As night fell, a rich aroma wafted from the Qian family home shortly after their return, indicating that a sumptuous dinner was being quietly prepared in the kitchen. The chefs for this culinary feast—Jin Jinxiu and her daughter—were busy at work, and soon, the beautifully presented and fragrant dishes were brought to the table. Everyone couldn't help but swallow hard at the aroma, exchanging knowing glances as they looked at the food on the next table. "The boss's cooking smells so good," they thought, "no wonder Chief Engineer Lu is keeping such a close eye on things!"
Everyone sat down at the table, and Qian Sheng said with a smile, "Let's eat!"
As soon as everyone picked up their chopsticks to start eating, the food tasted quite good. Not only did the bodyguards devour their food and praise it highly, but even Yoon Eun-hee, who is usually extremely particular about her diet and eats as little as cat food to maintain her perfect figure, couldn't resist the delicious temptation this time and ate two large bowls of rice! In the end, she was so full that she could only lean lazily against the sofa and gently rub her slightly protruding belly.
"Oh my, boss, your cooking is absolutely delicious!" Yoon Eun-hee said with a big smile, rubbing her tummy. "I've decided, I'm going to be your assistant for life. If I could serve you such delicious food every day, it would be the greatest blessing in life!"
Hearing this, Qian Duoduo couldn't help but chuckle: "You little girl, how can you be so unambitious? You'd actually sell your whole life just for a bite to eat!" As she spoke, she playfully reached out and touched Yin Enxi's slightly protruding belly.
Feeling her boss's "love," Yoon Eun-hee continued, "Boss, it's really great to be your assistant. It would be wonderful if we could eat such delicious meals every day. But if that happens, my diet will be a long way off!"
Upon hearing this, Jin Jinxiu chimed in with a grin, "Actually, it's fine for women to be a little chubby. Good health is the most important thing! Being too thin can actually make you more prone to illness."
However, Yoon Eun-hee disagreed. She shook her head and insisted, "But I still think it looks better to be thinner."
Jin Jinxiu smiled faintly, shook her head gently, and then fell silent.
Qian Sheng was sitting upright on the sofa, holding a steaming cup of tea in his hand. After taking a leisurely sip, he said, "Duoduo, go out tomorrow and bring your grandma over. Ever since your grandpa passed away, she has been living alone in that courtyard. I have tried to persuade her many times, but she still refuses to move in with us. This time, you can try to persuade her."
Upon hearing this, Qian Duoduo nodded without hesitation and replied, "Okay! Dad, don't worry, I will do my best to bring Grandma Shi over."
Back then, if it weren't for his master's intervention, Qian Sheng would probably be dead by now! That's why Qian Sheng has stayed in Beian Village all these years. Qian Sheng suggested that the old village secretary and his wife live with him, not only to take care of them, but also to properly repay their life-saving kindness!
Grandma Shi never agreed to live with them and stayed in those two dilapidated thatched huts. Every time Qian Sheng suggested that she live with him, Grandma Shi would shake her head and say, "Every part of this place was built by the old man himself. If I leave, this house will fall into disrepair, and then his traces will be gone."
Qian Sheng had indeed noticed more than once that his grandmother often sat quietly alone in the courtyard, her eyes vacant, as if immersed in another world, lost in thought. Sometimes, she would unconsciously mutter a few words, but the sound was so faint and indistinct that Qian Sheng couldn't understand what she was saying at all. This made Qian Sheng very curious and puzzled, and he secretly wondered what his grandmother was muttering about.
The next morning, after breakfast, Qian Duoduo couldn't wait to go to her grandmother's house. She gently pushed open the old wooden door and carefully stepped into the yard. As soon as she entered, she saw her grandmother sitting in an old-fashioned wooden chair, slowly combing her long, snow-white hair. Sunlight fell on her, creating a serene yet somewhat melancholic scene.
Qian Duoduo hurriedly stepped forward and greeted Grandma Shi warmly, "Good morning, Grandma Shi!" However, to her surprise, Grandma Shi seemed completely unaware of her arrival and continued to mutter those incomprehensible words to herself.
Qian Duoduo lowered her head and listened carefully. She heard Grandma Shi say in a soft, slightly trembling voice, "Old man, I knew you were still worried about me. You waited for me at the village entrance for so long, weren't you tired? Tell me, where is our Jiezi now? Has he been reincarnated and gone to a new family? If that's the case, he should be over thirty years old by now, maybe already married and settled down." Grandma Shi repeated these words over and over, as if she was lost in her own world, unable to extricate herself.
A strange feeling welled up in Qian Duoduo's heart; she felt that the atmosphere today was a bit off. She composed herself and greeted Grandma Shi again in a soft voice, "Grandma Shi, it's me, Duoduo. I've come to visit you!" However, Grandma Shi seemed completely immersed in her own world and did not respond to Qian Duoduo's greeting at all.
Grandma Shi calmly combed her hair before stepping into the house. She took a package from the wardrobe; the package looked quite old. When Qian Duoduo's gaze fell on it, her pupils contracted sharply, because the package was all too familiar to her. In almost every rural household with elderly members, there was usually a similar package hidden in their room. Normally, these packages were kept hidden away.
