It's already past the first month of the lunar calendar, and temperatures in the south are rising rapidly, with spring plowing beginning in many places. Temperatures in the north are still gradually warming up, but the further north you go, the lower the temperature gets. The northeastern region is still quite cold, so He Yuhan is wearing a thick down coat.
He Yuhan lay on the upper bunk, thinking that the fields in City C were probably still covered in snow, and spring plowing would be a long time away. She estimated that by the time her whole family left City C, it wouldn't be time for spring plowing yet.
When she gets back, she needs to visit her adoptive parents in Laohewan to leave them some things and money. After that, she'll have to mail things to them, which is very inconvenient.
He Yuhan turned to look at Zhou Zhengye, who was sitting on the lower bunk opposite her reading a book, and felt a mix of emotions. From their conversation, she learned that Zhou Zhengye was already married. She wondered if the woman he married in this life was the same one from his past life. If it was, then Zhou Zhengye was in for a rough time.
In her previous life, she only learned about Zhou Zhengye's second marriage after returning to China; it was a chaotic and tumultuous affair. His wife was described as extremely difficult, narrow-minded, and domineering. She had never given Zhou Zhengye a child, so their relationship was said to be very cold.
Although that woman came from a good family, it wasn't as prestigious as the Zhou family. It's unclear why Zhou Zhengye didn't divorce her. Even as they grew older, they remained separated but maintained a marital relationship.
He Yuhan couldn't understand Zhou Zhengye's mentality. Didn't he want his own children? Yet, in her past life, when Zhou Zhengye heard that he had another son and several grandsons, he excitedly came to her to confirm it. He even begged her to let the children be recognized by their ancestors. It was clear that he also longed for children.
He Yuhan still vividly remembers Zhou Zhengye's excited expression at that time.
Even if they lose their child in this life, perhaps Zhou Zhengye will have another child.
She had long since let go of her resentment towards Zhou Zhengye and now considered him a friend. In this life, she hoped that Zhou Zhengye could live a happy life and have several children of his own.
However, the thought that he might marry that same woman made her feel a little sorry for Zhou Zhengye. She wondered if Zhou Zhengye had come to such a remote place as H City to get away from that woman; otherwise, why would he leave his comfortable life in Kyoto and come to such a place?
However, even if He Yuhan was curious, she wouldn't ask too many questions. She was Han Yixian's wife in this life, and it was best for her to keep a certain distance from Zhou Zhengye.
The further north they went, the lower the temperature inside the train became, so He Yuhan put on the cotton-padded coat she had brought with her.
He Yuhan took the train to Kyoto, and then transferred to another train to City C.
He Yuhan was eager to return to City C, wishing she could be there immediately. Zhou Zhengye, however, felt the opposite. He wished the train could travel slower, so he and He Yuhan could spend more time together. Even if they didn't speak, one in the upper bunk and the other in the lower bunk, it would be fine. At least he could see her whenever he looked up.
But time will eventually pass, and we finally arrived in Kyoto.
The two got off the train together; Zhou Zhengye had arrived home, while He Yuhan was transferring trains.
Zhou Zhengye knew he couldn't let He Yuhan visit his home; otherwise, the woman in his house would cause a huge uproar and bring trouble to He Yuhan. He also figured He Yuhan wouldn't accept his invitation. So, he bought her a sleeper ticket to City C.
Zhou Zhengye waited until He Yuhan boarded the train. When he saw her off, he said, "Yuhan, please give my regards to my family. When we meet again in H City, I'll treat you and Yixian to a meal. I haven't seen Yixian in a long time, and I miss him terribly. I miss the days when we went through thick and thin together. Thinking back, those days were much more interesting."
He Yuhan said, "Don't worry, I'll bring it to you. After we settle down in H City, we'll invite you over for a visit, and then you can have a good chat."
The train was about to depart, and Zhou Zhengye said reluctantly, "Hurry up and get on the train. Be careful on the road."
He Yuhan nodded, said goodbye, and boarded the train, letting out a sigh of relief. Although Zhou Zhengye's eyes were well-concealed, they still revealed a lot of emotion, making He Yuhan feel wary and heavy-hearted. She didn't want Zhou Zhengye to have any other feelings for her, as that would affect the friendship between Zhou Zhengye and Han Yixian, something she didn't want to see.
Zhou Zhengye watched the train slowly start moving, his gaze fixed on it, as if he could see He Yuhan's figure in the distance. Only when the train disappeared from sight did he withdraw his following gaze.
He knew that it would be extremely difficult to have another opportunity to spend time with He Yuhan like this. He would cherish this wonderful trip in his heart.
He slowly turned around and walked out of the train station, then went to the bus station to take a bus home.
He now harbors a strong, subconscious aversion to his home in Kyoto; he doesn't want to go home. He wouldn't have returned if his mother hadn't fallen ill.
Our home is no longer as warm and peaceful as it used to be. Now, my younger brother is married, and my younger sister is still unmarried. They say three women make a drama, and the women in the family are always at odds with each other, especially their wives.
His mother fell ill because of her daughters-in-law. There might be some changes at home this time he returns. He heard his father's idea was to separate all the sons and let them live separately, to avoid them all living together and causing trouble and upsetting the elders.
Zhou Zhengye felt very agitated thinking about his family. If everyone moved out and lived separately, would his family ask his wife to come with him to H City? What would be the point of him traveling from Beijing to the remote H City then?
He had to prevent this from happening. He had to at least keep that woman in Kyoto. If she came with him to H City, his life there would be even more chaotic. That woman would offend everyone, and he'd have to clean up her messes. He absolutely wouldn't allow her to go to H City with him.
He Yuhan was unaware of Zhou Zhengye's inner turmoil. As they drew closer to City C, her mood improved. She wondered if her son still recognized her. She missed him terribly, and even more so, she missed Han Yixian.
The train finally pulled into the C City train station, and He Yuhan, carrying her simple luggage, prepared to disembark. She had called Han Yixian before boarding the train in Kyoto, wondering if he would come to pick her up.
Not long after getting off the train, He Yuhan saw Han Yixian running towards her, and she happily greeted him.
Han Yixian quickly ran up to He Yuhan and said happily, "Wife, welcome home."
Then Han Yixian suddenly leaned over and whispered in He Yuhan's ear, "I missed you so much."
He Yuhan blushed and whispered, "Let's be mindful of our behavior outside. Let's go home quickly, I miss my son."
Han Yixian said, "Then you don't miss me?"
He Yuhan glared at Han Yixian and said, "Tell me if I miss you or not. I miss you the most, is that alright?"
Upon hearing this, Han Yixian squinted and smiled contentedly. He knew his wife missed him too, and that she had said she missed him the most, even before their son.
He Yuhan had no idea that Han Yixian would have such childish thoughts; she just wanted to get home and see her son as soon as possible.
The two received a warm welcome from their families upon returning home. Everyone had missed He Yuhan dearly after being away for two months.
