Chapter Forty Massage

Without waiting for Liu Gang to finish washing up, Du Yuhan went to Han Yixian's room to find him. "Brother Han, let me give you a massage now."

Han Yixian looked at Du Yuhan's rosy face and said, "You just came back carrying a basket of walnuts and have been busy for half a day. Take a rest first. There's no rush for a massage."

Du Yuhan shook her head and said, "I'm not tired, I can give you a massage without any problem."

Seeing that Du Yuhan insisted, Han Yixian did not refuse again. He turned his wheelchair to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), put his hands on the edge of the kang, and with a push of his arms, he sat down on the kang. Then, as Du Yuhan asked, he lay down next to the edge of the kang.

Du Yuhan began massaging Han Yixian's legs through his clothes and asked him if he could feel anything.

Han Yixian has sensation above his knees, but no sensation below his knees.

The doctors initially wanted to amputate Han Yixian's leg so that he could walk upright with a prosthesis, but Han Yixian refused to agree.

Even if he were fitted with a prosthetic leg and could walk upright, he would never be able to return to the army. So, whether he could walk upright or not would make no difference to him. Besides, Han Yixian still held a sliver of hope that his leg could be healed. If he were to have it amputated, then there would be no hope at all.

Now Du Yuhan tells him that there is still hope for his leg to be healed and for him to stand up again. He is extremely grateful for his persistence back then.

Du Yuhan knew that Han Yixian only lacked sensation below the knees, so she focused on massaging his calves to prevent muscle atrophy. However, she also needed to massage his thighs, since Han Yixian's legs had almost no movement and would still atrophy over time.

Du Yuhan first massaged Han Yixian's entire leg, and then focused on his calves.

Massage is tiring work, and she is quite small with limited strength. Soon, sweat began to bead on her forehead, but she persisted.

As Han Yi lay on his stomach, he could feel Du Yuhan massaging his thighs, which were stiff from lack of exercise, while he had no feeling in his calves.

He was actually quite uncomfortable sitting in a wheelchair every day; his back ached, and his buttocks and thighs were especially sore. Now, after Du Yuhan massaged his thighs, he felt much better.

Du Yuhan looked at Han Yixian, who was lying quietly, and asked, "Brother Han, does your back hurt from sitting in a wheelchair all day? Would you like me to massage it for you?"

Now that Han Yixian knew the benefits of massage, he didn't refuse and said, "Then I'll trouble you."

Du Yuhan knew, of course, that Han Yixian would experience back pain from sitting in a wheelchair all day, but she didn't say anything at the beginning for fear of embarrassing him. She had no choice but to proceed gradually.

Du Yuhan moved closer to Han Yi's back and began massaging the acupoints and meridians on his back.

Actually, it would be better to massage with medicated oil after taking off clothes, but this is not the open era of later generations. After all, she and Han Yixian are men and women, and they are not husband and wife, so it would be inappropriate to do that.

If others saw her, it would definitely cause a lot of gossip, and she didn't want to cause any trouble.

Du Yuhan's massage techniques were specially learned and very skillful. Soon, Han Yixian felt so comfortable under Du Yuhan's massage that he almost wanted to groan. However, he tried his best to hold back in front of Du Yuhan.

Han Yixian hadn't expected Du Yuhan to have these skills; no wonder she had studied medicine. Today was the most comfortable day he'd had since his legs became disabled.

I didn't feel it when I was able to move around freely, but now sitting in a wheelchair every day feels like torture. It's not as comfortable as the exhaustion I feel when I'm on the training field.

He really hoped that what Du Yuhan said could come true. He would be willing to shorten his lifespan if it could cure his leg.

Han Yixian's keen ears heard Du Yuhan's panting and knew she must be exhausted. Du Yuhan hadn't had a moment's rest since morning, and Han Yixian felt a little guilty.

The little girl is so young, yet she has taken on the responsibility of taking care of two grown men.

Although Liu Gang also worked, Luo Qingyan not only had to worry about things but also put in the effort, so it was naturally more arduous for her than for Liu Gang.

Han Yi raised his head slightly and said, "That's enough, you can rest for a bit. Later, you can teach Liu Gang how to massage; he's strong, so it won't be too strenuous for him."

Du Yuhan stopped the massage, breathed a sigh of relief, and said, "That's fine then. But Brother Han, you must tell Liu Gang to keep this a secret for me."

Han Yixian turned to the side and replied, "Don't worry, I will make sure to tell him well."

Du Yuhan then said, "You can feel your thighs now, but you can't feel anything below your knees. May I take a look at your calves?"

Han Yi replied, "Of course."

Du Yuhan had Han Yi turn over and lie on his back, then slowly rolled up the warehouse manager.

Han Yixian's calves were covered with scars, some of which had only recently healed and were shocking to see. Seeing these scars, one could tell how severe Han Yixian's injuries had been.

Du Yuhan's nose tingled, and a tear fell onto Han Yixian's calf. She quickly blinked hard to force back her tears.

Although Han Yixian had no feeling in his calf, he still saw the tear that fell on his calf, while Du Yuhan had glistening teardrops on her lowered eyelashes.

Han Yixian felt a mix of emotions, a warm yet slightly aching sensation, but he remained silent, saying nothing. He simply didn't know what to say.

Du Yuhan examined Han Yixian's leg with her hands and asked him how he felt. Through the examination, Du Yuhan knew that Han Yixian's tendons were torn, but the bones were not seriously damaged.

Du Yuhan's villa has a laboratory containing equipment she purchased abroad in her previous life.

She built a small laboratory to research how to perform surgery on a severed leg. The laboratory was fully equipped, and she put all the equipment into her space before returning to China.

In her spare time, she often conducted research in her space lab and performed surgeries on small animals. Later, she secretly purchased more advanced medical equipment to enrich her lab. She considered it a pleasure.

These devices will be useful for treating Han Yixian's leg later.

Du Yuhan regrets that she only systematically studied Western medicine and was only superficially knowledgeable about traditional Chinese medicine. It seems that she should study more traditional Chinese medicine in the future.

Liu Gang returned carrying materials for building a grape trellis: two small tree trunks, each thicker than an adult man's arm, both from dead saplings—Liu Gang certainly knew how to find good ones. The rest were just some thin branches, more than enough for the trellis.

Liu Gang made several trips to gather all the materials needed to build the grape trellis; it seems quite a lot of materials are required.

Liu Gang dug four small holes at the four corners of the designated spot for the grape trellis. Du Yuhan helped hold the posts, and Liu Gang buried them one by one into the holes to secure the four posts. Then he began to build the trellis on top. Du Yuhan was just helping out.

The two of them had only finished a little over half of the work before they started making dinner, and planned to continue tomorrow.
