Yun Qi separated the pork skin from the fat, leaving only the fat in the pot. Yun Duo slowly heated it over a low flame, rendering the oil little by little, and the enticing aroma spread out.
Hiding behind the fence, Yun Wansheng nudged his little nephew Yun Xiangwen, whom he had secretly carried over: "Xiaowen, hurry up, your great-grandmother is cooking meat. Smell it, it smells so good! If you don't go now, you won't get any."
Yun Xiangwen swallowed hard, shook his head, and said to Yun Wansheng, "Second Uncle... Dad said we can't eat at Great-Grandma's house. If Xiangwen eats a bowl, Great-Grandma and the others will have to eat one less bowl, and they'll go hungry."
Yun Wansheng was getting impatient, but he still patiently said, "What do you mean your dad said, your mom said? Don't you want to eat meat?"
"Yes." Yun Xiangwen nodded vigorously.
"Then hurry up and go in, go find your great-grandmother, if you find her you'll get meat to eat." Yun Wansheng said, pushing Yun Xiangwen forward again.
"But..." The little child still remembered his father's words.
"What do you mean 'but' or 'no'? I didn't ask you to eat a whole bowl. Just taste it, don't eat too much, okay? Hurry up and go, or you won't be able to taste it anymore." Yun Wansheng's tone became increasingly impatient, and he added, "Remember, don't say I brought you here, or I'll beat you up."
If his grandparents didn't dislike him now, he wouldn't have used that stupid boy Yun Xiangwen as a scapegoat. Come to think of it, it's all that brat Yun Duo's fault. If she hadn't framed him, he wouldn't have angered his grandparents. If his grandparents weren't angry…
Yun Wansheng swallowed hard and pushed Yun Xiangwen again.
Even as a child, Yun Xiangwen craved meat. Following Yun Wansheng's words, he said, "Then I'll go find my great-grandmother. I'll just have a taste, and I won't eat much." After saying that, he went into the courtyard and walked towards the direction from which the aroma was coming.
While tending the fire, Yun Duo chatted with Yun Qi Shi, telling her about her experiences in the county town. When she heard a noise at the door, she instinctively turned her head and saw Yun Xiang Wen leaning against the door frame, which startled her a little.
"Xiaowen? What brings you here?" Although Yun Duo didn't have a good impression of the original owner's uncle's family, she wouldn't easily harbor any ill will towards a four-year-old child. After all, compared to Yun Yusheng, Yun Xiangwen was practically a 'little angel'.
"Great-Grandma, Auntie." Seeing that Yun Duo had noticed him, Yun Xiangwen smiled at her and obediently greeted her.
Yun Xiangwen was very obedient, so Yun Duo naturally liked him more. Seeing this, she waved to Yun Xiangwen and said, "Come here, little auntie. Little auntie will give you some watermelon."
Yun Xiangwen, with her innocent and naive nature, asked, "Auntie, what is watermelon? Is it tastier than meat?" Before Yun Duo could answer, she turned to Yun Qi Shi and said, "Grandma, if Xiaowen wants to eat meat, she can have just a little bit, just a little bit, to taste it." As she spoke, she held up her little finger to indicate the taste.
It turned out they came because of the smell of meat. Yun Duo was surprised, but she still stood up and prepared to get Yun Xiangwen a piece of watermelon.
Seeing her great-grandson's joy, Madam Yun Qi chuckled and said, "Our little Wen wants to eat meat? How about we wait a bit? Once Grandma has rendered the oil, you can have meat, okay?"
"Okay." Yun Xiangwen nodded obediently, but his gaze fell on Yun Duo's hand holding the watermelon.
