"What favor do you have for her to appreciate?" Yun Dazheng said bluntly, snatching the food from Yun Wansheng's hand. "You talk a good game... Take it to your house to cook? And like before, cook it and leave half for you to eat slowly, right? Yun Wansheng, you're not a child anymore. It's her business if your mother still treats you like a three-year-old, but it doesn't mean you're actually a three-year-old."
"Look at you, a grown man, don't you have any shame? You're even trying to steal food from a little girl who's only a few years old. Can't you have any self-respect?"
"Who's taking food from her?" After being lectured like this by Yun Dazheng, especially in front of outsiders, Yun Wansheng couldn't save face no matter what. He said indignantly, "She's your granddaughter, but am I not your grandson? You tell me how much you've sacrificed for her, how come when I say one wrong thing, it becomes that I'm taking food from her?"
"Who was it that just wouldn't let go of the wild eggs that Yun Duo picked up, and even tried to take both pheasants back to their own home?" Yun Dazheng asked Yun Wansheng.
It wasn't that Yun Dazheng was reluctant to feed his grandson; it was simply that... Yun Wansheng was born prematurely and wasn't very healthy as a child. His eldest daughter-in-law doted on him, always saving the best and most nutritious food for him. Now he's over twenty and has long since recovered, yet his eldest daughter-in-law still treats him the same way. But when it comes to food, even his four-year-old great-grandson, Yun Xiangwen, can't compare to him in the eldest son's family.
Can we look at the clouds again? The head is big, the body is small, and the child is so thin that he's practically skin and bones. If he doesn't raise the child properly, he's worried that the child won't live to adulthood.
"No, Grandpa," Yun Wansheng said anxiously, somewhat indignantly, "I just said that I only asked my mother to help cook so that everyone could eat together. It's not like I'm eating alone. How is that me being greedy for her? She's just a little girl, how much can she eat? Why would I be greedy for her?"
"Didn't you hear Yun Duo say it was no good? You still have the nerve to snatch it? You still have the nerve to complain?" At this point, Yun Dazheng's brows furrowed tightly as he looked at Yun Wansheng and said, "Yun Wansheng, how old are you? Don't you know how to be ashamed?"
"No, Grandpa, what did I do?" Yun Wansheng looked anxious and agitated, pointing at Yun Duo and saying indignantly, "Even if you're biased, you can't be this biased, can you?"
"You moved to this shabby place because of Yunduo. I came over to help after my afternoon nap and have been busy all afternoon, haven't I? What about her? She was fast asleep inside and didn't even show up until the sun was almost setting. She wouldn't even help out and just made an excuse to leave."
"You didn't say she was being lazy, but you said I was thinking about food."
Even if I'm craving it, it's still something I'm entitled to eat, isn't it?
"It's true that she picked up the pheasant, but since she's with you, shouldn't whatever she brings back be yours? Am I not even allowed to have a bite, being your grandson?"
Why should I?
"Why? I want to know why too!" Yun Dazheng was really angry. He pointed at Yun Wansheng and said, "I gave birth to your father, and your father gave birth to you. Does that mean I owe you something? Do you only feel that I have fulfilled my duty as a grandfather if I extract every last drop of oil from my old bones and give it to you?"
"Yun Wansheng, let me tell you, you raised your father, so you don't owe him anything. And you certainly don't owe him anything! You're over twenty years old; nobody owes you anything!"
"If you think that helping to pass something, helping to lift a ladder, or carrying a few planks is tiring for you, then get out of here! I'm not begging you to do any work for me!"
