Chapter 141 Gone

"Duo'er, where did that young master go?" Yun Dazheng returned just as Li Bingchen left, carefully carrying a basket. He looked left and right, but couldn't see Li Bingchen, so he couldn't help but ask.

Yun Duo tossed the last bit of grass into the basket, clapped her hands, and looked at Yun Dazheng, saying, "Oh, Grandpa, you mean Li Cheng? He just left."

"Why did you leave so soon..." Yun Dazheng said with great annoyance.

"Grandpa, what's wrong? Is something the matter?" Yun Duo walked to Yun Dazheng's side and asked.

Yun Dazheng said, "Well, it's nothing. Your grandma and I were thinking that young master Li helped us so much, and we didn't even express our gratitude. Now that he's finally here, we wanted to cook some sweet egg soup for him to try, to show our appreciation."

The most straightforward way for farmers to express gratitude and enthusiasm is to offer someone a bowl of sweet egg soup. So, as soon as Yun Dazheng and Yun Qishi returned, they bought eggs to boil. After boiling, they specially added honey. Fearing that the young master would refuse if they invited him to their home, Yun Dazheng carried the eggs to the field.

Who knew... that young master actually left.

"Then... Duo'er, will that young master Li be back later?" Yun Dazheng asked expectantly.

Thinking about Li Cheng saying he was going to call his father, which would require going to the town, and possibly even the county, and the implication that he wouldn't be back anytime soon, I wondered...

Thinking about it, Yun Duo shook her head and said, "She probably won't come back."

Upon hearing Yun Duo say that Young Master Li wouldn't be returning, Yun Dazheng immediately became worried. If Young Master Li wasn't coming back, how could they bear to eat all those sweet eggs in soup themselves?

Yun Dazheng bought ten eggs, each costing five cents, and boiled them all. He figured the young master would eat four, his bodyguard four, and his granddaughter two, so he ate them all. It was summer, and food couldn't be kept long; once the guests left, he'd have to eat them all himself.

It hurts just thinking about it!

However, no matter how heartbroken I am, I can only eat it myself.

Yun Da lifted the banana leaf covering the basket, took out the smallest bowl from the basket and handed it to Yun Duo, saying, "Duo'er, come on, eat two eggs first, then take the basket home and tell your grandma that the guests have left, so we won't cook lunch, we'll just have sweet eggs."

Thinking that there was so much soup and liquid, and that Yun Duo was too small to carry it, and that he was indeed a bit hungry after working for most of the morning, she continued, "Grandpa, have some honey water. You can take it home and let Grandma have some too." As she spoke, she put the basket on the ground, picked up a bowl, and carefully used a spoon to scoop all the eggs from the bowl into another bowl, then held the bowl and drank the sugar water herself.

Seeing this, Yun Duo quickly held her bowl up in front of Yun Da Zheng and said, "Grandpa, you eat the egg, we'll each have one." If the spoon hadn't been so small, and she was worried that her hand would shake and the egg would roll onto the ground, she would have scooped it up directly.

Yun Da was deeply moved, but he coaxed Yun Duo, saying, "Hey, good girl, you eat it yourself, okay? Grandpa can just drink honey water. This is sweet and very nutritious."

"No, Grandpa, if you don't eat, then Duo'er won't eat either," Yun Duo pouted.

"Oh, really, you child..." Yun Dazheng was touched. Seeing the persistence on Yun Duo's little face, he nodded quickly and said, "Okay, okay, Grandpa will eat, Grandpa will eat too. When you go back later, remember to let your grandma eat an egg first, okay?" As he spoke, he lowered the bowl so that Yun Duo could scoop the egg from her bowl into her own.

Yun Duo divided the eggs among Yun Dazheng and nodded contentedly, "Yes! Duo'er understands."
