Chapter 43 It really is you!

Xu Xiangyang thought she was right when he heard her say that.

No matter the circumstances, Wang Xiumin will never go hungry.

"Okay, if anything happens at home, just have someone send me a note. Don't you have my address?" He left his address when he went home.

He was just afraid that something might happen between the couple without him knowing.

Communication was poor back then, so having a mobile phone would have been so convenient.

Wang Xiumin looked at her son, who had changed so much, and felt very melancholy.

She didn't know exactly what had changed, but she knew the person had changed. This change was good; it put her mind at ease.

I was worried that Xu Xiangyang wouldn't be able to do hard labor, but now he's learning to drive and becoming a driver. He's getting more and more capable.

"Dog Egg, as long as you're doing well out there, that's more important than anything else. Now you don't need to worry about things at home. A man should go out and make his way in the world. Go ahead and do your best!" She felt very relieved after saying this.

Isn't the hope that your son will grow up to be successful?

Looking at her expression, Xu Xiangyang felt a pang of emotion. "I'll make something of myself."

When you go out to work and do well, isn't it all so that when you go home, people will look up to you?

If things don't go well for you, coming back will only make you a laughing stock.

Xu Xiangyang didn't care, but the couple's fluctuating moods were too much for them to handle.

Wang Xiumin slept soundly through the night, but couldn't fall asleep.

If she used to live carefree, now she's come to her senses.

Now that her son is successful, she and Xu Guangtian have separated at home, and their lives are getting better and better.

Now that Xu Xiangyang has become a worker in the city, he will definitely settle down there in the future.

They absolutely cannot hold the child back. Now that the child is pregnant, they won't say anything about holding the child back, but they will definitely ask Xu Xiangyang for help in the future.

After thinking about all this, she couldn't fall asleep.

The next morning, Wang Xiumin didn't get up to cook either, mainly because she hadn't slept well.

Xu Xiangyang pulled Xu Guangtian back from waking him up and whispered, "Don't wake her. I have a bag of biscuits here. Let's have some to tide us over."

He had to hurry back to the city before dawn, as he had to go to work soon.

Xu Guangtian also had to go to work at the brigade headquarters, so he could only eat biscuits.

"Okay, let your mother sleep." Xu Guangtian took the biscuits and ate them with some cold boiled water.

Xu Xiangyang looked at the cooled boiled water and remembered that his family didn't have a thermos.

Spring is almost here, but we'll still need it eventually.

However, I didn't find a thermos while exploring the space recently, so it seems I'll have to keep looking for it, or I'll just buy one if all else fails.

He doesn't lack money now, but he lacks tickets. He doesn't know if thermos tickets are needed.

After eating the cookies, Xu Xiangyang placed the remaining half-pack next to Wang Xiumin's pillow, then said goodbye to Xu Guangtian and left through the snow.

It's only 5:30 in the morning, and it's still dark.

The whole village was pitch black, and no one got up.

Even if they got up, no one lit a lamp.

There are electrical wires here, but only the brigade headquarters has them; the other households use candles or kerosene lamps.

Electricity costs more than these things. Nowadays, people only care about filling their stomachs and don't have high demands for other material things.

After leaving the brigade, Xu Xiangyang took out his bicycle and quickly rode towards the city.

Although it's not light yet, it's not that dark either, so there's no need to worry about not being able to see.

When he was almost in the city, he put his bicycle back into his storage space and then hurried to his workplace.

By this time, it was already bright outside, and there were more pedestrians on the road, all on their way to work.

Upon arriving at work, Xu Xiangyang quickly moved closer to the stove to warm up. It was still too cold that day; the roads had already melted at the end of March, making this the coldest time of year.

Snow melts at noon and freezes in the morning and evening.

"Brother Xu is here." Qian Wenqing greeted him. He was the first to arrive and was in charge of cleaning and lighting the stove.

He and Xu Xiangyang did all the work, taking turns each day.

"Hmm, it's so cold today." Xu Xiangyang sat by the stove to warm himself, and looked at the clock. It was already 7:30.

I ate some biscuits this morning, but they've already been digested. Now I just want something warm to eat.

"I'm going to the cafeteria; I didn't eat breakfast this morning." He paused for a moment, then said goodbye and went out.

Qian Wenqing didn't think much of it. At this time, some people didn't eat at home and went to the cafeteria instead.

If the food rations aren't in the canteen, then you have to pay extra for meals.

The cafeteria's breakfast consisted of corn porridge, pickled vegetables, steamed buns made from a mixture of wheat and water, and also steamed dumplings.

Xu Xiangyang wanted to eat wontons, but they weren't available, so he could only get a bowl of porridge and two steamed buns filled with wood ear mushrooms, tofu, and vermicelli.

These buns taste just as good as the meat-filled ones, like a high-end version of a vegetarian restaurant.

Tofu is a great food at this time of year, and since there are people in the cafeteria who know how to make it, we can eat tofu every few days.

He was eating when he heard someone call his name.

"Xu Xiangyang?" a male voice tentatively asked.

Xu Xiangyang turned around and saw a boy of about twenty years old standing behind him.

This person looks somewhat familiar, but I couldn't quite place him for a moment.

"Is it really you?" The man walked over in surprise and said, "I saw someone who looked a lot like you when I came in, but I didn't expect it to really be you."

He spoke as he sat down opposite Xu Xiangyang.

Xu Xiangyang then remembered who this person was. He was Liu Feng, the original owner's high school classmate and the son of the director of the grain bureau.

Don't be fooled by their good family background; they never show off at school.

He always greets everyone with a smile, and he never ignores people from poor families.

but……

From Xu Xiangyang's perspective, this person wasn't as easy to talk to as he seemed on the surface.

"Long time no see." He smiled and nodded, as if to say hello.

Liu Feng looked at what he was eating, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, but he said with a normal expression, "I heard you didn't get into university, how are you doing now?"

Seeing Xu Xiangyang eating here, I guess he's here to work.

However, he knew his family background; they were just from the countryside.

How can a rural person eat here?

Xu Xiangyang ignored his scrutinizing gaze and replied, "It's fine, I'm working here now. What about you?"

No doubt about it, they were already doing very well in their studies back then, so getting into university was a given.

Liu Feng sighed, "Sigh, don't even mention it. I did get into university, but my mom insists I come back to work. I was too arrogant back then, wanting to get into a good university, but I didn't get in."

He had filled out two college applications before, but was not accepted by either. Later, he received an admission notice from a teachers' college.

However, he didn't want to be a teacher at all, and later his family also felt that it would be okay for him to come back to work.

His family doesn't necessarily insist that he become a college student. They don't care whether he goes to school or not. It's just a teacher's college anyway, so it's not very interesting.
