Chapter Two: Space

In her previous life, after Du Yuhan left the Du family, the second branch of the Du family did not survive the great famine and all starved to death. This was mainly because the Du family matriarch hoarded the grain and saved the life-saving rations for her own children. After all, the second branch was not her biological offspring.

When Du Yuhan first arrived at the Han family, she was extremely cautious. Later, when things got better and she wanted to help her adoptive parents, she learned that her adoptive father's entire family of five had starved to death. She was heartbroken and regretted it for a long time, and this became a pain she could never forget in her life.

Having been given a second chance in this life, she is determined to help her adoptive parents escape their past fate and live a peaceful life.

Du Yuhan thought of Han Yixian again, that handsome and dashing man. Fate had dealt him too many hardships, like an eagle soaring in the sky whose wings were suddenly broken, leaving him unable to fly again. He left this world prematurely, in the middle of his life.

Han Yixian was the eldest son of the Han family, a prominent military family in Kyoto, and a soldier. He was handsome, dashing, exceptionally capable, and had a bright future; he was the next heir to the Han family headship. Known in Kyoto as the "Jade-Faced Zhuge Liang," he was praised by many elders and secretly admired by many young women.

However, great wisdom often leads to harm. On the battlefield, Han Yixian was seriously injured while saving his comrades, and his legs became crippled, leaving him unable to stand up again.

He, who should have become a general, was instead a disabled person confined to a wheelchair. This was a devastating blow to him. Adding to his woes, his fiancée broke off the engagement and left him, and his mother's attitude turned cold, leaving him utterly depressed.

Han Yixian's temper became irritable and picky, and he drove away many of the caregivers his family had hired for him.

In order to help Han Yixian forget the past and rekindle his hope for life, Han Yixian's father asked his sister, Han Xiuqin, to take Han Yixian to D province, away from the painful place that was Kyoto.

Han Xiuqin wanted to find a caregiver for her nephew, a young girl, hoping to develop a relationship with him and become his wife in the future, taking care of his daily life and also leaving him with an heir.

Han Xiuqin made inquiries through various channels before finally settling on Du Yuhan. Du Yuhan is hardworking and caring, and since she suffers a lot of mistreatment at home, she'll definitely be able to live peacefully with her nephew. Her family home is far away, so there won't be any further entanglements.

She promised Liu Cuilian, Du Yuhan's so-called grandmother, that if Han Yixian agreed to let Du Yuhan stay, he would give Liu Cuilian a sum of money and a lot of food coupons, more than the dowry given by that old bachelor.

Han Xiuqin told Liu Cuilian that she wanted Du Yuhan to be her nephew's wife, but to Han Yixian she meant for her to take care of him. She was afraid her nephew would object and refuse directly, so she adopted a roundabout approach.

Du Yuhan and Han Yixian had known each other for several years and she knew that Han Yixian had a woman in his heart, but she didn't know who she was. Perhaps it was his fiancée who had broken off their engagement. Therefore, in his previous life, Han Yixian did not marry Du Yuhan in the end, but instead introduced her to his comrade-in-arms, Zhou Zhengye. In the end, Du Yuhan married Zhou Zhengye.

Du Yuhan recalled her past life, how Han Yi first listened to Han Xiuqin tell her about her pitiful situation, which is why he kept her.

During the years she cared for Han Yixian, he taught her many things: cultural knowledge, skills, and principles of conduct, cultivating her into a refined lady comparable to those from prominent families. This laid a solid foundation for her independent survival after her divorce.

She was very grateful to Han Yixian. Han Yixian had helped her a lot; he was both her teacher and her older brother. However, when she returned to China from abroad, Han Yixian had already passed away, and she was unable to repay him, a regret she carried for the rest of her life. Now, reborn, she finally had the chance.

Du Yuhan then thought of her biological parents. She later found her relatives, but her parents had suffered serious health damage during the turbulent times and died not long after. So she only found her two older brothers and never met her biological parents, only seeing their photos.

She heard from her two older brothers that their parents were still thinking about finding her before they passed away. Not finding their youngest daughter was their lifelong regret.

In this life, she wants to find her biological parents early, take good care of them, and ensure they live to be a hundred years old.

Du Yuhan's mind was a jumble of thoughts about giving birth and the things she needed to do.

Having gathered enough firewood, Du Yuhan found a secluded, sheltered spot, disappeared into the bushes.

Du Yuhan entered the space that had accompanied her rebirth.

She observed her own space. This space appeared when she was most helpless in her previous life. It took her many years to understand the functions of the space and upgrade it little by little.

It wasn't until later, when novels and farming games about spatial elements appeared, that she suddenly understood. This spatial element was similar to a farming game, requiring planting and raising animals to gain experience points and level up.

Furthermore, the shops in this space have a more comprehensive selection than those in the farm game. However, the items in the shops are subject to level restrictions; you can only purchase the desired goods once you reach a certain level and have enough coins.

In her previous life, she spent many years trying to upgrade her space to the highest level, mainly because she didn't use the space much later on, so she wasn't in a hurry to upgrade it.

When the mall exploded after she was kidnapped by bandits, her spatial dimension was undergoing an upgrade, and she couldn't enter it no matter what she did; otherwise, she wouldn't have been killed in the explosion. Perhaps fate was determined to give her a second chance.

Now she has been reborn, but the space has returned to its original state, with only level zero and the original six plots of land.

Due to level restrictions, only pasture grass, white radishes, and carrots can be grown on the land. Other pastures and fishponds are no longer available; they only appear after reaching a certain level. Fortunately, the small villa inside the space looks unchanged from the outside, just like in the previous life.

Du Yuhan hadn't had a chance to access her social media space for the past few days, but today she finally found the opportunity to take a look. Having access to her space filled her with confidence for the future.

The villa was still the same as before, and nothing she had put in there had changed, which already made her very satisfied.

This villa was her second home, and she put a lot of thought and effort into decorating it. Later, she added many of her favorite things, and after decades of accumulation in her previous life, the villa was truly filled with many items.

After checking everything in the villa, Du Yuhan felt much more at ease.

After leaving the villa, Du Yuhan observed the space and noticed something different: behind the villa was a very tall building. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was the shopping mall where she had been kidnapped while shopping for clothes. How could it be in her space?

Du Yuhan was very worried that if the shopping mall entered her space, would those people also enter?

Du Yuhan disregarded everything else and ran towards the mall. Upon entering, she found the mall eerily quiet; the only sound was her own footsteps.
