Xu Jianguo walked into the space portal. After a flash of white light, he appeared in the grove of trees in the park.
After selecting the location of the Rongcheng base in his mind, Xu Jianguo took out his bicycle, walked out of the woods, and headed towards a large building complex forty kilometers away.
At around 1:00 p.m., Xu Jianguo arrived at a military base in the northern part of Chengdu. After finding a deserted place to store his bicycle, he walked towards the base gate.
Arriving at the gate of the base, Xu Jianguo was stopped by two young sentries. One of them saluted and said, "Comrade Commander, please show me your ID!"
After Xu Jianguo stood at attention and returned the greeting, he pulled out his officer ID and letter of introduction from his jacket pocket, handed them to the sentry, and said, "I'm out on a mission and need to use your phone number to contact my superiors if I need anything."
Xu Jianguo did not say that he was asking for leave, because when he left the Binhai Base, the letter of introduction issued by Ma Guoliang stated that he was on a mission, but the letter did not state what specific mission he was carrying out.
After the sentry took his officer ID and letter of introduction, he said, "Okay, please wait a moment. I need to report to my superiors."
"Okay, thank you!" said Xu Jianguo.
The sentry took the things and turned around and walked into the room behind him to call his superiors.
After a while, the sentry came out of the house, returned the officer's ID and letter of introduction to Xu Jianguo, and said, "Commander, please wait a moment. Someone will come to pick you up in a moment."
Xu Jianguo agreed, then took his things, packed them up again, and stood next to the sentry post waiting.
More than ten minutes later, two men in military uniforms hurriedly walked out of the military compound, and the sentry at the door immediately stood at attention and saluted.
After returning the gift, the two looked at Xu Jianguo who was standing beside them.
When Xu Jianguo saw that one of their military ranks was colonel and the other was lieutenant colonel, he quickly stood at attention and saluted.
After the two men saluted Xu Jianguo again, the colonel said, "Are you Xu Jianguo?"
"I'm Xu Jianguo!"
"Haha, I didn't expect you to come to our Rongcheng!"
Xu Jianguo did not reply, but looked at the colonel with some confusion.
"My name is An Zhengbang, and I'm the head of the logistics department of the Rongcheng base. This is my comrade-in-arms Li Meng, the commander of the guard battalion here. The commander of our base told us about you. He is in a meeting now, so he asked the two of us to come and pick you up first. Come on, let's go in!" An Zhengbang said.
After listening to this, Xu Jianguo smiled and nodded, then said, "Okay, I'm sorry to bother you!"

Xu Jianguo followed the two into the gate and walked towards the depths of the camp.
About twenty minutes later, the three of them arrived at the gate of a courtyard. An Zhengbang stopped and said to Xu Jianguo, "This is where our communications company is stationed. There's a dedicated line to other bases. You can call the head of your base from here."
"Okay, thank you!" said Xu Jianguo.
An Zhengbang waved his hand and walked in with Xu Jianguo. After leading him to a room, he pointed to the phone on the table and said, "You can make the call here. We will wait for you outside!"
After Xu Jianguo thanked them, the two left.
He sat at the table, picked up the phone on the table, said something to the female soldier on the receiver, and then waited patiently.
A moment later, the familiar voice of Ma Guoliang from the Binhai Base came through the receiver: "Hello, I'm Ma Guoliang!"
"Commander, I'm Xu Jianguo!"
"Who?" Ma Guoliang seemed not to hear clearly and asked in surprise.
"Chief, I'm Xu Jianguo!"
"Hahaha, kid, you finally decided to call me. Where are you now? How is Funiu?" Ma Guoliang's hearty laughter came from the receiver, making Xu Jianguo's head buzz.
"I am now at the Chengdu base. Funiu is still the same and has not woken up yet, but her condition has stabilized." Xu Jianguo said.
"It's good that the condition has stabilized. Don't worry too much. There will always be a way! Army, you just told me that you were in Chengdu?" Ma Guoliang said.
"Yes, I'm at the Rongcheng base now!"
"Okay, okay, you kid, you are really my lucky star!"
Xu Jianguo was a little confused and asked, "Commander, what do you mean?"
"You may be required to carry out a mission in Bashu. I will call the commander of the Rongcheng base later and he will tell you the details!" Ma Guoliang said.
"Is the mission urgent?" Xu Jianguo asked.

Xu Jianguo then called Wu Dajiang at the Black Mountain Base, but was scolded by this bad-tempered old man right away.
"Chief, why are you scolding me?" Xu Jianguo asked in confusion.
"Why do you call me first? Why did you call that long-faced guy first? Have you forgotten who recruited you into the army?" Wu Dajiang said angrily.
Xu Jianguo was so embarrassed when he heard this that he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He said, "Commander, I was wrong. Next time, I'll call you first, okay?"
"That's better. Where are you? Is that girl Funiu feeling better?" Wu Dajiang asked.
"Funiu's condition is stable, but she hasn't woken up yet. I'm still trying to figure out a solution. I'm currently in Chengdu!"
When Wu Dajiang heard that Xu Jianguo was in Chengdu, his voice suddenly became serious and he asked, "Did the long-faced man tell you?"

"Comrade Jianguo, are you done with your call?" An Zhengbang asked.
"Well, the fight is over. I want to see Commander Yang. I have something to report!" Xu Jianguo said.
"The commander has already made arrangements. He said that after you finish your call, we will take you to see him." An Zhengbang said.
The three of them left the communications company and walked towards a three-story building in the distance.
