Chapter 49 The Finale

Before Yun Duo could say anything, Yun Dazheng objected, saying, "It was me who wanted to separate the family property, don't push all the responsibility onto Duo'er! Who told her to be so unlucky, to have such heartless parents, and to have you and Wang Shufang, an uncle and aunt who wouldn't suffer the slightest loss. Neither of them cared about her, what could she do? Should she just die? Why should she? Doesn't she have a life too?"

“I’m telling you, Yun Youtian, she’s my granddaughter, Yun Dazheng’s granddaughter. None of you care, but I will!”

"Don't pretend to be a filial son here. If you were truly filial, you wouldn't be so intolerant of a little girl like this."

"How much can she eat? How much can she drink? She has hands and feet, and she's hardworking and sensible. She won't eat for free. Even if she just carries a basket every day to dig up some wild vegetables to add to her diet, that's enough for her. Ha, what about you? You have so many grand principles, but what's the result? You're afraid to suffer even the slightest loss."

"Dad..." Hearing Yun Dazheng put it this way, Yun Youtian could only sigh deeply and say, "Alright then, since you insist on dividing the family, then we'll do it your way. I'll provide your annual pension on time. During holidays, you and Mom can come over for a meal. If one day you feel you can't make it anymore, just send Yun Duo back to your second son's family. The door to our son's house will always be open to you; you can come back anytime."

Shufen is right. Parents should be taken care of, but it doesn't make sense for him, the eldest uncle, to raise his niece when his brother and his wife are both alive and well. He has a large family to support, and he can barely take care of everyone else, let alone his niece.

Although it was Yun Dazheng who insisted on separating the family, he still felt a little uncomfortable when Yun Youtian agreed. However, seeing Yun Duo nestled beside him, his resolve strengthened.

He felt he hadn't raised his son properly, which led him to abandon his own daughter to shirk responsibility. Raising a child without proper upbringing is the father's fault, and he had to shoulder that responsibility. Besides, Duo'er was truly a pitiful child.

Thinking it over, Yun Dazheng stood up and said, "Let's go find the village chief and redistribute the family property and the land."

Yun Youtian quickly said, "No, Dad, it's the middle of the day, the village chief's family needs to eat too. Why don't we cook first and then go find the village chief?" As he spoke, he said to Wang Shufang, who had been sitting to the side, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and cook! The eldest brother and the others should be back soon. They've worked hard all day, they can't come home without a meal, can they?"

"Is it my fault?" Wang Shufen's expression was a little unpleasant. Finally, she pulled Yun Youtian aside and said, "You come and tend the fire for me." This meant she had something to say.

Yun Youtian understood and said to Yun Dazheng, "Then Dad, you and Mom can rest for a while. I'll go help Shufen start the fire." He paused for a moment, then said to Yun Duo, "Duo'er, why don't you have a meal at your uncle's house too?"

Yun Duo didn't want to be looked down upon by Wang Shufen, so she immediately shook her head and said, "No need, Uncle, I'm not hungry."

Yun Dazheng said, "Alright, Duo'er, it's just a meal. You're my own niece, can't you even have a meal at your uncle's house?"

Hearing Yun Dazheng speak, Yun Duo stopped insisting, thinking that she could just bring back a piece of honeycomb later as payment for the meal.

Seeing this, Wang Shufen pursed her lips. With Yun and Tian in front of her, she didn't say anything more sarcastic.
