Chapter 7 Old Xu's Scheme

Xu Xiangyang thought that his family should find something to earn money. He couldn't just stay home all day; he couldn't stand it anymore.

Moreover, with Xu's father working and Wang Xiumin only working sporadically, it was only a matter of time before the whole family starved to death.

He understood Wang Xiumin's thoughts. If the old lady didn't want to divide the family property, then if everyone ate and drank together, some people would eat more and some would eat less.

Just like the Xu family, with one member in college, isn't it just a case of secretly eating alone?

Actually, Xu Xiangyang didn't blame the old lady for being biased. Even five fingers are of different lengths, let alone three sons in the family.

The youngest family was the one they valued the least, but if they could separate, Xu Xiangyang felt that their family's future was still promising.

If they hadn't separated their households, he probably would have given all the money he earned to Xu Laoda's family.

What's the point of working for someone else? So Xu Xiangyang is now thinking about how to divide the family property.

"Mother, why don't you tell me why Grandma doesn't separate the family?" He walked on with his head down, then looked up at the person in front of him.

Wang Xiumin turned around in surprise, "Why are you asking about the division of the family property?"

The youngest son usually just eats and sleeps, and plays around. I've never seen him care about anything at home.

Most of the time, they just worry about whether there's good food at home.

"Just asking," Xu Xiangyang replied, scratching his head.

Wang Xiumin didn't think much of it and said, "Your grandma wants to control the family finances, and of course, she wants Xu Xiangmin to get married before the family separates."

You have no idea how much money Xu Xiangmin's wedding will cost. Besides, he's in school now. Everything costs money. Who can come up with so much money after the family splits up?

Your grandmother just wanted our large family to support one small family. Once Xu Xiangmin gets married, it will be time to divide the family property.

It has to be said that Wang Xiumin saw right through the old lady's little schemes.

She also wants to separate from the family; who wants to live a hard life?

Everyone says they're lazy, but who's willing to work hard and do manual labor to support someone else's family?

Anyway, she's unwilling. As long as the family doesn't separate, she'll stay the same.

Let her do the work; let's separate the households first.

Xu Xiangyang didn't expect that this old lady would be so biased.

Logically speaking, getting married is Xu Laoda's family's business, what does it have to do with their family?

He wasn't too keen on this either, so he said, "Mother, we should think about dividing this family."

"Heh, divide it?" Wang Xiumin sneered and said with a pursed lip, "That depends on the old lady's willingness, otherwise we'll just listen to her."

She mentioned separating the family property when she got married, but it's been over twenty years now, what's the point of separating the old duck now!

Neither of them spoke again. Wang Xiumin felt extremely annoyed whenever Xu Xiangyang mentioned the matter of dividing the family property.

So they stopped talking and hurried on their way, arriving at Wang Xiumin's parents' home in just over half an hour.

Old Wang's family owns two houses, and the snow in the yard was swept clean, showing that they are all efficient people.

"Mom, I'm back!" Wang Xiumin's voice arrived before she even entered the courtyard.

The two people were walking into the yard when the door was opened.

An old woman came out of the house, wearing a black vest with several patches on it.

Xu Xiangyang's clothes also had patches, so he didn't pay attention to them. But the old lady's smile when she saw them was genuine.

"So you finally decided to come back!" She glared at Wang Xiumin, then smiled at Xu Xiangyang behind her.

"Xiangyang is here! Come inside quickly, Grandma will make dumplings for you in a little while."

Emma!

Xu Xiangyang almost ran over and hugged the old lady, shouting, "My dear grandma!" He had been here for several days, and finally no one was calling him Gou Dan anymore!

Yes, he truly dreads this nickname he has!

Who wants to be called "Dog Egg" all the time?

"Hey!" he quickly replied, then followed him into the house with a scurry trot.

Wang Xiumin rolled her eyes. "You brat, you get all cocky when you hear about good food."

Xu Xiangyang didn't care when he heard this. He wondered if he cared about the dumpling. What he cared about was that no one called him Gou Dan anymore. At least no one would call him that anymore.

An old man was sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) inside the house; it must have been my maternal grandfather, Wang Zhongshan.

"Grandpa," he called out obediently.

Why was he so well-behaved? In the original owner's memories, he had always respected this grandfather.

Despite his usual carefree attitude, he always acts like a good kid in front of Wang Zhongshan.

Wang Zhongshan served as a soldier in his early years and participated in many battles. He eventually returned with a broken leg.

Such people deserve everyone's respect; they dedicate themselves to the country.

Wang Zhongshan also thought highly of his grandson. Even though he was usually serious, he smiled and nodded.

"Xiangyang, come visit Grandpa whenever you have free time. There's nothing good to eat, but you won't go hungry."

Because Wang Zhongshan and his wife only had this one daughter, they doted on their grandson very much.

She usually wouldn't eat the good food at home, waiting for Xu Xiangyang to come over so she could cook a nice meal.

Xu Xiangyang smiled and said, "Okay, as long as Grandpa doesn't find me annoying."

"You little rascal, you've learned to be so glib in just half a month." Wang Zhongshan was very happy that they came.

The room quickly became lively, filled with laughter and cheerful conversation.

Compared to staying at Old Xu's house, Xu Xiangyang felt more comfortable here. At least the old couple treated him kindly and weren't stubborn or unreasonable.

Wang Xiumin also shook off her laziness at Lao Xu's house and rolled up her sleeves to help her grandmother cook as soon as she got back.

Xu Xiangyang sat with his grandfather on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), chatting with him without needing to help.

Wang Zhongshan was a heavy smoker. He tapped the residue inside his pipe and said, "Xiangyang, you've been staying at home for over a year now. It's past the nineteenth of the lunar year, isn't it?"

Xu Xiangyang nodded. The original owner had indeed been unemployed for a long time and had become a street urchin, wandering around the streets every day without doing anything productive.

Seeing him nod, Wang Zhongshan asked, "Haven't you thought about going out to do anything?"

What to do?

Xu Xiangyang was stunned. He didn't know what his grandfather meant, since he had no choice but to go to work in the fields at this time.

Whether it's the commune or the provincial capital, jobs there all require urban household registration.

Besides, jobs are all filled in one spot at a time, and there's no one filling them.

"Grandpa, I also want to do something else, but as you know, I don't have any connections, and finding a job is a problem." He could only explain his current situation.

However, Xu Xiangyang felt that Wang Zhongshan should know this, so why would he ask such a question?

Seeing his expression, Wang Zhongshan smiled and said, "Grandpa has found you a way to get a temporary job. Do you want to do it?"

Xu Xiangyang looked completely understanding. No wonder he asked him that question; the relationship had already been established.
