Chapter 194 Someone is looking for

Ning Jing plans to dry wild vegetables to eat in the winter, and the other women in the village have the same plan.

Anyway, after the autumn harvest, there wasn't much to do except chat and gossip, dig for wild vegetables and chop firewood.

The large trees here cannot be cut down; you must apply for permission from the brigade headquarters and the village head before you can do so.

Moreover, this type of timber can only be harvested if it has a legitimate purpose.

In the village, there's a firewood mountain where people gather firewood for cooking and other purposes.

The firewood on the mountain is all that kind of small firewood, only a little bigger than an adult man's thumb.

However, this mountain is very steep, and it is easy for children and women to slip and fall if they go up.

Therefore, we could only pick up some branches and the like at the foot of the mountain.

Men can go up there without any problem, but they can only do so during the off-season for farming.

Otherwise, what good is firewood if you can't earn work points to exchange for food?

"Sister-in-law, in two more days, I guess we won't be able to find any wild vegetables around here."

Looking at the village women squatting on the hillside, Xiuhua leaned closer and whispered in Ningjing's ear.

"It's alright, I've made an appointment with Sister Guihua tomorrow to go to her parents' house."

"Buy the chickens we ordered earlier, then see if they have any vegetables over there. If they do, we'll send some over."

Even if we can't get vegetables, exchanging them for seeds would be good too.

Ning Jing had already made up her mind; after all, she still had plenty of bricks and tiles left over from building the new house.

When Fu Hongxing has some free time, she can build a kang (heated brick bed) wall around the old house where they used to sleep and the dilapidated woodshed.

It doesn't need to be too high, just enough to increase the temperature inside the room.

When the time comes, we'll dig up the mud and put it into those two houses to grow greenhouse vegetables.

Anyway, since there's a wall around it, as long as we don't open the gate to let people in to look, people won't know if the gate is closed.

However, the amount of firewood will likely be several times more than in previous years.

However, with Fu Hongxing in the coal mine, if they could get some coal to make coal briquettes, they wouldn't have to worry about firewood in the winter.

While they were lost in thought, Wang Guihua ran towards them, shouting with sweat streaming down her face, "Ning Jing, someone is looking for you at your house."

Ning Jing pulled Wang Guihua aside and laughed, "Sister-in-law, why were you running so fast?"

But he was curious about who had come to see him.

Wang Guihua, however, grabbed her hand and ran back.

As he ran, he whispered, "There's a car parked in front of your house, and two guys in green military uniforms. Are they here to see your Red Star?"

"Green military uniform?"

Ning Jing was surprised for a moment after hearing this, then raised her eyebrows.

Could it be someone Fu Hongxing knows from the military who's come looking for him?

Ning Jing was pulled back by Wang Guihua, panting as they ran.

Sure enough, a dark green Jeep with military license plates was parked in front of the house.

A tall man was standing in the doorway, slowly looking around.

Another soldier with a round face, who looked no more than seventeen or eighteen, happened to turn around and see her and Sister Guihua. He quickly whispered something in the ear of the tall man.

Hearing the prompting from the person next to him, the tall man turned around, his eyes shining directly at Ning Jing like searchlights.

The man had sharp, arched eyebrows, single eyelids, a high nose, and thin lips. He looked surprisingly young and had a very handsome appearance.

When Ning Jing saw the young soldier and the jeep, she knew that the person who came must be of high status.
