Qian Duoduo said, "I thought about this problem when the greenhouse was being built, so I came up with some solutions during construction. However, these were all my ideas during the calculations. But no matter how many calculations you do, they are not as good as practice. That's why they say that practice is the only criterion for verifying the truth!"
Professor Yuan nodded and said, "The temperature has been dropping these past two days, but I think the temperature inside the greenhouse is alright!"
Qian Duoduo nodded and said, "The temperature in the greenhouse also drops, but not as noticeably as outside."
Professor Yuan nodded and said, "These past few days, Liang Kun and you have been observing the vegetables in the greenhouse together. Let's see how practical this greenhouse is!"
Liang Kun nodded immediately; he was also very curious about the greenhouse!
Three days later, Xinjiang Province was hit by a heavy snowfall. The people in the camp were worried about the greenhouses when they saw the heavy snow. Qian Duoduo was reading a book by the headboard when Liang Kun knocked on the door. Qian Duoduo opened the door and Liang Kun asked, "Duoduo, what do you think will happen to the greenhouses outside?"
Qian Duoduo looked at the heavy snow outside. The walls here were as thick as those in houses in Northeast China, and they were also insulated. There was even a stove inside. Qian Duoduo said, "I don't know either!"
Liang Kun asked, "Aren't you worried?"
Qian Duoduo: "What can we do if we're worried? We can't get out, and if we do, we can't come back. Are we supposed to spend the night in the greenhouse? That would be very dangerous at night."
Liang Kun choked: "No, are you really not worried?"
Qian Duoduo: "Why don't you go back and rest first? Even if you stay here, I can't give you any answers."
Liang Kun sighed, turned and left. When he got to Professor Yuan's place, he saw Professor Yuan looking out at the heavy snow. He asked, "Professor, with such heavy snow, won't there be any problems with the greenhouse?"
Professor Yuan shook his head and said, "Does Duoduo really worry as much as you do?"
Liang Kun was taken aback. Thinking of how Qian Duoduo didn't seem too worried, he suddenly realized that he was the only one who was truly nervous!
Lu Jinghuai was also very worried about the greenhouse, so he brought three people to the greenhouse and saw a surprising scene. The wind and snow seemed to be unusual here, but he couldn't say why. After all, the weather couldn't be controlled by human beings!
He walked into the greenhouse and found that the temperature inside was indeed much higher than outside. Many of the seedlings inside had already sprouted. Lu Jinghuai was very happy. Even though the wind and snow were heavy outside, the faint green inside still made him feel quite good!
Lu Jinghuai returned to the camp very quickly. When the instructor saw that he had taken off his general's coat and hat, he asked, "What have you been doing?"
Lu Jinghuai said with a smile, "I went to the greenhouse. The temperature inside is really high, and the corn seedlings have already sprouted and are doing very well."
The instructor smiled and said, "That's good?"
Lu Jinghuai nodded and said, "Very good. The temperature inside is higher than here. I looked around from the outside and didn't find any problems."
The instructor nodded: "That's good."
The heavy snow lasted for three days. After the snow stopped, the four battalion commanders began organizing their soldiers to clear the snow. Naturally, the first road to be cleared was the one leading directly to the greenhouses. Even Lu Cheng followed them to the greenhouses. He saw that there wasn't much snow there, in fact, very little. When he went inside and saw the green seedlings that had already sprouted, everyone was very happy.
Standing behind Lu Cheng, Lu Jinghuai looked at the thriving rice seedlings and smiled. He said, "Commander, I didn't expect this location to be so good. The wind and snow don't stop here. Look, the snow around here is very thick."
Lu Cheng nodded and said, "That's right, the snow here is obviously much lighter than the one next to it. It seems that Qian Duoduo's ability to survey the terrain wasn't entirely useless!"
Lu Jinghuai said with a smile, "Commander, this is all thanks to connections!"
Lu Cheng laughed: "You little rascal! You got it!"
Professor Yuan led Qian Duoduo and Liang Kun to the greenhouse, where they saw that the vegetable seedlings were growing vigorously and the stove inside was already burning. As soon as they entered, they could clearly feel the temperature rising. The green peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant seedlings that Qian Duoduo had initially cultivated had also grown quite tall.
Professor Yuan said upon seeing this, "The plants here are growing quite well, but pollination of these flowers is a problem."
Qian Duoduo nodded and said, "I've already mentioned this to Battalion Commander Lu. He said that we can use artificial pollination to ensure the growth of the vegetables. We can start eating some of the celery, leeks, rapeseed, and other vegetables over there."
Professor Yuan nodded, walked through the four greenhouses, and said, "This place is really nice, much better than the greenhouses we have in Northeast China."
Qian Duoduo said, "Teacher, Commander Lu promised me that as soon as the first batch of vegetables here comes out, he'll treat me to a whole roasted lamb. Hehe, what do you think, teacher?"
Professor Yuan laughed: "It seems that this old man is going to be in for a treat. Once the vegetables here are grown, we need to make preparations for going to Hainan Island. My second brother is already waiting for me there; he's even sending letters from the southernmost part of the island to urge me on."
Upon hearing this, Qian Duoduo immediately said somewhat embarrassedly, "I'm sorry, teacher, because I'm helping to build a greenhouse at the campsite here, which has affected your schedule."
Professor Yuan smiled and waved his hand, saying, "No need for that. You did the right thing. Our own soldiers are protecting our country's borders. How can we let them go hungry? That's what we're learning. Since we've learned it, we should put it into practice. That's how we can make our hard work worthwhile."
