Chapter 405 Angry Again

Seeing Yun Dazheng return in a huff, Yun Qishi couldn't help but sigh in her heart, and then called to Yun Duo: "Duo'er, go and fetch two ladles of hot water for your grandfather, so that he can wash off the grime all over his head and face."

"Okay, Grandma." Yun Duo responded, then took a ladle and scooped a ladleful of hot water from the pot and carried it out.

"Grandpa, you should wash your face first. Dinner will be ready soon." Yun Duo poured water into the wooden basin while standing on tiptoe to pull down Yun Dazheng's towel, which had frozen solid on the drying line, and put it in the hot water basin.

Seeing his granddaughter's sensible and well-behaved manner, Yun Dazheng felt a little better. He took a dry cloth and went out into the yard to brush off as much dust as possible. While brushing off the dust, he said to Yun Duo, "Hey, good girl, don't keep scooping water. Grandpa will wash his head first, pour out the water, and then I'll scoop some more myself."

"Hmm." Yun Duo nodded, but then said with a smile, "It's alright, Grandpa. A ladle of water is very light. Duo'er can carry it."

Hearing Yun Duo say that, Yun Dazheng stopped talking about coming, since it wasn't a heavy job and wouldn't tire his little granddaughter out.

Breakfast at the old house was simple: a small pot of white rice porridge. The old lady kneaded some flour, and after the rice was cooked, she used a knife to cut it into thin slices, like knife-cut noodles, and put them directly into the pot to cook.

Eating only porridge won't keep you full. Adding some noodles will make it much better. Now, we don't lack money or food, so we don't have to eat as little as other families do during the winter when we have to stay home and save our food for when we need to work.

Besides the noodles and porridge, Yun Qi also fried four eggs, two old ones, one for each person. Yun Duo had two.

Actually, they usually eat boiled eggs. The two elders each boil one, and Yunduo boils two. But after eating boiled eggs for a while, they occasionally change the way they eat them.

It's not that the two elderly people are reluctant to eat; the chickens they raise have entered their egg-laying period, and the old lady is now willing to feed them grain, so even though it's winter now, the eggs laid by those chickens every day are enough for the three of them to eat.

The main point is that elderly people should not eat too many eggs; one a day is a suitable amount.

As for Yunduo, she is still a child and is growing rapidly, so eating two eggs a day is not too much.

Breakfast consisted of noodles, porridge, and fried eggs, along with a small dish of pickled vegetables to eat with the rice and a small bowl of chili sauce made by the old lady herself.

The old lady is really good at making these things; her chili sauce is incredibly fragrant, and she even added finely chopped ginger. Spreading a little on the noodles makes them taste exceptionally good.

Even so, Yun Dazheng had a poor appetite. He ate for a long time, but the food in his bowl didn't seem to have decreased much. Clearly, he was unhappy and couldn't eat.

Farmers don't have any rules about not speaking while eating or sleeping. Seeing him like this, Yun Qi didn't directly try to persuade him, but just casually chatted with Yun Dazheng while eating.

“Old man, it’s market day in the village today. After you finish eating, go and buy some meat. Take a basket and buy a lot. Also, see if they sell sausage casings. If they do, buy some. If not, tell the butcher to save some for us at the next market. We’re out of sausages at home. Let’s make some more so we can enjoy them during the New Year.”
