Chapter 345 Drive Away

As the two were talking, they heard a knock on the courtyard gate.

"Cuifen, open the door quickly!"

Seeing that the courtyard gate was closed, Xing Fengbao, who clearly remembered that his wife had returned home early, couldn't help but shout loudly.

Upon hearing her husband's voice, Guo Cuifen quickly went to open the door.

Then she saw her husband raising his hand, while her father-in-law stood with his hands behind his back, glaring at her with a displeased expression.

"Fengbao, Dad, look who's here!"

Old Man Xing originally thought that his eldest daughter-in-law's laziness had relapsed, but when he heard what she said, he rolled his eyes and looked into the yard.

When he saw Tan Qingzhou, he frowned, stepped into the courtyard, and looked at Tan Qingzhou in a not-so-friendly tone.

"What are you doing here?"

"Grandpa, Dad and Mom have gathered some grain and asked me to bring it over."

Tan Qingzhou knew that his parents' previous refusal of his maternal grandfather's family's request for a grain loan must have left a grudge between his maternal grandfather and his eldest uncle.

"Hmph, take the stuff back and tell your mother that I'll pretend I never had such an unfilial daughter."

Old Xing glanced at the two sacks piled up in the yard and immediately knew they contained coarse grains.

These past few days, the team canteen has been serving rice every day, so he doesn't really care about this little bit of food.

He waved impatiently at Tan Qingzhou, telling him to leave.

"Grandpa, Uncle...?"

Tan Qingzhou's eyes widened. This was grain!

Didn't my maternal grandfather's family run out of food?

Just now, his aunt had clearly welcomed him into the courtyard with great joy, but now, before Tan Qingzhou could even figure it out...

The cart and the two sacks of coarse grain were thrown out of the Xing family compound, along with Tan Qingzhou.

Before closing the door, his uncle gave him a deep look.

"Qingzhou, blame your father for looking down on people like that before."

After saying that, he slammed the courtyard gate shut with a "bang" and locked it.

Then, the words of the eldest uncle, speaking in a low voice, rebuking his aunt, drifted out intermittently.

Although he didn't hear it very clearly, only the words "slightly droopy eyelids" and "enough to eat" reached Tan Qingzhou's ears.

With a heart full of doubt and apprehension, Tan Qingzhou loaded the second-generation coarse grain onto the cart and then pulled it back.

Xing Lanhua was restless at home, feeling that something was about to happen, but her eldest son hadn't returned, so worrying wouldn't help.

Just as she was sitting there in a daze, lost in thought, she heard her eldest daughter-in-law, Wang Hui, knock on her door and whisper, "Mother, Meizi's father is back."

Upon hearing this, Xing Lanhua suddenly stood up, opened the door, and ran out.

As soon as I stepped out of the room, I saw my eldest son standing in the middle of the yard with his head down and a look of utter dejection on his face.

On the cart in front of him was the grain she had asked her eldest son to take to her father.

Seeing that the grain hadn't been delivered, Xing Lanhua had a bad feeling. Her vision blurred, and her whole body swayed, as if she was about to faint.

When Tan Qingzhou looked up and saw his mother's expression, he knew she must have misunderstood.

She hurriedly called out, "Mom, Grandpa and Uncle are all alright."

Wang Hui happened to be standing next to Xing Lanhua. She quickly stepped forward and helped her mother-in-law, who was about to collapse to the ground.

Xing Lanhua breathed a sigh of relief after hearing her eldest son's words.

But if nothing's wrong, why didn't her father and elder brother accept the grain she sent from Qingzhou?

The question that had been bothering him slipped out, and his face showed even more confusion.

Is he still angry with her and Dingguo, so he would rather go hungry than eat the food she sent?
