Chapter 31 Single Room

Xu Xiangyang drove carefully throughout the journey, without the impatience typical of a young, inexperienced driver.

After all, he was a veteran driver in his previous life, and driving was a piece of cake for him. He would always help out when the company was short-handed for deliveries.

At that time, he didn't have much ability, so he could only try his best to build good relationships with people.

That's why no one in the company had a bad word to say about him. Even the boss thought highly of him, and he was always the one to accompany him on long trips or deliver important items.

Zhang Dezhi, standing to the side, was very satisfied. The handlebars were excellent, just like a seasoned driver's.

Xu Xiangyang: I'm not only an experienced driver, but also a highway driver.

The journey was uneventful, and it was already afternoon when they returned to the grain depot.

The two of them ate some biscuits in the car at noon. Although they were quite good, they weren't a proper meal.

Xu Xiangyang felt a burning sensation in his stomach because of the biscuits he ate for lunch.

"Xiao Xu, your work for today is finished. You can go to the break room now." Zhang Dezhi finished unloading the goods and was about to park the car when he told him to go back first.

Xu Xiangyang nodded in agreement and then went back first.

On the way, he saw Zhang Xiao walking towards him from a distance, but he didn't give her a second glance.

Zhang Xiao was a little confused. Wasn't this person fired? Why was he still here?

He didn't go over to ask or say hello.

Someone like Xu Xiangyang isn't someone I'd associate with. So what if he can drive? What's so great about that? He's not a permanent employee.

Xu Xiangyang returned to the lounge and, taking advantage of the fact that no one was there, quickly ate a steamed bun to tide him over.

The biscuits he ate for lunch made his stomach feel so uncomfortable; he'd rather have gone hungry.

After eating a steamed bun, my stomach felt a little better, but I was still uncomfortable.

It's probably because I haven't eaten this kind of food in a long time, and I'm often hungry.

Although he had eaten well for a month, the original owner's health was still poor.

My stomach will feel uncomfortable if I don't eat staple foods.

Xu Xiangyang ate lunch at the canteen in the afternoon before going home. Although it wasn't anything fancy, he was a regular employee and his food rations were already in the canteen, so it would be a waste not to eat.

We need to find a place to rent quickly, otherwise the food prepared in the cafeteria is such a waste. We might as well save it and take it back to the couple in the countryside to help them out.

The next morning, Xu Xiangyang came to work as usual, and as soon as he arrived at the gate, he saw Yan Laosan standing there.

Upon seeing who it was, he quickly ran over, "Hey, Brother Xiangyang, you just got here?"

Xu Xiangyang smiled and nodded, "Third Brother, you've come so early. Why aren't you in the rest room? It's so cold outside."

Although the Chinese New Year is over, the weather in Northeast China is no joke. You still can't take off your cotton-padded coat until April.

It won't be truly warm until May Day.

Yan Laosan didn't answer, but instead said, "Brother, I've found out about the house for you. It's a 20-square-meter single room, but there are several households living in the same courtyard."

This is the general situation now. Of course, there are also people who are unwilling to rent out their houses. After all, it's never comfortable to let others live in your own house.

Xu Xiangyang was surprised that things were handled so quickly. He hurriedly asked, "Where is it? Is it far from my workplace?"

He doesn't care about the large number of residents; once the door is closed, who knows what he's doing inside?

Block all the windows, and no one will care if you run naked inside.

Moreover, he is a grown man now and has no worries about safety. At 178 cm tall, he is not short in this day and age, and he is a strong and robust young man. Most people would not dare to look him in the eye.

Seeing that he didn't care, Yan Laosan also felt that it was no big deal. She wasn't a little girl, so why was she afraid of a lot of people?

He replied, "It's not far, it's nearby, about a five-minute walk."

It's not far at all; it's only a five-minute walk from here, so you could say it's very close.

Xu Xiangyang was quite satisfied with this, but he didn't know about any other issues. It didn't matter if the house was a little run-down; a quick clean would fix it.

The two agreed to go see it after get off work, and then they parted ways.

With the housing issue resolved, Xu Xiangyang was overjoyed; he could finally settle down in the city.

I'll work hard in the future and try to buy a small courtyard house so I can bring the couple from the countryside to live with me.

Although the couple were cunning, lazy, greedy, and slippery, they were genuinely good to him.

Having parents is a rare privilege, and he doesn't mind supporting them.

Seeing that he was happy all day, Qian Wenqing asked, "Brother Xu, what's the good news? Why are you so happy?"

Xu Xiangyang didn't hide anything, and smiled as he replied, "I've rented a place, so my housing problem is solved. But I haven't seen it yet. Once I'm settled, I'll invite you to my home."

Xu Xiangyang was still very kind and gentle to the person who had helped him.

The job was recommended by him; he's a rare kind person.

Qian Wenqing scratched his head sheepishly, saying that inviting him as a guest was also a way of thanking him.

He mentioned it casually at the time, mainly because Xu Xiangyang taught him a lot.

Although the two of them only made one trip, that one trip taught them more than they would have learned in a month of working with Master Zhang.

Aside from driving, Master Zhang rarely taught him anything. Even Master Chen was the same; he rarely taught him, he just showed him how.

The master leads you through the door, but the practice is up to you. That's the saying. How can you practice if you don't know anything?

"No need, Brother Xu. As long as you're doing well, that's enough," he politely declined.

Xu Xiangyang was displeased and frowned, saying, "That won't do, Xiao Qing. Are you looking down on me because you don't want to go?"

After hearing this, how could Qian Wenqing possibly refuse?

The two agreed that Xu Xiangyang would go to find Yan Laosan after work.

The rental place wasn't far from here, and the two of them walked and talked for a short while before arriving.

The gate to the courtyard was open, and there were several people inside talking and chatting, their hands busy washing vegetables and cooking.

Seeing people approaching, an elderly woman put down what she was carrying and asked, "Who are you looking for?"

Yan Laosan identified himself and then said with a smile, "I have the key. Take a look at the house and then leave."

Upon hearing that it was for rent, no one else asked any further questions.

These are all tenants, so they have no right to ask too many questions.

When people rent houses here, they have to ask strangers if they come in. Even though everyone lives their own life behind closed doors, who knows if they are bad people?

Seeing that Yan Laosan had actually used the key to open the door in the corner, the others looked away and went about their business.

Xu Xiangyang looked at the dark room and reached out to feel the wall for a light cord.

Yan Laosan turned on the light, and in the dim light, the entire room was clearly visible.

The 20-square-meter single room was just an empty room, with nothing inside, dust everywhere, and cobwebs.

The glass was also very dirty, making it impossible to see what was happening outside.
