Chapter 739 A Fulfilling Day

Compared to Mu Yu and Wei Shuhong, Fan Yuling was not so fortunate. Without her teaching job, she had to work in the fields with the villagers.

When Fan Yuling went back to work in the fields, she realized how easy her job as a teacher was. Every day she worked alongside the women, doing the village's less strenuous tasks, but even so, she felt exhausted every day and always wanted to slack off and rest for a while, but there wasn't much work to be done.

The women in the village didn't have a good impression of Fan Yuling to begin with. They wouldn't tolerate her being lazy, so they complained to the village's points clerk. Naturally, Fan Yuling didn't earn many points, only slightly better than the teenagers.

Fan Yuling argued back several times, but the other party wouldn't tolerate it. The scorekeeper couldn't possibly be lenient; everyone was watching. If he dared to let Fan Yuling off the hook, a whole bunch of people would be waiting for him. He could only handle the matter impartially.

Besides, he didn't like Fan Yuling. Everyone else could do it, so why couldn't she? She was so spoiled and pampered. She deserved to be replaced because she didn't do a good job as a teacher.

No one in the village sympathized with Fan Yuling. Only a few male educated youths at the settlement took care of her somewhat, such as helping her with cooking.

Everyone felt that Fan Yuling's cooking was really terrible; it was barely cooked through, and it was already a miracle that they weren't forced to eat raw rice.

The male comrades didn't mind too much, mainly because Fan Yuling was a woman and they rarely spent time together except for mealtimes. But Mu Yu and Wei Shuhong were different. Except when they were working, they rested in the same room, and Fan Yuling often made veiled insults in the dormitory.

If Wei Shuhong hadn't stopped her, Mu Yu would have already started fighting with Fan Yuling.

The change of teachers didn't affect the Han family. He Yuhan's work in the infirmary is much easier now, as there are always patients.

However, she often goes up the mountain to collect herbs to replenish the medicinal herbs consumed by the clinic.

He Yuhan's herbs were very effective, and the villagers trusted her medical skills and mostly asked her to prescribe herbal remedies. After all, Western medicine was hard to buy when it ran out, and its effects weren't necessarily better than herbal medicine.

Moreover, He Yuhan's herbs are very cheap, and villagers don't spend much money on a single medical visit.

People have gotten used to He Yuhan going up the mountain to collect herbs over time. He Yuhan's herb-collecting is for the benefit of everyone; with herbs available, they can save money on medical expenses. Therefore, everyone supports He Yuhan's herb-collecting.

No one would think that He Yuhan's job as a village doctor was easy. After all, going into the mountains to collect medicinal herbs is tiring and can be quite dangerous.

He Yuhan usually doesn't go deep into the mountains to collect herbs, and her family doesn't allow it either. She only goes deep into the mountains when Han Yixian accompanies her.

He Yuhan always brought back wild game whenever she went into the mountains to collect herbs. Her family often had fresh pheasants and rabbits to eat.

The Han family's meals were undoubtedly the best in Beili Village. This was because the Han family lived relatively far from most of the villagers' homes, so they could prepare delicious food without being noticed.

Even if it happens once or twice, it's not a big deal. After all, everyone knows that Han Yixian is a skilled hunter, so it's not surprising that his family has wild game to eat.

Several villagers in Beili Village are skilled hunters, and they often set traps to catch wild rabbits to improve their lives.

That's life in the mountains; as long as you're diligent, you can still get food.

When He Yuhan woke up in the morning, she saw that her youngest son was still asleep, so she quietly got up. As soon as she moved, Han Yixian woke up and got up as well. He had to help his wife make breakfast.

He Yuhan said softly, "You work so hard in the fields every day, sleep a little longer. I can make breakfast myself. Besides, Mom is here."

Han Yixian continued dressing and said, "I can't sleep anyway, so I'll get up and help you."

The couple quietly got dressed and left the room.

The elderly people don't need much sleep, so Wen Jinyu, Han Xiao, and the others got up as well.

Han Xiao and Liu Zhongyi were practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard, while Wen Jinyu went into the kitchen.

Seeing her son and daughter-in-law come over to make breakfast, Wen Jinyu said, "I can make breakfast. You young people need to sleep more, so sleep a little longer and get up later."

He Yuhan said, "I go to bed early at night and wake up early in the morning. I can't fall back asleep if I don't get up, so I might as well get up and make breakfast with you so it will be faster."

Cooking for this whole family isn't easy. How could I let you cook for yourself?

Han Yixian had already carried the firewood into the kitchen. He sat down, lit the fire, and said, "Mom, Yuhan and I are here. You go and rest."

Wen Jinyu said, "I haven't started working yet, why are you resting? I'll go pick some vegetables for dipping. Yuhan's soybean paste is really fragrant, it's especially delicious when dipped in cucumber, scallions, and lettuce."

He Yuhan said, "Mom, could you pick some chili peppers and cilantro while you're at it, and also pull up a few scallions? We can make some tiger salad later, and also stir-fry some scallion and egg."

I'll cook some corn porridge first, then make some pancakes. Pancakes are filling, so Brother Yi and the others won't get hungry easily when they're working in the fields.

Wen Jinyu nodded and said, "Okay, I'll go right away. I'll also pick some wild vegetables to mix with the chicken feed."

According to policy, the Han family could only raise three hens per person, but Wen Jinyu took good care of these three hens. Every day, she would chop fresh wild vegetables and mix them with bran to make chicken feed that the hens loved to eat, so they naturally laid more eggs.

Wen Jinyu was also counting on the eggs laid by these three hens to provide nutrition for her family. Especially her grandson, who was only a little over a year old, eggs were the most suitable food for him, as they were nutritious and easy to digest.

However, the Han family was not lacking in nutrition at all. Not to mention anything else, He Yuhan and Han Yixian would go hunting in the mountains from time to time, so the Han family never lacked meat. The children in the family were all well-fed and strong.
