Chapter Sixty-Nine: Deciding to Leave

Du Yuhan listened to her two younger brothers' words angrily and said, "The people at the old house are a bunch of vampires. The only way to get rid of them is to leave here and go somewhere they can't find us."

Wang Yuqiao wiped away her tears and said, "I also want to leave this place, and I never want to see the faces of those people in the old house again. But it's easier said than done, and where can we go?"

Du Lianqiao sighed heavily and said with a bitter face, "Now there are household registration restrictions, so even if we want to leave, we need a place to accept us. But why would anyone accept a family of outsiders like us? It's all my fault for being so incompetent."

Looking at her tearful adoptive mother and her bitter-faced adoptive father, Du Yuhan said, "Dad, Mom, if there were a chance for you to leave this place and go to a strange place, would you be willing? You know that would truly be leaving your home."

Wang Yuqiao was more resolute than Du Lianqiao. With tears in her eyes, she said firmly, "If I had such an opportunity, I would rather leave my hometown than be bullied by the people in the old house here."

They always bring up filial piety, and many people in the village act based on personal relationships. We're outnumbered and most people just want to watch the drama unfold. So even the village leaders don't care when our family is bullied; they say it's our family matter.

Du Haifeng also said, "The people in the old house are worse than strangers. They only bully us because of our kinship. Even if we were far from home and surrounded by strangers, it would be better than this. At least strangers wouldn't bully us for no reason, and we couldn't even fight back."

Du Haifeng, who was about to turn eleven, had suffered too much unfair treatment, which made him mature early and rarely experience happiness. This made Du Yuhan feel very sad.

As a father, Du Lianqiao must have felt terrible seeing his eldest son like this, as it represented his incompetence as a father.

Du Lianqiao knew that his daughter's question was definitely not something she asked casually.

He looked up at Du Yuhan and asked, "Yuhan, what do you want to say to us? Just say it. We're all family, so there's no need to hold back. Just say what you want to say."

Du Yuhan nodded and said, "Dad, Mom, I've found my biological parents."

Du Yuhan then recounted the parts of her story about meeting her biological parents.

The Du family members were stunned. Everyone felt that it was fate that brought Du Yuhan back to her biological parents.

Du Lianqiao said happily, "This is truly a blessing from heaven! You saved your little nephew and even found his biological parents. This is wonderful!"

Wang Yuqiao held Du Yuhan's hand and asked, "Are your biological parents good to you?"

Du Yuhan nodded and said, "They've been looking for me, and they're so happy to finally find me. My whole family is very kind to me. I asked them to find you a place to go, and they've agreed to take you in. It just depends on whether you want to go."

Du Lianqiao asked, "What place is it? Is it far from here?"

The whole family looked at Du Yuhan with hopeful eyes.

Du Yuhan replied, "It's in the Northeast, far from here. Once you get there, the people at the Du family's old house will never be able to find you again. Besides, it's a sparsely populated area there, so as long as you don't slack off, it'll be easier to get enough to eat."

The village's Party Secretary is an old subordinate of my biological father. You went there as relatives of his family. With him looking after us, and as long as we don't cause trouble, no one will bully us.

I came here today because I received confirmation and wanted to ask for your opinion. If you agree, I will send a message to my father, and we will leave here quietly without letting the old family home know anything.

Once you get there, someone will help you register your household registration again, and from then on, you will completely sever ties with this place. However, you should tell the village secretary before you leave, saying that you are going to stay with relatives, and ask him to issue a letter of introduction, and ask him to keep it a secret for a while.

Once we leave here, the people at the old house won't be able to find us again. I believe the village secretary will do that.

Everyone was excited after hearing Du Yuhan's words; they finally had a chance to get rid of the people in the old house.

Although the second branch of the Du family has separated in the past few months, they still haven't escaped the bullying from the old Du family residence, which has caused the Du Lianqiao family great distress.

Du Haifeng was the first to speak up, saying, "That's great! As long as we can leave here and get away from the people at the old house, we'll go anywhere, no matter how far away."

Wang Yuqiao also said, "Anyway, we all have to work to earn a living. It's easier to have enough to eat in places with more land, where there are more people and less land, and the land is poorer. Most importantly, we will live a better life after leaving the old house where they bully our family."

Wang Yuqiao looked at Du Lianqiao expectantly and said, "Dad, Yuhan has found us such a good opportunity, we must seize it. I don't want to see the faces of those people in the old house for even a day longer. I don't want my children to be bullied all the time. If you can't bear to leave, I will take the children with me."

Du Lianqiao said somewhat anxiously, "What are you saying? How can I not go with you? Since everyone wants to leave this place, let's go. Let's leave this place and start a new life."

I may be a coward, but I still want the children to be well, and I want this family to be well. I don't feel any reluctance to leave the people at the old house; leaving them would be my greatest wish. Yuhan, you can make the arrangements.

Du Yuhan was delighted to see that the whole family was in agreement to leave. "Dad, Mom, everything is ready over there. We just need to go."

I'll just call my dad halfway there to let him know. By the time we get there, we should know.

My dad told me that once we get there, we'll first borrow someone else's house, and then we'll build our own. Materials are easy to find there, and building a house won't cost much."

Wang Yuqiao asked, "Yuhan, from what you're saying, you're going to come with us?"

Du Yuhan nodded and said, "I'll take you there and make sure you're settled before I go back."

Wang Yuqiao asked worriedly, "Won't the Han family have any objections?"

Du Yuhan replied, "I made sure there wouldn't be any problems with my trip. We should pack our things and leave as soon as possible. And we must keep this a secret and not let a word slip by to avoid any complications."

Du Lianqiao finally made a decision, saying, "Let's pack our things as soon as possible. We don't have much at home, just some clothes and bedding, so it's easy to pack. Tomorrow I'll quietly go to the village secretary to get a letter of introduction. Once we have it, we'll leave. The sooner the better."

Wang Yuqiao immediately stood up and said, "I'll pack it right away."

Du Haifeng and Du Haichao said, "Mother, let me help you."

The Du family immediately sprang into action. The second branch of the Du family had only separated a few months ago, and they hadn't received much when the family divided the property. They hadn't bought anything in the past few months, and they were living in borrowed houses, so they really didn't have much.
