Chapter 90: A Long Journey (shuhaige.net)

After selling everything, Xu Xiangyang took the remaining items back to Xu Guangtian and his wife.

After dealing with the people in the brigade, Liu Hai also went to Xu Xiangyang's house.

"Hirota, tidying up the yard?" He greeted the people in the yard as he entered.

Xu Guangtian only became more diligent after seeing his son return. "The brigade leader is here, come in and sit down."

Inside the room, Xu Xiangyang sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) and handed the things to Wang Xiumin. There weren't many things left, but it would be difficult to take them all away.

"Uncle Liu is here." Xu Xiangyang saw Liu Hai enter the house and then asked Wang Xiumin to make some food.

"Xiangyang, thank you so much for today. Bring back anything you have in the future, so our team can have some benefits too." Liu Hai said with a smile as he sat down on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

If Xu Xiangyang hadn't come today, I doubt we would have been able to buy so much stuff.

Everything was free, which saved a lot of trouble. He did most of the buying himself, though; he bought quite a lot of things.

My youngest daughter is getting married soon, so I'll need to give her a generous dowry.

At noon, Wang Xiumin made a stew with canned meat, and Xu Xiangyang brought out a bottle of wine. The three men drank some.

The aroma of meat and vegetables wafted through the air outside the Xu family's house. Standing in the yard, listening to the lively conversation next door, Old Xu felt a pang of unease.

Old Xu tapped his pipe and said to Zhang Xiufen beside him, "What are you doing? Go cook!"

It's already noon, and many families have started cooking.

Zhang Xiufen rolled her eyes. "We only have two meals a day. It's only noon now. What are we going to eat?"

Most families eat two meals a day: two meals when they're not working and three meals when they are working.

Old Xu didn't say anything after hearing this, and turned around and went back into the house.

The others, drawn by the enticing aroma, dared not linger, growing hungrier with each whiff.

Xu Xiangmin looked at the people outside from inside the house, then turned to Xu Guangshan and said, "Dad, why don't you talk to Grandma and ask her to give me some money to find me a job at the commune? After all, I graduated from high school."

Actually, he wanted to go to the city to work and see Xu Xiangyang, who was not as good as him in his studies but had such a good job.

The brigade leader even came to visit me when I went home. Who can compare?

Of all the people in the brigade right now, Xu Xiangyang is the most enviable; he gets praised wherever he goes.

The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. Xu Xiangmin looked at Xu Guangshan, waiting for his answer.

Xu Guangshan also wanted his son to be successful, so that he could be like Xu Guangtian and brag about it.

But when he heard about taking money, he couldn't help but frown. "Son, I want to say that too. But your grandma might not agree, especially since Gou Dan came back these past two days and made her very angry."

Xu Xiangmin didn't want to stay there any longer, and said firmly, "I don't care, you do what you want. I've been to university for two years now. If it weren't for this movement, I would have graduated and become a cadre in less than two years."

Nobody wanted to see things like this, but now that we've been caught up in it, there's nothing we can do.

Xu Guangshan could only nod in agreement and prepare to ask and give it a try.

No matter what, Xu Xiangmin is his son, and he will benefit from whatever his son does well.

Around 1 p.m., Liu Hai, having had a good time, left Old Xu's house with a big smile.

Xu Guangtian wasn't drunk either. The two of them sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) chatting, while Wang Xiumin tidied up the table.

"Son, you've really made your dad proud this time!" He chuckled and clicked his tongue, saying, "The brigade leader asked your mother and me to look after the warehouse. We just need to tidy it up a bit. It's a good job, ten work points a day, and it's not tiring at all."

Xu Guangtian was very satisfied with this job, and it was respectable, all thanks to his son.

Seeing that he was happy, Xu Xiangyang said, "If you think it's good, then that's fine. Don't skimp on your meals during this time. My mother is pregnant and needs to get more nutrition."

Counting the days, Wang Xiumin is almost four months pregnant. Although her pregnancy isn't very noticeable yet, it's a time when she needs plenty of nutrition.

Even if Xu Xiangyang didn't say anything, Xu Guangtian would still keep it in mind. How could he not care about his own wife?

"Don't worry, your mother hasn't been going to work much lately, she's just focusing on taking care of her health. And now that she's back at work, it's much easier, nothing much!" He was especially happy, because since Xu Xiangyang went to work, their lives had been getting better and better!

Xu Xiangyang smiled but didn't say anything. They were both adults, and he didn't care. As long as the couple was doing well, that was better than anything else.

He left in the afternoon. Although he was a little anxious, he had no choice but to be.

He has to go on a long trip; he can't just wander around here forever.

Returning to the city under the cover of night, Xu Xiangyang did not go home, but instead headed in the other direction.

Two days later.

The mountain town wasn't lively at night, but the port was still brightly lit.

The workers on the shore were constantly busy, and you could feel how hard their lives were.

Taking advantage of the darkness, Xu Xiangyang entered through another door and then climbed into a boat.

He randomly opened a door, figuring he could only try his luck; inside was a storage room, only about two square meters.

He then entered the space, leaving no trace of his existence whatsoever...

More than half an hour later, a large number of people began to arrive and enter the ship, where a group of people were checking and making preparations.

"Let's set sail!" At the command, the people outside began packing their belongings, preparing to depart.

No one noticed that there was already an extra person on the boat.

Xu Xiangyang sat in the chair looking at the screen in front of him, which displayed the scene outside the space.

This feature has been around for a long time, but he never used it because he didn't need it.

This time it's very convenient, it looks like watching surveillance footage, and you can change positions at will, and it's clearer than a surveillance camera.

Xu Xiangyang ate some food, then sat there with a can of beer, listening to the sounds of people walking and boats sailing outside.

He didn't know how many days the trip would take, but he didn't keep an eye on it.

When it's time to go to bed at night, I go to sleep. When I have nothing to do, I go out and check on the situation outside.

Whenever no one came to the storage room, he would go out to listen in and find out what was going on.

However, Xu Xiangyang did not expect that the original owner's body would get seasick. He could not stand sitting outside for more than half an hour and had to enter the space.

In his past life, he never got seasick, and he used to think his colleagues were being pretentious about taking boats.

Now it's his turn, and this is a really unpleasant feeling. He can't laugh at others so easily anymore, and he shouldn't say anything pretentious about them.

That afternoon, Xu Xiangyang clearly felt that the boat had stopped rocking. He appeared in the storage room and, sure enough, the boat had stopped.

He pressed his ear against the door and listened; he could hear many people talking outside.

You could tell they had already disembarked and were preparing to unload their cargo.

Xu Xiangyang didn't rush to leave, after all, he had sneaked onto the ship.

If he gets caught, he will not only be beaten, but he may also be deported.

Wouldn't that mean losing your job? And it could easily lead to even bigger problems.
