Chapter 74 Qian Duoduo: What you've done is quite something!

This year, Wen Yugui spent the Spring Festival at the Qian family's house because her aunt received a letter from her younger brother, Wen Dashan, who wanted to bring Qiao Jiao to visit her before the Spring Festival. He also invited her aunt to visit her parents' home on the second day of the Lunar New Year. The letter also expressed his hope that she could bring Wen Yuzhu home for a visit.

Although Aunt Wen didn't quite understand her younger brother's thoughts, after talking with Wen Yuzhu, she agreed to go back together. After talking with Wen Yugui, Wen Yugui said that she would not return to Wuchang County.

Wen Yugui told Qian Rao about Wen Dashan's letter. Qian Rao wanted Wen Yugui to come to his home for the New Year, but he couldn't make the decision on this matter. Moreover, Qian Sheng and Jin Jinxiu's consent were also required.

He went home and talked to his parents about it. Jin Jinxiu said, "You two are not married, yet you come to our house for the New Year. This is not good for Yu Gui's reputation."

Qian Sheng looked at Qian Rao, who said, "Mother, when Yu Gui's father comes to Shangzhi, he will definitely ask her about her. She finally escaped from that quagmire, and I don't want her to fall into it again!"

Jin Jinxiu sighed and said, "Fourth son, I know you feel sorry for that girl Yu Gui. To be honest, I feel sorry for her too after hearing about what happened to her. But son, there is something I must say. Yu Gui is not your wife yet. It is inappropriate for her to come to our house for the New Year. If her father finds out about this, then our family will be the one to suffer."

Qian Rao fell silent. He understood what his mother was saying, but he couldn't bear to see Yu Gui sad. Everyone else was having a family reunion, but she was all alone.

Qian Sheng thought for a moment and said, "Fourth brother, are you determined to marry no one but her?"

One sentence made Qian Rao and Jin Jinxiu both look at Qian Sheng.

Qian Rao lowered his head and thought for a moment before saying, "Dad, I don't know if the feelings between Yu Gui and me are the kind of love that is described in stories, but I just thought about it and realized that if she were not in my life, I would be very sad and my heart would ache. I just felt like I had lost a part of myself."

I think that's why I want to spend my life with her!

Qian Sheng and Jin Jinxiu were both surprised that Qian Rao would say such a thing. They exchanged a glance and saw the surprise in each other's eyes. Finally, Qian Sheng made the decision: "Alright, since you've made up your mind, then let's do it!"

Jin Jinxiu glanced at Qian Sheng, and although she still disagreed somewhat, she didn't say anything.

Later, she told He Ying about this, and He Ying said, "Fourth Brother is really serious about this. If you object, don't let him drift away from you. Besides, didn't Fourth Brother's future wife say she would take care of you two in your old age? If you object, don't let her know. She'll feel uncomfortable, and in the end, you'll be the one who suffers!"

Jin Jinxiu muttered, "I'm just afraid people will talk behind Lao Si's back."

He Ying snorted: "You're overthinking things. Who is your man? He's the village head of Beian Village. To put it bluntly, everyone in the village has to follow his lead. How come you have no sense of responsibility at all? And you're still talking behind people's backs. I'd like to see who dares to complain. With these young men of our family standing there, I'll teach them a lesson they won't forget!"

Looking at He Ying, Jin Jinxiu realized that she wanted to be like her sister-in-law, but she just couldn't learn to be like her.

On the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, Qian Rao came to Aunt Wen's house with New Year's greetings. Aunt Wen had a very good impression of this young man. In addition, Qian Rao's appearance also added to his appeal. She never expected that her niece could find such an excellent young man for herself.

After Qian Rao left with Wen Yugui, Aunt Wen said, "This young man made a good choice."

Looking at the chicken and bottle of wine on the ground, Uncle Wen smiled and said, "This young man's family is quite well-off!"

Aunt Wen nodded and said, "The family members are from the village, they farm, and they brought some things with them, which means they value Yu Gui."

Uncle Wen looked at the chicken and carried it to the kitchen. Just as he was about to take the bottle of wine, he saw a hand snatch it away before he could reach it. He said, "Let me see it too!"

Aunt Wen said without turning her head, "What are you looking at? What's so interesting?"

Uncle Wen curled his lip and scoffed, "Tch, isn't this wine just for drinking?" But he dared not say these words out loud, otherwise the people in the kitchen would dare to come out with rolling pins. It's better to keep quiet!

Qian Rao took Wen Yugui back to Beian Village, but he didn't make a big fuss about it. He told Wen Yugui that they weren't married, and that taking her home for the New Year wasn't in accordance with custom, but he didn't want her to face her father alone, nor did he want her to spend the New Year alone in the dormitory.

Wen Yugui smiled and said, "I feel so happy that you brought me back. Qian Rao, I think it's my luck to have met you and your family. Maybe all the misfortunes I experienced before were just so that I could meet you!"

Qian Rao smiled and said, "Then you'll be very lucky from now on."

The two looked at each other and smiled. Years later, when they recalled this moment, their hearts were filled with happiness!

In the New Year of 1976, the Qian family had a new baby girl. Jin Jinxiu led them in making dumplings and staying up all night with the children.

Wen Yugui was chatting with Qian Duoduo in Qian Duoduo's room. She said, "I went to school when I was little, but after my mother passed away, I never read a book again. I was able to work as a dishwasher in a state-run restaurant because I knew a few words."

So I told my younger brother that he must study, and study hard, so he wouldn't end up like me, struggling with everything. I remember the chef saying that, using four words: "something difficult."
