Chapter 3: Educated Youth Going to the Countryside

July 1969, Shanqiao Village.

Half a month later, everyone in the village knew that this time there would be a lot of educated youth going to the countryside, more than twice as many as before.

Early in the morning, Shanqiao Village Chief Gu Jianqiang and Village Party Secretary Gu Ren asked the men to quickly harness the ox carts and go to the town to pick up the educated youth. There were several ox carts in total, and the village chief's wife also began to clean up the educated youth residence with the old educated youth.

Shanqiao Village was formerly called Gujia Village. Most of the people there were surnamed Gu. To put it bluntly, it was a village of a large clan, so it was called Gujia Village. Later, due to the war, some people fled here, so there were more than a dozen families with other surnames in the village. Later, because there were mountains and bridges, it was changed to Shanqiao Village.

The layout of the village is pretty good, and the villagers all have some skills. After all, if they don't have some skills, they can't survive in this remote mountain. So overall, the villagers are self-sufficient.

There were several large green trucks, each of which was packed with people. The educated youth were all brought from the county train station.

The educated youth who got off the truck had already been assigned to villages around the neighboring town. A total of 500 educated youth came from different places and got off the truck one by one.

"We're finally here. I'm about to vomit." Zhu Xiaoyu was a little impatient and tired. After all, the journey was too long for her to bear.

"I'm afraid not yet. You still have to take a ox cart. Don't you see the neatly lined up ox carts over there?" The female educated youth who was traveling with her and from the same city had already seen the ox carts in front and reminded her.

"Do we have to take a car or a bullock cart? This is too far." Zhu Xiaoyu didn't want to take the car anymore. She was about to vomit, but there was nothing she could do.

There is no way around it, this place is really located in the south.

"It's really a remote place."

"Okay, stop talking and get in the car quickly." Others had the same experience, but they hadn't arrived yet, so they could only remind them.

There were already many ox carts parked below, and standing next to the carts were the village heads and party secretaries of each village. In order to return to the village to do farm work faster, they specially made a sign and placed it next to the ox carts of their own village. Most of the people on the carts were literate, and then they had men shouting next to them, so that they could get back faster.

"Comrades from Baoguan Village, hurry up and get on the bus."

"What's going on? They are all educated youth going to the countryside. The quotas have been allocated long ago. Why are they still dawdling?" The village chief of Jiaofu Village couldn't help but say as he looked at the group of educated youth who were still dawdling after getting on the ox cart.

"Brother Song, you know they are just a bunch of ignorant students who just went to the countryside."

"They're all from the city, and most of them are delicate and tender. What's going on? How are they supposed to work?"

"Yes, I'm still thinking about how to place them. After all, not all of them can do farm work, and they may be spoiled at home. Who knows what kind of trouble they will cause in the future." Song Xiu was still thinking about how to place the newly arrived educated youth.

"Oh, now, I don't have to go to school anymore."

"Brother Gu, you are here too?"

"Every village has been assigned thirty or forty educated youth. The village educated youth center may not have a place to live, so they may have to live in the homes of villagers." Gu Jianqiang scratched his head and looked at the educated youth next to him.

“Who knows what will happen if you live in a village?”

"It's not just housing, but also food, drink, defecation and urination. Are they all a problem?"

"We didn't expect that there would be so many people going to the countryside this time. When we first received the news, we thought there would be only a dozen or twenty people. Suddenly so many of them came. Who wouldn't be confused?" said the person in charge with a sigh.

"yes."

The person in charge then said, "There are quite a lot of educated youth going to the countryside this time, so please pay more attention!"

"Let's talk later, my friends. Our village is quite far away, so I'm going to take the educated youth back to the village first."

"Okay, then we'll go too."

The village heads led the educated youth under their village's name back to their village. Shanqiao Village was a bit far from the town, so the educated youth rode in a ox cart for a full four hours. Many of them vomited on the way, perhaps because they had been on the cart for too long.

"It's really located in the middle of nowhere, there's not even a proper road..." complained a girl with twin ponytails.

The village chief and the village party secretary asked the men to drive the ox carts slowly so that the educated youth would not be unable to bear it. After all, the road was indeed bumpy.

The road was dotted with the shadows of ox carts.

When the educated youth came into the village, the village women's director, who was also the village chief's wife, had already led the women to clean the place where the educated youth lived.

Gu Ranzhou didn't care about the educated youth going to the countryside. If he had that much free time, he might as well think about how to live in the future. He was planning to renovate the house, but it was impossible to make major changes under the current circumstances. It was even more impossible to tear it down and rebuild it. He could only make some minor renovations.

But if you don't ask him for something, he will come to you. Gu Ranzhou was still studying the terrain when Gu Jianqiang, accompanied by a man carrying a canvas bag, walked towards Gu Ranzhou's home.

Gu Ranzhou's home is at the very edge of the village, close to the mountain. There are not many houses around, and even if there are, they are far away.

Gu Jianqiang saw Gu Ranzhou from a distance and wondered what he was doing?

"Xiao Zhou, are you busy?"

"Brother Jianqiang, what's the matter?" Gu Ranzhou heard the voice, turned around and saw that it was Gu Jianqiang, and asked with a faint smile.

Lu Zhenchuan, who was standing by, was a little surprised when he heard Gu Ranzhou's address. After all, it was a bit too much for a young man who looked to be in his 20s to call a man in his 40s or 50s "brother".
