After Wen Yugui, Qian Rao, and Qian Mao left Aunt Wen's house, Wen Yuqiao immediately jumped up from the sofa and said to Aunt Wen, "Let me see all the things that little bitch gave me."
Aunt Wen ignored him and tried to pack her things up, but Wen Yuqiao stepped forward, pushed her aside, and snatched the things away.
Just then, Wen's uncle, who had just returned from get off work, saw this scene and, without saying a word, pulled out his belt and gave Wen Yuqiao a good beating.
Wen Yuqiao was only fourteen or fifteen years old after all. It was a bit of a stretch for him to go toe-to-toe with his uncle, who had served in the army and was strong. He was whipped and howled, while his aunt just stood by and watched coldly.
Wen Yuqiao felt a surge of resentment. Wen Dashan and Qiao Jiao had abandoned him here and left him to be beaten twice. He was even more resentful that his aunt had stood by and watched him being beaten without offering any help.
Uncle Wen looked at Aunt Wen and asked, "Where are his parents?"
Aunt Wen said, "They should have gone to the bus station; they're going home."
Uncle Wen stood up, grabbed the boy, and headed towards the bus station. Wen Yuqiao called out as they walked, and each time he called out, he got a slap. After three times, he quieted down.
Uncle Wen found Wen Dashan and Qiao Jiao arguing at the long-distance bus station, pushed Wen Yuqiao towards them, and said, "Take this kid away and don't let him cause trouble in my house."
Looking at his wife's brother and sister-in-law, who were somewhat dumbfounded, he said coldly, "The three of you should come to our house less often in the future. You only cause unpleasantness in the family. If you can leave, then leave; if you can't, then pretend you never had any relatives."
Wen Dashan and Qiao Jiao were dumbfounded. If Aunt Wen had said these words, they might not have been so scared, but since they came from Uncle Wen's mouth, they both trembled.
Watching Uncle Wen clap his hands and leave the train station, Qiao Jiao immediately grabbed Wen Yuqiao and said, "You were staying at your aunt's house perfectly fine, why were you sent back?"
Wen Yuqiao shook off her hand, sat down on the chair next to her, and said, "That bitch Wen Yugui made her man beat me and said that you bullied that bitch, so you beat me in retaliation. And my aunt just stood by and watched me get beaten without helping me."
At this point, he said even more angrily, "That bitch Wen Yugui even sent my aunt a bag of things, saying it was from someone from Hainan Island. There were fish in it, and some things I didn't recognize. I wanted to take some back to my grandmother, so I pushed my aunt and snatched the things away. But my uncle saw it and beat me up."
Qiao Jiao's expression immediately changed, and she said, "How could his uncle beat you? That's going too far."
Wen Dashan then asked, "You want to snatch the things and take them back to your grandmother, is that right?"
Wen Yuqiao tilted his head and said, "If we don't give them to our two grandmas, who will we give them to? Shouldn't we give all the good things in our family to our grandmas?"
Wen Dashan glanced at Qiao Jiao, who had her head down, and said, "Good, well said. We must give your grandma any good things we have."
Wen Yuqiao was still young and didn't realize that Wen Dashan was being sarcastic.
But Qiao Jiao's expression immediately turned sour. She looked up at Wen Dashan and said, "Um, Dashan..."
Wen Dashan said calmly, "In that case, let's go home first."
Qiao Jiao did not expect Wen Dashan's attitude to be like this. They could only buy Wen Yuqiao a ticket and return to their hometown of Wuchang to spend a tasteless New Year.
On the second day of the Lunar New Year, Qiao Jiao wanted to buy some things to take back to her parents' home, but Wen Dashan refused to give her a single penny, saying, "Our family is already broke. It's hard to even afford meat this New Year. If you want to go back to your parents' home, I don't have a single penny to give you."
Qiao Jiao said, "How can you go back to your parents' home without bringing anything?"
Wen Dashan snorted and said, "You can afford to build a house for your brother, so what's a meal at home?" Qiao Jiao immediately fell silent after those words.
She knew that Qiao Dashan still harbored resentment towards her for lending money to her younger brother and his family to build houses.
As a result, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, they returned to the bride's parents' home empty-handed, which drew ridicule from Qiao Jiao's mother, sister-in-law, and others.
Wen Yugui didn't care about any of this. As long as Wen Dashan and the others didn't come looking for her, she wouldn't care about them. After all, when she was working like a slave in that family, none of them cared about her. Wen Yuqiao's words were full of malice.
Qian Rao felt sorry for his wife and told his parents about what happened at Aunt Wen's house. This made Jin Jinxiu feel even more sorry for Wen Yugui, and she didn't even bother to scold Qian Mao anymore.
This relieved Qian Mao, who tried his best to keep a low profile, but his attempt to do so failed. When the villagers heard that he had returned, they all came to his house to greet him.
In particular, when some people saw that Qian Gui was doing very well in Harbin, they all thought about asking Qian Mao to give him a hand.
Qian Mao looked helplessly at the old Party Secretary and said, "Grandpa, it's not that I don't want to help, but I no longer work in Harbin. I'm in college now. What can a college student like me do to help?"
The old Party Secretary was taken aback: "No, why would you give up being a perfectly good secretary to the mayor to go to university?"
The people who came with the old Party Secretary were also stunned. They couldn't understand why a college student could be as sought after as the mayor's secretary.
Qian Mao said, "Mayor Lu said that my education level was too low and that I should go to university."
Now everyone was speechless. There is a difference between a high school diploma and a college diploma!
