Watermelon rind soup!
She loved eating it in her previous life. It was so incredibly fresh, with the crisp, refreshing aroma of melons and fruits, and the unique fragrance of watermelon. The soup made from it was especially delicious! She had been thinking about how to subtly hint at it so she could have some watermelon rind soup without arousing suspicion. Who knew the old lady already knew? It was like finding a pillow just when you're about to fall asleep!
However, she was still somewhat disgusted by the saliva left on the watermelon rind by others.
So, although Yun Qishi only asked her to wash the watermelon rind, she took a knife and carefully peeled off a thin layer of the white flesh, and then also peeled off the hard shell.
However, the hard shell was difficult to peel, and she almost cut her hand several times. Fortunately, she was always very careful, so she escaped unharmed.
Yun Duo placed the peeled and washed watermelon rind on the stove in front of Yun Qi Shi: "Grandma, I'm done!"
Yun Qi was adding ginger pieces to the oil when Yun Dazheng returned. He overheard Yun Duo's words and asked, "What are you doing, Duo'er?"
"Grandpa, I washed the watermelon rind," Yunduo replied obediently.
"Old man, you're back just in time! Quickly give me the perilla leaves, pepper leaves, and black pepper leaves; I just finished brewing them," Yun Qi said hurriedly.
"Great-Grandpa," Yun Xiangwen greeted him obediently.
"Xiao Wen is here." Hearing Yun Xiangwen call out, Yun Dazheng finally noticed him, and handed the things in his hand to Yun Qishi while responding.
There was quite a lot, but Yun Qi didn't say anything. She just selected what she had prepared, chopped it finely, and sprinkled it into the oil. Once the sizzling sound in the pot stopped, she carefully took the earthenware pot that had been dried with a cloth and scooped in the oil and most of the 'oil residue'.
It's not much, actually. But if we leave some, it'll last a long time.
Next time we make wild vegetable porridge, we can add some salt and oil to it, so it will taste better!
Yun Qi carefully wrapped the still-open oil can with a dry cloth and placed it inside the stove where it wouldn't be touched before saying to Yun Dazheng, "I had Duo'er wash the watermelon rind so I can make some soup for the two children later."
As they spoke, seeing that Yun Duo had washed and peeled the watermelon rind, he frowned and looked at Yun Duo with concern, saying, "You child, why did you peel the rind too? You're so small, you don't have much strength in your hands. What if you cut your hand? Don't do it again next time, Grandma will take care of it."
Knowing that Yun Qi was worried about her, Yun Duo quickly said, "Grandma, it's okay, I didn't cut my hand." As she spoke, she stretched out her little hand in front of Yun Qi and showed it to her.
"It's good that you didn't peel it, but you mustn't do it again." Yun Qi said, taking Yun Duo's little hand and patting it gently. She then scooped a ladle of water into the pot and covered it with the lid. Seeing that Yun Dazheng had already started the fire, she quickly went to cut the watermelon rind herself.
Once the water in the pot boiled, Yun Qi poured in the chopped watermelon rind, covered the pot, and cooked it for two minutes. Then she had Yun Dazheng turn off the heat and took a bowl to ladle out the soup. Before she could even put the spoon into the pot, Yun Wansheng's voice came from behind her.
"Xiaowen, Xiaowen, where are you? Come out and go home with your second uncle."
The sound was very close, clearly coming from the courtyard, but no one came in for a long time. The elderly couple exchanged a glance, both feeling that this was unlike their second grandson.
"Oh no, everything's on the table!"
Yun Dazheng suddenly realized what was happening and walked outside with a sullen face.
