Chapter Nineteen: Making Bows and Arrows

Seeing that Liu Gang was taking care of Han Yixian during his afternoon nap, Du Yuhan took a wood-chopping knife from the woodshed and walked out of the courtyard alone.

She needs to find some materials to make a bow and a few arrows. She doesn't need many arrows, just a few will suffice, as they are reusable.

Behind their small courtyard are rolling mountains, rich in resources.

There is a current shortage of resources; the government supplies limited amounts of grain, and even less meat, eggs, and other non-staple foods. Even people of high status cannot eat whatever they want.

Han Yixian's body needs nourishment, but the meager supplies provided by the government are simply a drop in the ocean. Nutritious food must be sourced from these mountains.

She knows many hunting methods, and although she's become a bit rusty, she can pick them up again without any problem.

Following the route she remembered, Du Yuhan found a dead mulberry tree. After careful selection, she chose a dry branch that was suitable in terms of thickness, curvature, and other aspects, and also selected several straight sticks to make arrows.

All that's missing is a hemp rope to make a simple bow and arrow.

She doesn't need a very good bow and arrow; she just needs one that can hit small prey like pheasants or rabbits that are not far away.

Moreover, given the current limited resources, we can only make do for now and wait until we have better conditions in the future.

She knew that the mountains were rich in resources and had many small game. But without a gun and some skill, it would be difficult to catch them.

Guns and ammunition are very precious these days, and it's impossible for soldiers to waste bullets on hunting. Besides, soldiers are usually busy with training and rarely leave their barracks.

Ordinary people don't have the skill to hunt with their bare hands, which is why very few people go hunting in the mountains.

Archery is one of her skills, and now it seems that this skill is very useful.

Since she has this skill, she should make use of it; their meals will depend on the bows and arrows she makes from now on.

When Du Yuhan returned to the courtyard with the materials, Liu Gang was looking for her.

Seeing Du Yuhan return with some sticks, he said, "Du Yuhan, did you go to chop firewood? You don't need to go, I'll do it. And don't go deep into the mountains, there are wolves there, it's dangerous."

Du Yuhan replied, "I'm going to find some materials by the mountainside to make a simple bow and arrow for hunting in the future."

Upon hearing this, Liu Gang's eyes lit up, and he asked excitedly, "You can also make bows and arrows? Can you do it?"

Du Yuhan nodded and made an excuse, saying, "It should be fine. I learned from the old hunters in my area. They made their own bows and arrows for hunting, and they were very effective."

They don't have any experienced hunters there; they're just trying to fool Liu Gang. Luckily, this kid is really easy to fool.

Liu Gang was even happier now, as this was related to their future food supply. If they could actually hunt some game, even just a few pheasants would be great.

The regimental commander needed nutrition, but the government's supply was a drop in the ocean, far from sufficient. The commander didn't want to use connections or seek special treatment, so his diet was truly subpar. It was, at least, far from enough for a patient.

Liu Gang took the things from Du Yuhan's hands and said, "You take the lead, and I'll help you."

The craft of making bows and arrows was actually learned by Du Yuhan from Han Yixian in her previous life. After leaving her homeland, she gradually developed her career abroad. In her spare time, she also learned archery from professionals and learned many methods of making bows and arrows.

Later, archery became a way for her to relax and de-stress during her busy work schedule.

Not only archery, she also learned to shoot and often goes to shooting clubs to practice, which is also a great way to relieve stress.

In her previous life, she never remarried, devoting all her energy to raising and educating her children and developing her career, while also pursuing several hobbies in her spare time.

Although I haven't made it myself for many years, my skills haven't deteriorated.

She often reminisces about the time she spent with Han Yixian, and she also studied what Han Yixian taught her in a more systematic and professional way.

In fact, Du Yuhan never forgot Han Yixian in her past life and always thought about returning to China to repay him.

She always remembered Han Yixian's teachings: to strive to enrich herself, because only knowledge stored in one's own mind can be kept from being taken away by others.

Even after leaving her homeland in her previous life, Du Yuhan never stopped learning.

Although she is very busy with work and taking care of her children every day, she still managed to earn several degrees, making her a typical example of someone who learns as long as she lives.

As her career grew, she needed to continuously learn and improve herself. She learned several languages, becoming quite proficient in some. She also learned a few others, but hadn't yet reached a level of mastery.

Although studying took up a lot of her free time, she also derived great enjoyment from it.

For some subjects she didn't have time to learn systematically at school, she had tutors come to her home. Perhaps because of her unique spatial abilities, she had an exceptional memory and learned things incredibly quickly. Her teachers were all amazed by her remarkable learning capacity.

Later, when the space was upgraded to level 30, a kind of ointment that could reconnect tendons and bones appeared in the space shop. This made Du Yuhan overjoyed and gave her hope of curing Han Yixian's leg.

From that time on, she began to study medicine. She had to treat Han Yixian's leg herself because she didn't want others to know about such a miraculous product as the tendon-setting and bone-setting ointment.

Du Yuhan learned traditional Chinese medicine by purchasing medical books from her space, learned to make medicinal meals to regulate her body, and then went to medical school to systematically study Western medicine, majoring in clinical medicine orthopedics.

Even Du Yuhan's son thought that his mother might quit her business and become a doctor in the future.

Du Yuhan's medical skills are quite good; she has no problem treating Han Yixian's leg.

She conducted experiments on animals with long-term leg amputations, and even secretly conducted experiments on several people who had been disabled for a long time, with very good results.

Even if Han Yixian can no longer walk briskly, as long as he can stand up and walk, it will be a huge success.

So as soon as the situation in China improved and the reform and opening up began, she returned to her motherland, hoping to get treatment for Han Yixian's leg.

However, upon returning to China, she received news that struck her like a bolt from the blue: Han Yixian had passed away.

It is said that Han Yixian was extremely thin and weak when he died. He never left his wheelchair, and his health was severely damaged by the stress.

Du Yuhan regretted not returning to China sooner, at least to prevent Han Yixian's health from collapsing and to give her time to treat her leg.

In this life, she will take good care of Han Yixian, first by improving his health, then by upgrading the farm as soon as possible, and finally by buying the bone-setting ointment from the space shop to heal Han Yixian's leg.

With her past life's experience, she was confident that she could upgrade the farm to level 30 within three to five years.

Starting today, she will have her own private space, and she can enter the farm at any time in the evening to earn experience points and upgrade the farm as soon as possible.
