Having no other option, Lu Zhimin had to go and call Lu Laogen himself.
Although Lu Laogen is better than before, he still doesn't like to see people. As soon as he heard Lu Zhimin's purpose, he shook his head vigorously: "No way, Brother Zhimin, if you ask me to go and talk, I absolutely can't say anything."
"You know my own limitations. I don't have any special methods for farming. I just do it the same way as before, except I'm a little more careful."
"To be honest, I envy Uncle Yun's harvest. If I had a way of farming, how could I not use it for myself? How could I not tell you? Don't you think that makes sense?"
Lu Zhimin said irritably, "Of course I know that makes sense, but the county magistrate asked me to come and get you, so how could I dare to say no? Stop nagging and come with me right now, the county magistrate is waiting to ask you some questions."
Lu Laogen shook his head again: "No, brother, it really won't work. I really can't. How could I possibly speak to the county magistrate? I can't, I wouldn't dare..."
Seeing Lu Laogen's terrified and cowardly appearance, Lu Zhimin suddenly felt a surge of anger and immediately scolded him with a stern face: "Shut up! I just told you to stop babbling and get going. If you keep dawdling and babbling, don't blame me for not pleading for you if the county magistrate blames you."
"Look at you, how old are you? Your son is almost a grown man, and you're still such a coward. It's just that the county magistrate asked you to come in for questioning. He's not going to eat you, and you're already this scared... Can't you be a little more dignified?"
Startled by Lu Zhimin's harsh words, Old Lu could only shrink his neck, cover his ears, and say, "No." After a pause, he added, sounding aggrieved, "You're my brother, don't you know whether I'm successful or not?"
Lu Zhimin was so angry he nearly fell over. He stopped arguing and grabbed Lu Laogen's arm, dragging him forward. While dragging him, he threatened, "Lu Laogen, let me tell you, you'd better speak properly in front of the county magistrate. Answer his questions honestly, say what you mean, and state the facts. If you dare to be a silent blockhead, you'll see how I deal with you!"
"The autumn harvest hasn't been completed yet. If you don't want to fail to pay your harvest and get arrested, you'd better behave yourself."
"Don't think I'm bluffing you. I'm telling you, I'll swear on my village chief's hat that if you dare to back down, I'll make you pay. Let's see who's tougher!"
Lu Laogen felt extremely wronged.
Although he didn't think Lu Zhimin would actually keep his word and end up in the police station, he could tell that Lu Zhimin was genuinely worried. If he dared to cause any trouble, Lu Zhimin would really deal with him.
So even though he was so scared that his legs went weak and trembled, Lu Laogen still stood obediently in front of Cao Limin and stammered, "Hello, County Chief."
With a friendly smile, Cao Limin looked at Lu Laogen and asked, "Lu Laogen, right? Did you help cultivate the land at Old Man Yun's house?"
Lu Laogen's heart trembled, but he forced himself to nod vigorously.
Cao Limin smiled again and said, "Don't be nervous. I called you here for no other reason than to ask you how you farm for Old Man Yun?"
