Chapter 39 Qian Duoduo: My Uncle's Family!

Qian Mao bent down and grabbed the motionless rabbit in the pit with one hand. He quickly tied its four legs together, and then tied another rope around its neck to prevent it from lowering its head to bite the rope binding its legs. He then stood up and slowly took it out: "Fourth brother, this is a female rabbit. There should be baby rabbits inside."

Qian Duoduo's eyes lit up: "Can I keep this as a pet? I want a little rabbit."

Qian Rao smiled and said, "Tell your mother when you get home that you found a rabbit, and she'll save you a little one."

Qian Duoduo nodded immediately. Qian Rao looked at Qian Duoduo and thought that even with her face dirty, her younger sister was still very cute.

Not long after, Qian Mao brought out another rabbit: "This one is male, maybe they're from the same family."

Qian Duoduo smiled and said, "That would be great."

Just as Qian Mao had emerged from the pit and the three siblings were about to head home, they saw a brownish-yellow rabbit fall into the pit again.

Qian Duoduo looked at her two older brothers and said, "That's exactly how I waited for the rabbit to come to me."

Qian Mao laughed: "Qian Duoduo, is that how you use idioms?"

Qian Duoduo laughed: "Third Brother, go down and deal with it. I want to eat spicy rabbit meat today."

Qian Mao smiled and ruffled Qian Duoduo's messy hair before taking a sickle and going to cut grass.

When the three siblings met up with Guo Ni and Qian Gui, Qian Mao gave Qian Gui the last rabbit he had caught and said, "Take it home and have your aunt cook it."

Guo Ni said with a smile, "Oh, you caught rabbits! What a coincidence, I caught two too. Take them back for your second uncle and aunt to eat."

Qian Mao saw the two motionless rabbits hidden in the firewood in Guo Ni's firewood, nodded and said, "When it comes to hunting, it has to be Sister-in-law. We all rely on luck, but Sister-in-law is truly skilled."

Guo Ni said with a smile, "I originally wanted to give one to my second uncle, but when I saw that you caught one too, I took it home and had my mother cook it."

Qian Mao nodded. It would be best if both families benefited. He appreciated the mutual care and concern shown by the elder sister-in-law. She was a generous person and worth befriending.

The siblings parted ways upon returning to the village. When the others saw Qian Mao, Qian Rao, Qian Gui, Guo Ni, and others carrying wild grass back, they didn't say anything. Besides the fact that the Qian family was quite united, everyone was also gathering wild grass to dry for firewood, so there was nothing wrong with it.

Qian Duoduo walked at the very back and closed the gate as soon as she entered the courtyard.

Jin Jinxiu was taken aback by her little girl's actions. When she saw Qian Mao pull a rabbit out of the grass, she immediately understood. In this day and age, most of the things on the mountain belong to the public. Although people would not say anything if they occasionally hunted wild game, if the smell of meat came out of someone's house, people would really stand at the door with their bowls in hand to smell it.

She initially thought it was just one, but when she saw Qian Rao take one out of his grass as well, she exclaimed with delight, "We can keep this one for now and eat it in a few days."

Qian Mao took the small basket from Qian Duoduo, picked out another rabbit from it, and said, "Mom, this rabbit should have baby rabbits. We can keep it. Duoduo said she wants to keep a baby rabbit."

Jin Jinxiu looked at the three rabbits in front of her and asked, "Did your sister-in-law Guo catch these?"

Qian Mao smiled and said, "We have to thank Duo Duo for all of this. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have been able to get so many rabbits." Then he told Jin Jinxiu how Qian Duo Duo found the rabbits and how they watched the third rabbit fall into the pit. This time, Jin Jinxiu reached out and touched Qian Duo Duo's dirty little face and said, "Our Duo Duo is quite lucky."

Qian Duoduo smiled and said, "Then Mother is even more blessed."

Jin Jinxiu was taken aback, then realized what she meant and said with a smile, "Yes, Mother is the most blessed. Having you brothers is the greatest blessing."

Qian Mao said with a smile, "We caught three. Sister-in-law Guo caught two herself. We'll keep this female for now, and send the bigger one to my uncle's family. We'll eat this one ourselves."

Jin Jinxiu nodded and said, "Okay."

Qian Mao said, "I'll go through the back mountain in a bit, so it won't be good if anyone sees me."

Jin Jinxiu nodded. Qian Mao and Qian Rao had traveled the road to her uncle's house countless times, so she wasn't too worried. She pulled Qian Duoduo to get her some water to wash her face.

Qian Mao tidied himself up, tied the rabbit up again, put it in his backpack, and went out through the back door. Unlike the front door, there weren't many people here. It only took about ten minutes to walk west from the back door to get out of the village, where there was a road leading to Yuanbao Village.

Jin Jinxiu's family home is in Yuanbao Village. The Jin family was formed when the old man Jin was begging for food in his youth. He married the old woman Jin, who only had one daughter. The two had two children: the eldest daughter Jin Jinxiu and the youngest son Jin Kuohao.

When Grandma Jin was young, her family was relatively well-off. Grandpa Jin was a blacksmith who could shoe horses, and they had a little money, enough to send their daughter to school for a few years. Later, war broke out, and she couldn't continue her studies. But because Grandma Jin had been educated, she despised the men who coveted her family's small fortune. She even declared that she would only take in a son-in-law, not marry outside the family, and would not support her in-laws. This condition directly deterred many men, no matter how harsh their gossip was. Grandpa Jin was worried about his daughter's attitude. Finally, a beggar came along and, for the sake of his own food, agreed to marry into the family.

Unexpectedly, after Old Man Jin cleaned himself up, he looked quite good, so Old Lady Jin agreed. The two of them got together, and since they both had the surname Jin, they didn't have any trouble deciding whose surname to take. They lived a long and loving life together.
