Chapter 64 Good Child

"You're so arrogant and ignorant!"

No one took Yun Duo's words seriously, and Yun Youtian was no exception. He glanced at Yun Duo with disdain, then said to Yun Wansheng, "What are you all standing there for? Didn't you hear your grandfather tell us to get lost? Go home!"

“Dad…” Yun Wansheng glanced at the pheasant on the ground with resentment and said, “We’ve been busy here all afternoon. If it weren’t for our help, how would Duo’er have had time to slack off and pick up any pheasants? One of these pheasants on the ground should have been ours!”

Yun Youtian then realized the culprit was here. Looking at Yun Wansheng's pathetic state, he felt even more ashamed and shouted, "Never eaten meat before? Look at you! Have your mother and I ever starved your appetite? Get back here..." He paused, then steeled himself and said, "Tell your mother to give you a dollar to go to Butcher Li's in the next village and buy two pounds of fatty meat..." As he spoke, he glanced at Yun Duo, as if this would somehow salvage his reputation.

After Yun Youtian had been gone for a while, Yun Dazheng seemed to snap out of his daze, gave Lu Zhimin a helpless look, shook his head and said, "Village Chief, I'm so sorry, you must have found this amusing."

Lu Zhimin quickly said, "It's alright, Uncle Yun. You and my aunt are both capable people, and Duo'er is lucky. Even if she can't do heavy work anymore, with the help of the villagers, we'll be able to get by."

What Lu Zhimin said was the truth.

When Yun Dazheng fled from the war-torn area with his wife and children, he was truly penniless. Yet, with his own two hands, he built up a fortune for his two sons that was no less than that of the villagers who had lived there for generations. They were recognized by the entire village, and it must be said that they were capable people.

Yun Dazheng was somewhat disheartened. Looking at Lu Zhimin, he said with a bitter tone, "What can you do? No matter how capable you are, if you don't raise your son well, it's all for nothing..." As he said this, Yun Dazheng's rough hand landed on Yun Duo's head, stroking it several times, and he sighed heavily, "A disgrace to our descendants..."

"Uncle Yun, don't be discouraged. Duo'er is a good girl and will definitely not let you down," Lu Zhimin said earnestly to Yun Dazheng.

"Mmm." Yun Duo knew that Yun Dazheng was feeling a bit disheartened, and the old man was most afraid of being filled with such emotions. Hearing Lu Zhimin's words, she nodded in agreement, put on a smug look, and tugged at Yun Dazheng's hand in a coquettish tone: "Grandpa, Grandpa, Duo'er is good. Duo'er will take good care of you and Grandma from now on, and we'll eat meat every day." As she spoke, she deliberately swallowed.

“This child…” Yun Dazheng finally smiled, patted Yun Duo’s head and said, “As long as Duo’er is alright, Grandpa and Grandma will be happier even if we eat coarse food and wild vegetables than if we eat meat every day.”

“That won’t do…” Yun Duo shook her head seriously and said, “If we say we’re going to eat meat every day, then we’re going to eat meat every day until we don’t want to eat anymore…” As she spoke, she saw her eldest cousin Yun Fusheng, whose hands, head, and face were covered in mud, come out of the kitchen. She pointed at Yun Fusheng and said with a smile, “If you don’t want to eat anymore, then give it to your eldest cousin. Don’t give it to anyone else.”

Upon seeing Yun Fusheng, Lu Zhimin nodded and said, "Uncle, you see, Fusheng is a good boy too."

Seeing Yun Fusheng looking as if he had crawled out of the mud, Yun Dazheng was very relieved and said kindly, "Fusheng, is the stove repaired?"
