Han Xiao looked at the contents of the book, unwilling to believe it yet forced to. He knew that anything He Yuhan produced could not be fake. Moreover, many things written in the book were things that ordinary people could never know; only those at a certain level could access them, yet the book described them clearly.
After reading this book, he understood many things he had only a little bit of before, and when he connected them with his previous knowledge, everything became clear.
The contents of the latter half of the book terrified him; if these things were to actually happen, many people would be affected.
Even the Han family probably couldn't escape it. The Han family's background was too conspicuous. Fortunately, he made arrangements for all the houses in the family and was transferred to City C, leaving the vortex of Kyoto.
But even that's not enough; he needs to think carefully about what to do.
And then there's the He family; if things continue like this, they'll also be affected. Since the two families are now in a position of shared destiny, he needs to discuss it with He Chenglin.
Han Yixian slept until almost noon before waking up. He went to the kitchen and saw his wife and mother making dumplings. Dumplings are delicious; he loves dumplings, especially the ones his wife makes.
Han Yi washed his hands and came over to help roll out the dumpling wrappers, saying, "These pork dumplings look delicious. I could eat two plates of these thin-skinned, generously filled dumplings."
Wen Jinyu said, "Yuhan knows you love dumplings, so she specially made extra filling so you can eat to your heart's content."
At this moment, Han Xiao came out of the study and went to the kitchen, saying, "Yuhan, make more dumplings. I'll have your dad come over for lunch, and we'll discuss something this afternoon."
He Yuhan immediately understood her father-in-law's meaning; they wanted to discuss future plans, and as the head of the He family, her father certainly had to attend.
He Yuhan said, "Then Dad, why don't you call my dad?"
Han Xiao nodded and went to make a phone call. Han Yixian and He Yuhan exchanged a glance, knowing that a family meeting was scheduled for the afternoon.
Han Xiao called He Chenglin and said, "Hey, Lao He, I have something important to discuss with you this afternoon. Come over for lunch."
He Chenglin was curious about what important matter his in-laws had that made them so solemn, but he didn't ask any more questions over the phone, saying, "Okay, I'll be right there."
He Chenglin arrived just as the plump, white dumplings with their thin skins and generous fillings were coming out of the pot.
Han Xiao quickly said, "Why are you so late? Go wash your hands and eat dumplings."
He Chenglin said, "It snowed so heavily yesterday, the snow on the ground is too thick, and it's very inconvenient to go out. I've been organizing snow removal all morning."
Han Xiao said, "Luckily, the snow stopped today, otherwise it would have turned into a snow disaster, which would have been a real problem."
He Chenglin said, "I don't think this is going to be enough. This year the snow came early and so heavily, I'm afraid many families haven't made any preparations for the cold."
Han Yi first prepared dipping sauces such as minced garlic, vinegar, and sesame oil, and then everyone sat around the table to eat the delicious dumplings.
Xiao Xurui hasn't taken his afternoon nap yet, but he's already eaten more than half a bowl of steamed egg custard. He's lying in his stroller now, playing by himself while watching the adults eat. He's not crying or fussing; he's very well-behaved.
After lunch, Liu Zhongyi coaxed Xiao Xurui to take a nap, while Wen Jinyu cleared the table.
He Yuhan and Han Yixian offered to help, but Wen Jinyu said, "You two go ahead and do your work. I can handle this little bit of work."
Finally, He Yuhan brewed a pot of tea and went into her father-in-law's small study with Han Yixian.
He Yuhan entered the study and closed the door. She saw her father reading the book she had given to Han Yixian earlier. She did not disturb her father's reading and first poured everyone a cup of tea.
To save time, Han Xiao pointed out some important content directly to He Chenglin, and said the rest could be looked at later.
He Chenglin felt his head buzzing as he looked at what Han Xiao was showing him, as if thunder was crashing inside.
What he saw was utterly unbelievable. But his in-laws told him that his daughter had taken it out, that she had taken it from her treasures. So even with such unbelievable content, he didn't doubt its authenticity.
My daughter would never joke about something so important. If the contents of this book weren't so important, she wouldn't have risked taking it out.
The more he read the book, the more his heart sank. This was nothing short of a disaster. Could they survive? Would they also be swept away by the tides of history? He dared not even think about the future.
After reading what Han Xiao had shown him, He Chenglin looked up and asked, "Have you all read what's on this?"
Han Xiao said, "We've all seen it, which is why we quickly called you here to discuss it together."
He Chenglin frowned and said, "If the situation really develops as described in this book, then it will be a real problem. With our family backgrounds, we will inevitably be affected. We need to prepare in advance."
Han Xiao nodded heavily and said, "Yes, we need to make preparations as soon as possible."
He Chenglin looked at his daughter and son-in-law and said, "Yixian, Yuhan, what are your plans?"
Han Yixian said, "I think the first thing our two families should do is to reduce our visibility. No matter how big a family is, it cannot withstand the torrent of history. Moreover, the larger the family, the more it will be affected in the future. It would be better for us to break up into smaller groups and go into hiding."
Han Xiao nodded after hearing his son's idea and said, "That makes sense. The Han family and the He family have completely withdrawn from Kyoto, but we are still too conspicuous in City C. I've decided to retire next year and live a secluded life, completely disappearing from people's sight. After a few years, no one will remember me."
He Chenglin nodded and said, "Then I will retire next year. I will use my poor health as an excuse. I had tuberculosis before, so I will say that my health has not recovered. I should be able to retire directly without anyone stopping me."
