Chapter 588 Smoking the Rabbit Hole

Normally, Fu Hongxing would probably take the pheasant and wild eggs back with him.

After all, in these mountains, being able to get these two things means the pheasant has had a pretty good haul.

However, his main purpose in going up the mountain this time was to catch wild rabbits!

He was afraid Ning Jing would be disappointed if he didn't catch the rabbit.

So, Fu Hongxing simply grabbed a handful of thatch, twisted it into a rope, tied the headless, already dead pheasant to his waist.

He put the wild eggs into a sack and carefully held them in his hand.

Anyway, we'll only need the burlap sacks once we find the wild rabbit's burrow.

Fu Hongxing straightened up and walked about half a mile further before stopping, because he had found the rabbit hole.

He surveyed the area around the cave, then collected large pebbles from each of the openings and threw them in to completely block them up.

Then, at a hole that looked very fresh from where people had come and gone, they took the wild eggs out of the sack and put them aside.

He then gathered a large amount of thatch he had cut down and placed it beside the cave entrance, then lit it with a match.

The freshly cut thatch was still damp and green. Fu Hongxing grabbed some dry fallen leaves from the side and placed them on it, and soon smoke began to swirl around.

The smoke was directly blown into the rabbit hole by Fu Hongxing.

Soon, white smoke filled the cave, and Fu Hongxing's ears twitched involuntarily.

Seeing that the smoke had cleared enough, he threw the thatch aside, then grabbed a burlap sack, opened it, and blocked the entrance to the hole, waiting for the rabbit to walk right into his trap.

Sure enough, he had just heard the rabbits inside the hole running around in all directions because of the smoke, but the entrances that had been dug out were all blocked, and they couldn't get out at all.

Then, in a short while, three or four gray-furred rabbits scrambled out of the hole where he was standing.

The sack Fu Hongxing was carrying was big and long enough that three or four rabbits crawled inside and kept hopping around, but he didn't immediately pick it up.

Instead, it stepped directly into the middle of the sack, cutting off the rabbits' escape route.

Once the bag was over their heads and they had nowhere to hide, the rabbits huddled together, trembling, too afraid to move.

Fu Hongxing was patient enough; there was still plenty of space in front of the sack!

So, I waited a few more minutes while pressing against the hole.

Then, two more rabbits came running out of the rabbit hole with a thud.

These two rabbits are clearly much smaller than the rabbits that ran out before.

Seeing this, Fu Hongxing quickly closed the sack and picked it up.

The rabbits immediately rolled into a heap inside the sack.

It's estimated that this group of rabbits were three generations living together, but unfortunately they were all unlucky and their homes were confiscated by Fu Hongxing.

Fu Hongxing took off his coat with satisfaction, wrapped up the wild eggs he had just put aside, and then went back with the sack and his clothes in hand.

The journey was fine; we didn't encounter many people.

Once he got home and entered the yard, he quickly closed the gate.

Ning Jing walked out of the house, staring in disbelief at Fu Hongxing's spoils.

She took the bag of wild eggs that Fu Hongxing handed her, even though there were enough eggs at home for the children.

But these wild eggs are definitely more nutritious than domesticated eggs, so they're perfect for nourishing the twins.

Ning Jing counted them and found there were actually seven, enough for the twins to eat for several days!
