard to get some coal. When he opened the back door, he saw a vast expanse of white outside. The rooftops seemed to be covered with a thick, white quilt. Everything was covered in silver, and the air was especially fresh because of the snow that had fallen all night. The world seemed to have become much cleaner.

Seeing such heavy snow, Han Yixian thought to himself that if there were more snowfalls this winter, next year might not be so dry.

After getting a bucket of coal, Han Yixian brought some firewood from the backyard and started cooking in a large pot.

For breakfast, Han Yi first steamed a pot of unleavened rolls, and also cooked rice porridge in the pot. For vegetables, he stir-fried some spicy and sour cabbage, a plate of scrambled eggs, and the indispensable kimchi.

Older people tend to sleep less, and Wen Jinyu got up early as well. Seeing her son cooking, she understood what was going on, but didn't say anything. She helped Han Yixian cook as well.

Han Xiao and Liu Zhongyi also got up and went outside to shovel snow. After they finished shoveling snow, they could have breakfast.

Han Yi cooked first, and Wen Jinyu took some time to chop some cabbage, mix it with some chicken feed, and feed the chicken.

This year, we planted a lot of Chinese cabbages. In winter, besides eating them, the chickens also need to eat them. We peel off the outer cabbage leaves, chop them up, mix them with bran and chaff, and stir them with hot water. The chickens especially love to eat it.

Thanks to He Yuhan's cheating, all the vegetables planted at home grew exceptionally well. The Chinese cabbages were much larger than ordinary ones, the radishes were as big as a person's head, the white radishes and carrots were thick and long, and the onions and potatoes were much larger than an adult's fist. In short, the Han family's backyard, which was already quite large, yielded a lot of vegetables that could be stored for the winter in late autumn and early winter.

Hens usually stop laying eggs when the weather gets cold, but He Yuhan's cabbages were secretly watered with spring water. Feeding them to the chickens ensured that the hens wouldn't reduce their egg production even in winter, so the family usually didn't lack eggs.

Meat can't be eaten every day, but to ensure nutrition, He Yuhan makes eggs every day.

He Yuhan was woken up by her son. When she opened her eyes, she saw her son climbing on top of her and giggling when he saw that she was awake.

He Yuhan felt aches all over her body, as if she had been run over by a car. Her stomach also ached, her throat hurt, and she felt dizzy. She felt very unwell and was about to get up when Han Yixian came in.

When Han Yixian saw that his son was awake, he opened the curtains a little to let the room be brighter, and then quickly came over to dress his son.

Seeing his wife's tired and pale face, he regretted his lack of restraint last night and said with heartache, "Yuhan, you don't look well. Don't get up, go back to sleep for a while."

He Yuhan was very listless and really didn't want to get up. She said in a slightly hoarse voice, "It's all your fault. I feel weak all over and very uncomfortable. I'll lie down for a while longer."

In order not to disturb his wife's rest, Han Yi quickly dressed his son and carried him out of the room to hand him over to the child's grandmother.

He Yuhan didn't get up to eat breakfast, and everyone knew perfectly well that she hadn't asked her why she hadn't gotten up to eat, for fear of embarrassing Han Yixian.

After breakfast, Han Yixian, still worried about He Yuhan, went back to the room and found her asleep again. He noticed that her face was no longer pale, but when he touched it, her complexion changed drastically because she had a fever.

This made Han Yixian a little anxious, because He Yuhan rarely got sick, so why did she suddenly develop a fever?

He quickly found the thermometer at home and took He Yuhan's temperature, which was already 38.5 degrees Celsius.

Han Yixian quickly came out of the room and saw his mother comforting the child. He said, "Mom, do we have any fever reducers? Yuhan has a fever."

The elders sitting in the living room, playing with the child, were all taken aback. Wen Jinyu asked, "Why does Yuhan have a fever? Did you take her temperature?"

Han Yixian said, "I measured it, it's 38.5 degrees."

Upon hearing this, Wen Jinyu frowned and said, "That's quite high. Yuhan has almost never been sick, so why is she running a fever? I'll find some fever reducer for you and give it to Yuhan right away. First, steam a bowl of egg custard for Yuhan so she can eat something before taking the medicine. The medicine is irritating to the stomach, so it's best for her to eat something first."

Upon hearing this, Han Yixian quickly lit the kerosene stove and used a small pot to steam egg custard for He Yuhan.

After the steamed egg custard cooled down, Han Yi poured some sesame oil into it, then took the bowl and went back to his room.

He placed the kang table on the kang, put the bowl on the kang table, and then helped the dazed He Yuhan up. "Yuhan, come here, I steamed a bowl of egg custard for you. Eat some before you take your medicine."

He Yuhan felt dizzy and her whole body ached; she knew she was sick. She slightly opened her eyes and saw herself leaning against her husband, who was holding a bowl of steamed egg custard in one hand and a spoon in the other, about to feed her.

He Yuhan really didn't want to move and had no appetite, but she knew she needed to eat something before taking her medicine, so she ate some steamed egg custard from Han Yixian's hand.

After eating half a bowl, He Yuhan really couldn't eat anymore; she felt acid rising in her stomach. She shook her head and said, "I can't eat anymore, I can't eat anymore."

Han Yixian was very worried when he saw that his sickly wife had only eaten so little. He put down the bowl and gave He Yuhan some fever-reducing medicine.

Wen Jinyu came into the room and took He Yuhan's pulse. She knew that her daughter-in-law had a combination of cold and heat, and her body was still a bit weak. She had a problem and needed to take good care of herself.

He Yuhan felt dizzy and disoriented, as if she couldn't remember anything and just wanted to sleep.

Wen Jinyu glanced at her daughter-in-law's dark circles under her eyes, glared at her son, and whispered, "You don't even know how to control yourself. Look how you've made Yuhan sick."

Knowing he was in the wrong, Han Yixian touched his nose guiltily and whispered, "Mom, is Yuhan alright?"

Wen Jinyu said, "I'll write a prescription in a bit, and you go get some medicine. Yuhan has been suppressing her inner fire for a long time, and now it's come out. She's also caught a bit of a cold, and her body can't handle it, so she's going to get sick."

Han Yi first covered his wife with the blanket and then left the bedroom with his mother.

In the living room, Han Xiao and Liu Zhongyi saw Wen Jinyu come out and quickly asked about He Yuhan's condition. Everyone was very worried about He Yuhan, who had almost never been sick.

Wen Jinyu sighed and said, "Yuhan was upset about her accident a while ago, and lately she's been worrying about all sorts of things at home, so her health has taken a turn for the worse. She needs to take good care of herself."

Han Yixian felt extremely guilty after hearing his mother's words. His wife had always suffered because of him and had hardly ever thought about any happiness. Now, someone as healthy as her had fallen ill. Thinking of He Yuhan's sickly appearance earlier, his heart ached terribly.
