Chapter 32 Autumn Harvest (Part 1)

Shanqiao Village, southeastern border of Longguo.

Time flies and it is already mid-October.

Early in the morning, Gu Ranzhou just got up from the bed and was about to get out of bed when he was suddenly hugged by a pair of strong arms around the waist and pulled into Lu Zhenchuan's arms.

Gu Ranzhou was suddenly startled and asked, "What are you doing?"

Lu Zhenchuan's voice was a little hoarse as he said, "Hold me for a while. Wife, you got up too early today. I was too noisy last night."

Gu Ranzhou sighed and said, "You forgot that today is the autumn harvest. I have to hurry up and cook. After you finish eating, hurry to the village entrance to gather."

Lu Zhenchuan was stunned for a moment before he remembered: "Autumn harvest? Yes, it's autumn harvest time."

Lu Zhenchuan said a little aggrievedly, "Wife, go and do your work. Don't bother with me."

Gu Ranzhou looked at this guy and felt as if he had done something wrong to him. Although he didn't want to pay attention to him, he still kissed him.

Who would have thought that Lu Zhenchuan would dare to go so far as to kiss her directly, a French kiss.

Lu Zhenchuan was reluctant to let go of Gu Ranzhou. Finally, seeing that time was running out, Gu Ranzhou quickly pushed him away.

Gu Ranzhou whispered something into Lu Zhenchuan's ear.

Lu Zhenchuan's eyes brightened, and he lay down obediently, closing his eyes for a while.

Gu Ranzhou hurried to make breakfast. After washing up at the faucet, Gu Ranzhou took out a glass of spiritual spring water and drank it.

In the kitchen, breakfast does not need to be complicated. Gu Ranzhou first lights the fire, then washes the rice, washes the lean meat and cuts it into minced meat for later use. He puts the pot on the stove and puts the washed rice into suitable water. After the porridge is cooked, Gu Ranzhou puts the minced meat into the porridge, then adds some salt and stirs it evenly. Wait until the porridge is cooked into a thick consistency.

Gu Ranzhou looked at the time. It was only 5:40, which was not bad. Although it was not six o'clock yet, it was almost there. After putting the cooked porridge in, he put the eggs and sweet potatoes into a new pot and added some water before putting it on the fire.

Gu Ranzhou is used to adding a boiled egg to breakfast for his family every morning. Not to mention that there are too many eggs in the space, but mainly because eggs contain rich and diverse vitamins, amino acids, and carbohydrates, which can replenish energy.

Gu Ranzhou also knew that today was the autumn harvest, and Lu Zhenchuan might have a lot of work to do. After he was done, he would have to cook a pot of sugar water to replenish his energy, preferably the kind that could be chilled.

Gu Ranzhou sat on the stool and looked at the fire, thinking of the eggs in the space.

Gu Ranzhou saw that the fire was about to go out, and the eggs and sweet potatoes in the pot were cooked. He hurriedly picked up the pot, put it on the rack, and then put out the fire.

Gu Ranzhou came out of the kitchen and took the pot outside to where the family often ate.

With a creak, the door opened and Lu Zhenchuan walked out of the room.

Gu Ranzhou looked up and said to Lu Zhenchuan, "You're awake! Hurry up and brush your teeth and wash your face. Come over for dinner."

Lu Zhenchuan: "Okay."

Suddenly, the door of another room was opened and Lin Feng walked out of that room.

Lin Feng saw Gu Ranzhou busy for a while while his brother was washing up: "Brother Gu, good morning!"

Gu Ranzhou nodded, but his hands did not slow down at all: "Well, what, are you really planning to go?" Gu Ranzhou set the table with the dishes.

Lin Feng nodded and went to the faucet to wash up: "Well, staying at home is never the same."

Lu Zhenchuan said to Gu Ranzhou, "Wife, don't go."

Gu Ranzhou said, "Well, I hadn't planned to go there originally. Didn't I say before that I would work on the land in the yard? Now I'm planning to open it today. I've already finished it and left it there. It's time to open it now since it's been lying idle."

The two of them walked to the table one after another and sat down. Gu Ranzhou served them a large bowl of porridge.

Lu Zhenchuan held the bowl and took a sip of porridge. Gu Ranzhou peeled two boiled eggs for Lu Zhenchuan.

Looking at the two people showing off their affection, Lin Feng sighed inwardly, "Why is he a single dog? Single dogs have no human rights!"

Gu Ranzhou said to Lin Feng, "Be more serious when you work. First impression is very important. Don't gossip while you work."

Lin Feng also understood why Gu Ranzhou reminded him like this: "I know, thank you Brother Gu!"

After breakfast, Lu Zhenchuan took Lin Feng to gather at the village entrance. Gu Ranzhou knew that it was too early and it was impossible to wake the children up for dinner. He thought it would be better to let them sleep until they woke up naturally. He turned to the kitchen, took out the prepared basket and walked towards the cowshed.

Village chief Gu Jianqiang and village party secretary Gu Ren rushed to the village entrance after breakfast early in the morning. Today was the day of autumn harvest in the village. The villagers and the old educated youth were very punctual, but the new educated youth were a bit slow. After all, they had not been doing farm work for many days before they had to rest, and the rest was only one or two months. Naturally, they could not compare with the villagers who did farm work all year round and the old educated youth who had been here for several years.

They didn't go in groups, but gathered everyone together and went in groups.

Because different crops need to be harvested, one scorer is definitely not enough. Gu Jianqiang assigned 5 scorers to be responsible for different areas, so as to ensure the efficiency of the autumn harvest.

When working, the scorers bring pen and paper according to the places assigned in advance.

This time, Gu Jianqiang and Gu Ren led the members of their respective teams to the fields.

The crops that can be harvested in the south in October are nothing more than: rice, peanuts, sugarcane, sweet potatoes, corn, and potatoes.

Because the soil in the south is fertile, growing rice is no problem.

It is early October and the weather is still very hot. Precisely because of the hot weather, we have to speed up the sugarcane harvesting and cut as much as possible. Now that there are many people, it is best to finish cutting the sugarcane planted in the village within one day.

The place where Gu Jianqiang and Gu Ren led the team was about one kilometer away from the east end of the village. There was a field there where sugarcane was planted. The harvest had been completed. It was the time for harvesting sugarcane. The ridges of the fields were full of people working. Each of them held a sickle in his hand and kept waving it on the ridges, pulling the sugarcane out of the soil, then tying it into a bundle, carrying it on his shoulders, and carrying it back to the roadside. The main labor tools now are ox carts, so it is normal for the village to have one or two ox carts.

When Gu Jianqiang and Gu Ren led the team to the scene, they saw several scorekeepers on the ridge of the field recording the amount of harvested sugarcane.

Cowshed.

The five old men in the cowshed were almost awake and washing up. Before Gu Ranzhou came to the cowshed for the first time, he watched from afar. Later, after they moved in, Lu Zhenchuan and Lin Feng took turns or came together to deliver meals. After all, they were not busy and had a lot of free time at that time. Now they all went to do farm work, so naturally they had to come and cook for themselves.

The cowshed doesn't have a door. At most, it can shelter from wind and rain, that's all.
