Chapter 64 Xinhua Bookstore

Fu'an County was about 170 miles away from the administrative office. Due to the extremely bad road conditions, the two men took more than an hour to arrive.

On the way, Xu Jianguo used his mind to take care of the crops in the space and added some feed to the piglets, chickens, ducks and geese.

Tong Fei had been to the government office before, so he easily found a guesthouse closest to the Xinhua Bookstore. The two of them took out their letters of introduction and work permits and booked a double room.

After resting for a while, Tong Fei took Xu Jianguo to Xinhua Bookstore.

Xu Jianguo stood in front of several bungalows, looking at the familiar sign, feeling a little dazed.

"Jianguo, what's wrong with you?" Tong Fei asked.

"Ah? It's okay, let's go!" Xu Jianguo recovered and spoke.

The two pushed open the door and walked in. The bookstore was not large and the layout was simple. The unique scent of ink from books filled the air.

For people who love reading, this smell has an irresistible temptation, just like a hungry person smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread, which drives people crazy.

There was a middle-aged man sitting in front of the bookstore counter reading a book. Apart from him, there was no one else.

Seeing Xu Jianguo and Tong Fei come in, the man put down the book in his hand and asked, "Hello, young comrade, what book do you want to buy?"

"Hello, comrade, I'm looking for some books on goose language."

"Oh? You understand goose language? What is it about?" the man asked, his eyes lighting up.

"Well, I want to find a dictionary, mathematics, or a book on mechanical engineering!"

"I do have some books on this subject, but I'm not sure if they're what you need. Come with me."

The man led Xu Jianguo and Tong Fei to a corner of the bookstore, pointed at the bookshelves and a pile of books on the ground and said, "These are all foreign language books. I wonder if there's anything you need? You can take a look first. If you find it useful, you can buy it. Otherwise, you'll buy it and not use it, which would be a waste!"

"Okay, thank you!"

The man waved his hand, walked back to his seat and continued reading.

Xu Jianguo looked at Tong Fei behind him and said, "Master Tong, you don't have to stay here with me. Feel free to look around. I'll see if there's anything we need."

"Okay, take your time to look around, I'll go out for a walk!" Tong Fei said.

After Tong Fei left, Xu Jianguo started searching on the bookshelf. He found some books that he thought were useful, then took out a notebook and a pen from the space, and began to flip through the books according to the contents.

Soon it was noon, Xu Jianguo stood up from the ground and stretched.

He felt dizzy after flipping through books for the past two hours, and he also took some time to take care of the space farm.

At this time, the middle-aged man smiled and asked, "Little comrade, how is it, have you found it?"

Xu Jianguo shook his head and said with a wry smile, "Not yet! Do you know where I can find relevant books?"

"Don't worry, you haven't finished reading those books yet. Maybe you can find them soon."

"I can't just look and not buy. I've been looking here for two hours for nothing. I feel embarrassed."

"I didn't expect that you, a young comrade, are so conscious. But it doesn't matter. There's no one in this bookstore all day long. Having you here is just right to keep me company. Listening to the sound of you turning pages makes me feel more energetic when reading!" said the man with a smile.

"Uncle, thank you!" Xu Jianguo said with a smile.

"Why thank you or not? I just like people like you who love reading!"

Just then, the door of the bookstore was pushed open from the outside and Tong Fei walked in.

"Jianguo, how is it, did you find it?"

Xu Jianguo shook his head and said, "Not yet!"

"Don't worry, we'll find it eventually. Let's go eat first!"

"Alright! Uncle, come and have dinner with us!"

"You two go eat, I brought some food!"

"No, let's go together. You've made me read for nothing. I have to treat you to a meal, right? Bring your lunch box with you, and I'll treat it as an extra dish for you!" Xu Jianguo advised.

"Yes, brother, let's go together!" Tong Fei also spoke.

"Okay, I'll take advantage of you two for lunch today!" said the middle-aged man.

"Why should I take advantage of this? It's just a meal and a walk together!" said Xu Jianguo.

The middle-aged man locked the door and followed Xu Jianguo to a state-owned restaurant not far away. The three of them sat down and Xu Jianguo ran to order food.

Four dishes and one soup, no alcohol.

During the meal, several people introduced themselves to each other, and Xu Jianguo also learned the man's name, Yan Wenhua.

After leaving the hotel, Tong Fei went straight back to the guesthouse to sleep, while Xu Jianguo and Yan Wenhua returned to Xinhua Bookstore to continue reading.

Xu Jianguo stayed in the Xinhua Bookstore until the end of the day and flipped through five or six books, but still couldn't find the answer.

"Jianguo, what's wrong?" Yan Wenhua asked.

"Uncle Yan, I haven't found it yet. Do you know where I can find some related books?"

"Can you tell me what you are looking for?"

Xu Jianguo thought about it and showed his notebook to Yan Wenhua, and told him the origin of this thing. There were only the cursive abbreviations of goose characters, no specific values, and no design drawings, so there was no need to worry about leaks.

Yan Wenhua frowned as he looked at the goose pattern that looked like a ghostly scribble.

"Jianguo, I have a suggestion for you. There's a scrap recycling station not far to the east. They occasionally drop off some old books and notes there. You might find what you need there. When you get there, just tell the guard that I introduced you."
