Lingyun set off from Guangzhou with his son and daughter, arriving at Qiannan Island on the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month.
Seeing Qian Duoduo come to pick her up, Ling Yun was very happy. She carried her daughter and walked in front, while Qian Yixuan followed behind carrying a small package. He was also very happy to see his aunt. He whispered to Qian Duoduo about what had happened to him recently, and occasionally received a response from Qian Duoduo.
Back in the military compound, Ling Yun immediately fell in love with the clean and tidy courtyard with its clusters of flowers, especially the row of grapevines and the rocking chair beneath them. This courtyard was exactly the kind of place he wanted.
He walked into the room and saw that it was a two-bedroom suite with a separate toilet and bathroom, which added to Ling Yun's surprise.
The smaller room contained some of the girl's belongings, and she knew this was Qian Duoduo's room. When she went to the master bedroom, she saw that it was just like Qian Feng's style—simple and efficient.
Qian Duoduo smiled and helped Ling Yun put the belongings of the mother and her two children next to the wardrobe in the master bedroom. Then she said to Ling Yun, "Sister-in-law, you and Le Ran can rest in this room for a while. Yi Xuan and I will rest in my room." After saying that, she took Qian Yi Xuan to her room. Fortunately, there were large beds and it was spacious enough for them.
Qian Yuxuan lay on the bed, smiling as he looked at Qian Duoduo. Qian Duoduo affectionately pinched his little nose, which made Qian Yuxuan frown. He said, "Auntie, why haven't you come to see me for so long?"
Qian Duoduo sighed and said, "It's inconvenient for my aunt to come and go with her here! Besides, I need to study with my teacher, so I can't leave either!"
Qian Yixuan asked in surprise, "Auntie, you're so old already, do you still need to study?"
Qian Duoduo said, "People should always learn. As the great man said, 'One should never stop learning.'"
Qian Yixuan said, "My mother once told me, 'If you don't work hard when you're young, you'll regret it when you're old,' right?"
Qian Duoduo pinched her little nephew's nose again and said, "You're right!" Watching Qian Yixuan slowly close his eyes and fall asleep, she stood up and went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
When they finished eating, Qian Feng hadn't returned. While Ling Yun and Qian Duoduo were having dinner with their two children, they learned that Qian Duoduo's teacher, Professor Yuan, was also in Qiannan Island.
Ling Yun immediately said, "We'll all be spending the New Year on this island this year. Let's invite Professor Yuan and your senior brother over too; it'll be more lively with more people. I just don't know what your teacher likes to eat. If you have time tomorrow, go to Hainan Island and buy some of his favorite dishes."
Qian Duoduo listened to Ling Yun's words with a smile, knowing that this showed her respect for her teacher. She pulled Ling Yun and said, "Sister-in-law, you don't need to buy anything. I've already prepared everything. Besides, my teacher loves my cooking the most. He loves everything I make."
Ling Yun couldn't help but laugh at these words. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them; Qian Duoduo's cooking skills were indeed excellent, perfectly inheriting her mother-in-law's culinary talents. She imagined whoever married her would have an endless supply of delicious food.
She couldn't help but envy that annoying young man who could marry a beautiful wife. It was just a pity that there were no suitable boys in her family, otherwise, she would definitely arrange a marriage between relatives.
Ling Yun's arrival also gave the people in the family compound a glimpse into their lives. The Qian Regiment Commander's family was a mystery to the other military wives, but after arriving, they learned that his wife was the district party secretary of Yangcheng City. She was not only beautiful and capable, but also had a job and a son and a daughter. Such a wife was already beyond the reach of most military wives, not to mention that she was a second-generation military officer.
Even though many people say that Qian Feng is clinging to his father-in-law's coattails, it's not certain now. With such a capable wife, it's hard to say who's the one holding the power now. It just makes you wonder how this whole family is so powerful.
This also made the men in the compound start to restrain those military wives who used to gossip behind their backs, because they really didn't want to leave a reputation with their division commander for bullying other people's daughters.
Lingyun and Qian Duoduo prepared the New Year's Eve dinner together, and the aroma wafted so far that several families near Qian Feng's house felt that their own dishes had lost their original color, aroma, and flavor.
So the children in the nearby houses were all clamoring for delicious food. The men looked at the dishes and smelled the aroma wafting in the air, and sighed inwardly. Although the troupe leader's sister didn't often show off her cooking skills, the time she invited Political Commissar Nan was particularly memorable. Those who weren't invited felt a little sad, sad that their relationship with the troupe leader wasn't close enough.
Qian Feng was, after all, the regimental commander, so on New Year's Eve, he had to visit various camps to offer his condolences. Therefore, he was not at home during the day, and all the things at home were done by Ling Yun and Qian Duoduo.
Professor Yuan sat in a rocking chair under the grape trellis in the courtyard, fanning himself as he told stories to Qian Yixuan and his sister. He noticed that Qian Yixuan was exceptionally intelligent; he could remember things after hearing them only once and even apply them to other situations. This made him appreciate his talent. However, since he was still just a child, Professor Yuan didn't make too many demands. He simply kept this in mind, planning to tell Qian Feng when he returned that this child needed to be nurtured properly.
Lingyun, who was helping in the kitchen, had a clear understanding of her own cooking skills, so she left the New Year's Eve dinner to Qian Duoduo. However, while Qian Duoduo was making various preparations, Lingyun's main job was to hand over things or help watch the fire.
Professor Yuan looked at the ten dishes and said with a smile, "Can just the few of us eat all of this?"
Qian Duoduo smiled and said, "The New Year is all about having everything complete and happy, so these ten dishes plus these eight plates of dumplings make it perfect, and bring wealth from all directions."
