After Qian Duoduo and the others settled in the county town, Qian Duoduo took out the steamed buns that Jin Jinxiu had prepared for them and said, "You guys are really lucky. My mother just came back a couple of days ago, and when I got home today, she was steaming big steamed buns. Hehe, I brought some with me. Although they're not as hot as when they were fresh out of the steamer, they're still delicious with my mother's mushroom and chicken sauce."
Guo Ni smiled and said, "Now that you mention it, I feel like I'm incredibly lucky. My second aunt's cooking skills are among the best in our Beian Village. I'm going to wash my hands, so please save me three big steamed buns later."
Liu Yuan deliberately said in a shrill voice, "What? Three? Comrade Guo Ni, how come you ate three in one go?"
Guo Ni washed her hands and returned, looking at Liu Yuan with a hint of ruthlessness on her face, she said, "Comrade Liu Yuan, do you have a problem with me?"
Liu Yuan was truly a woman of few words but dared to speak her mind: "What opinion could I possibly have? It's just that if you think three of you aren't enough, I can give you one more."
Guo Ni looked at Liu Yuan and nodded: "Okay, I'll have one of yours."
Liu Yuan looked at Qian Duoduo with a pitiful expression: "Duoduo, why is Guo Zhiqing so scary?"
Guo Ni: "Liu Zhiqing, I'm still here. Are you afraid I can't hear you because you're speaking so loudly?"
Liu Yuan immediately shook her head: "No, no!"
Qian Duoduo laughed heartily: "Sister Liu Yuan, how about that? My sister-in-law is amazing! Her family's Bagua Palm technique, if she hits you, you'll be dead!"
Liu Yuan shoved Qian Duoduo: "Go away, you brat! You've eaten so much of my food and heard so much of my gossip, and now you're not even helping me!"
Qian Duoduo laughed and said, "I'm just siding with my family, not with what's right. Look, there are six of us, including my third brother. Guo Ni is my cousin's wife, and he's my third brother, who shares the same parents. How do you have the guts to fight this all alone?"
Liu Yuan glanced at the six people, then looked at Yun Yi and Feng Niaoniao sitting together, and immediately said, "Oh my, how long have I been stuck in your Qian family's nest?"
Qian Duoduo shook her index finger: "You're wrong." She pointed at Qian Mao and said, "If you marry him, you'll be considered to have fallen into the Qian family's nest."
Qian Mao immediately shook his head and said, "Well, I'm not thinking about finding a partner right now. Besides, I'm going to study in the provincial capital in a while, so I won't get involved with you guys."
Qian Duoduo was taken aback: "What? Third Brother, aren't you taking the college entrance exam?"
Qian Mao shook his head and said, "I really don't have time right now. I've discussed this with Secretary Lu, and besides, I've forgotten everything I learned from my teachers. It's really hard for me to concentrate on studying like you guys do when I pick up a book."
Secretary Lu was really at his wit's end. He said he would still recommend me to go to school if I had the chance, but I didn't know which school he was referring to.
Qian Duoduo felt a little regretful, but since her third brother was unwilling, there was nothing she could do.
While everyone was eating the steamed buns that Qian Duoduo had brought in the county town, Liu Wan and Tan Jian were standing at the door of Liu Yuan's house. Liu Wan said, "Hasn't she come back yet?"
Tan Jian sighed and said, "It's dark inside, so they probably aren't home."
Liu Wan said, "Yun Yi and Feng Niaoniao are nowhere to be found, not even in Liu Garden. What have they been up to?"
Tan Jian looked at Liu Wan, unsure if he truly still harbored those feelings for her. When Liu Wan's mother came, he simply didn't want anyone to know about his somewhat unusual fetish, so he thought that if he were with her, no one would know.
However, with the college entrance exam just around the corner, if I can really leave this place, I won't have to see Liu Wan's disgusting face anymore.
Liu Wan rubbed her hands, which were stiff from the cold, and said in a mournful tone, "I wonder if something might happen since she's not home so late."
Tan Jian looked at her without saying a word.
Liu Wan said this, but no one cooperated with her, and she cursed inwardly: "Idiot!"
Tan Jian was just waiting to go to the county town to take the exam early the day after tomorrow. The brigade leader was a good man. He arranged for an oxcart to take the villagers who were going to take the college entrance exam early in the morning. When Tan Jian and Liu Wan arrived, there were already many people on the oxcart.
Liu Wan looked around and didn't see Liu Yuan. She said, "Tan Jian, go and see why Liu Yuan and the others aren't here?"
Tan Jian glanced at the few seats left in the car and said, "I'm not going. If you want to go, go by yourself. They're your relatives, not mine."
After he finished speaking, he got on the cart. Liu Wan saw that he was tall and strong, and once he got on, there was much less room. Finally, she gritted her teeth and climbed onto the oxcart as well.
Tan Jian cursed inwardly, "What a hypocrite, wanting to have your cake and eat it too!"
When their oxcart swayed and bumped its way to the gate of the county middle school, there were already many people there. Everyone was very quiet, and no one was exchanging pleasantries with each other.
Liu Wan looked around the school gate again and found that Liu Yuan and the others were still not there. She said to Mu Tingting beside her, "Tingting."
Mu Tingting raised her hand and said, "We're not that close, there's no need to call each other so affectionately."
Liu Wan's face immediately darkened. This educated youth, Mu, was truly as stubborn and unyielding as a rock in a latrine. Before, she could only exchange a few words with Zhou Lina in the educated youth compound, but ever since Zhou Lina fell into the water and was rescued by the villagers, she stopped associating with Zhou Lina.
No matter how careful Zhou Lina was, she ignored everyone.
Just as her thoughts were wandering, a voice reached her ears: "Duoduo, there are so many people here!"
